Make smoothies with spinach in it. Spinach is high in calcium and you can’t even taste it.
You can add spinach to spaghetti sauce as well, chili, anything like that. They won’t even notice and it shrivels away to tiny pieces.
Yogurts and milk and almond butter into smoothies as well - all high calcium.

I slip spunach in my twins' smooties as well! You can also freeze it! Just like you did with your snacks, I like to keep smootie bags in the freezer to save on time. Portions out smoothie ingredients into single servings (I'll even freeze yogurt in ice cube trays before hand). Toss ingredients of your your choice in the bags, so all you do is add your liquid (milk, water, juice etc).

Seeds, almonds, and leafy greens for calcium! My son gets his calcium mostly from cheese I think lol but he will eat a yogurt. I mainly get mine from smoothies and spinach.

Great video. I liked the food recommendations along the way :) I had to resort to giving my daughter calcium gummy vitamins to get all her calcium in. She's substantially older than your boys, but still hates. milk. Also the gut health suggestions were timely for us. Great suggestions.

My youngest stopped drinking milk at 10months, and never really liked cow's milk, or any other milk even after 1. He got dairy from yogurt in smoothies (made with water not milk, so it's not too creamy for him). And before bed he would drink a yogurt pouch. He used to eat cheese. He's 2 now and asks for chocolate milk but only drinks it first thing in the morning. Other foods have calcium, and the other nutrients you find in milk too. His doctor wasn't worried when I brought it up so I relaxed about it. That's just my experience. Good luck.

Didn’t really have a resolution but more of a change of mindset. My mindset change is to see working out as a better “getaway” then endlessly scrolling on social media. And so far I’ve gotten progressively better! Last week I did 4 days of working out straight! So I’m hoping to keep the momentum!

It’s fine your kids don’t drink milk. It’s the protein and calcium that’s important. Can try yogurt, cottage cheese, add cheese to things, smoothies with yogurt or fortified alternative milk, oatmeal made with milk, creamed based soups(can blend to hide some green leafy veg in too), oranges, edamame, almonds, yogurt ranch dip. Hummus is wonderful. You are great mom!

My oldest son won't drink milk either, so I did some research and found that non non dairy calcium rich foods were- 🍊oranges, almonds, kale, spinach, figs, salmon, beans, and broccoli🥦 were a great start. I also got him using creamy salad dressing for dips. Just a few ideas. 🥰💕

I love that you're so caring about what your sons like and don't like, however, they're around a certain age where it's good to introduce them to healthier stuff, like veggies (chopped up real tiny so they don't notice) and actual meat if you're trying to get them to eat protein that's not just hot dogs and chicken nuggets. There are tons of delicious ways to cook those without being a strain on a busy mom like you and the sooner they pick up on that, the better it'll be for their health in the future.

I don't know if it's a resolution exactly but for this year I want to get in the habit of having habits. My husband retired at the end of the year and I will retire at the end of the school year. My mom is 95 with dementia so she's needing more and more help but I'm figuring this is a really good time to start thinking about the habits I want to carry into retirement to take care of me. After years of taking care of everyone else, I need to put myself on the top of the list. So I'm trying to make it to the gym twice a week, throw pottery twice a week and expect my husband to do more regularly as far as housework and his own laundry etc. So far so good. I feel stretched thin with my mom and work but putting myself on the list has helped a lot.

Ha. My husband and I went grocery shopping one time like 10 years ago at a regular grocery store and they had jack fruit. My husband is a very adventurous eater, so even though he didn’t know what it tasted like, he had to have it. We hauled this like 15 pound fruit around the store with us, then when we got to the register, they had no idea how to ring it up. I guess they had only gotten like 10 in the store, so they didn’t create a PLU for it, so we stood there for like 10 minutes trying to figure out how to buy it. They finally rang it up and it was over $60! 😂

At home, this is relatively easy because I live in an Eastern European country, but traveling west, mostly as a tourist (so you don’t buy anything in bulk), has been very difficult for me. A tip for storing mushrooms is in a brown paper bag in the fridge. You also should avoid storing fruit/veg in plastic bags when you put them in your fridge drawers, as they sweat and it causes them to go off much quicker. Another thing you may want to try is A2 milk for your sons, unsure if it is available where you are, as I am in Australia. The rest of our family drink rice milk, which we enjoy.

My adult daughter can't have dairy. She drinks Silk chocolate milk. There are three types. One is regular chocolate, 1 gram protein/serving. One type has 10 grams protein/serving. The "Ultra" has 20 grams/serving. She finds it at Walmart and Target, usually.

Ive never liked milk. Any kind. There are so many other foods high in calcium, and things like orange juice are usually fortified with calcium. Unless a blood test has shown a deficiency, they're probably good 😊

I was gonna say!! Milk is good for the calcium but it's not the only thing that provides that and there's tons of healthy foods that get the job done.

Ovaltine! My kids are obsessed. I have been giving them Ovaltine since they were one because they refused anything but breast milk. It’s basically a multivitamin you can drink.

Mai! Thanks so much for the Florajen idea- I’m willing to try for sure for my kiddo. I think it’s the same issues with dairy and def am going to buy some today (walgreens, some chain grocery stores and Amazon has them)- otherwise it’s off the allegist for like thousands in coinsurance dollars lol! Def going to start today and give it a couple months. How long did it take to see some clearing up of ezcema for your youngest?

I drink almond milk. I'm lactose intolerant. I used to drink soy milk, but my mom had breast cancer and her cancer was estrogen based so soy was out for me just as a preventative measure. My kids drink cows milk, but were having constipation issues so I switched to Fairlife. Its quite pricey, but their bellies are better.
P.S. Im obsessed with your sweater coat!!

There are plenty of calcium sources that aren't drinkable. Cheese, yogurt, beans, leafy greens (can be put in smoothies), chia seeds, nuts, edamame, seeds, figs. And of course there are supplements. They sell calcium powder that could be added to almost anything, Mac n cheese, smoothies etc. I'd say find a fruit smoothie recipe they love, let them participate in making it and choosing the fruits and then add some "magic powder" into the blender.

Since you guys drink tons of smoothies, buy a pack of baobab powder and add them into your smoothies. It has way way more calcium than milk (and milk has sugar, baobab doesn’t) plus baobab powder is naturally a bit sweet and soo good

  • @janiceestes9518
    @janiceestes9518 Před 2 lety

We have the same refrigerator. I had noticed that you had removed two of your shelves from your refrigerator. Is that because you need a taller space to store your drinks? It's only me and my husband so I store my fat free milk on the door. I know that is not the ideal space for it but it's usually gone in three days. You sure have plenty of food and drinks for your family.
