- Workaholic Thomas P. Johnson (Matthew Modine) has achieved professional success at the expense of his family life, having neglected his wife, Carol (Nancy Travis), and son, Brian (Max Pomeranc). After Johnson wrecks his car in a dangerous street race with co-worker Jeff Newman (Eric Stoltz), he finds himself watching his own funeral. Returning to Earth as a dog, Johnson finds his family and struggles to have a positive influence on their lives -- in spite of his canine form.

It indeed broke my heart. I watched it for the first time back in 2010 and I simply couldn't forget it as I lost my first puppy in 2008 as it got killed by a motorcycle, I always start to cry whenever I see some cute dog or puppy since then.
I don't have a strength to rewatch this movie. At all. I simply can't. It's heartbreaking.
I still bawl my eyes out when I watch it.

I remember asking my parents to buy me this movie when I was a kid. I was all happy, thinking it was going to be a funny cute doggy movie. Then I remember finishing the movie, crying.

SAME ❤no regrets
As a kid I couldn't comprehend movies in general but I could definitely feel some emotion about Fluke. Fast forward a few years later, I watch Fluke and again and I started to cry immediately.
All I remember about it is "dog reincarnated from a dude dying in a carcrash" I was six and all I remember about it was being traumatized at the idea of the man dying horribly in a car crash.
If a dog movie is going to make you cry, let it be this one.
I adore this movie.
When my childhood kitty reached the ripe age of 18 years old, her kidneys began failing her and I was only blessed 1 more day with her before having to say goodbye. So, I went to the local video shop and got a few "animal love" VHS movies. I took the next day off from work and we spent the day together, watching films, letting her eat her favorite foods, which were peach peels and vanilla ice cream, don't ask me why, cuddled and cried.
I never thought i could let her go. But then I started watching "Fluke" and... to have such a wonderful story at that time meant the world to me. It left me feeling that she would always be with me and you really have to see the movie to understand.

I remember this movie this made me tear up so much it has a touching story to it that's put together so well like hachi another dog movie that I also love I love cats they are my favorite but watching really sad dog movies makes me cry so much because so touching.

Fluke is of my FAVOURITE childhood movies! ADORABLE! It was sooo HEART-WARMING and TOUCHING! ❤ I also cried SO MUCH! 😢 A BEAUTIFUL story and one of the reasons I’ve ALWAYS wanted a GOLDEN retriever, and now I finally have one! When Fluke has the hat on, it was THE CUTEST and FUNNIEST moment! 😍..😆
I saw this with my sister. She was about 5-6 and I was about 12-13. We both liked it. It was one of the few times during our human trafficking survival that we got along and there was no violence and blood loss. Our traffickers weren't there. I picked out the movie. I'm glad.

I remember watching this movie on Netflix as a kid. Back when Netflix used to have the movie you are looking for. This movie is so nostalgic to me. Also very sad movie. If you like a dog's purpose, then this is for you.

Great movie, but horribly misleading trailer. Makes the movie look like Homeward Bound when in fact it's closer to a supernatural version of Hachiko.

It is misleading. I mean the trailer makes it like uplifting typical Cats & Dogs comedy movie, but actually it's heartbreaking dramatically sad movie.
I watched this movie back in 2010 and made me cry since always whenever I see any dog afterwards (especially puppies) for no reason. I watched it only back then, and I don't have enough strength to rewatch it. I can't.

This is a great movie from my childhood and I like the story and the dog is a decent character and I like the kid and I like what we wears when the dog comes the house I love the sweater, love the blue button up/button down shirt and I love the blue pants because that actually looks like an outfit that I would wear on great occasion and I think the shirt and pants would be great to wear to fancy restaurants and pretty much in the future the outfit would be optional to wear at fancy theme park themed restaurants on vacations.

This movie came out when I was 5 but I don’t recall ever hearing about it until a couple days ago. 🥲😩 How is that possible? I watched it on Tubi and I really enjoyed it. Sucha fun and heartwarming story. I didn’t want it to end. 🥹
