In this video, I talk about how The Backrooms have been ruined by the internet, and is not scary anymore. This is due to how the internet throws random monsters into the backrooms like huggy wuggy and freddy fazbear from fnaf, as well as different levels of the backrooms like the backrooms water level and the backrooms roblox slide level. However, Kane Pixels Backrooms Series is an exception and stands out as an original and effective story. Hopefully the Backrooms A24 Movie trailer will feature me, MewZe, as the SNEAKY and SCHEMING villain.

The Backrooms was kind of scary due to atmosphere but nowadays it is so dry because I could be like “Level 85854835584568, the public restroom level”
And to add "SpIcE," the rules are: "Do not use the closed toilet stalls. You do not want to know what's inside. Do not keep the lights off for too long. They [The rest is scratched out..]. And don't bother breaking the mirrors, 7 years bad luck. . . Unless you WANT to no-clip to a level that does god knows what."
Ngl a public restroom in general are scary so a back rooms of that would be horrific
@@Blind_Eye046 i feel like there should actually be a public restroom level and its entire premise is no monsters, no harm, no violence, just you and needing find a open restroom to take a shit after eating tacobell
Not to mention the random cookie cutter scp monster that runs after you on that level
@@Blind_Eye046 You forgot the "And if you dump in here, then 500000 smilers will spawn in and chase you!!!"
I think that a creature that is scared of YOU in the backrooms is a genuine good idea. Reminds me of another person that has gone insane to the point that they don't trust ANYONE but himself. Another good idea that leans more on the "psychological horror" aspect of the backrooms is an entity that looks like it's chasing you but was never really there in the first place. Like it appears around corners & you Swear that you saw it but once again, never really there.
Yeah, the whole "Everything you see in the backrooms is your brain playing tricks on you, trying to make up for the loneliness and silence" is honestly better than the "scary monster is actually something real"

Fitting for pokemon too, a bunch of scaredy cat ghost types sounds fun enough.
Horror isn’t always about scary monsters. The whole point about the back rooms was the atmosphere
The entities were also part of the atmosphere but the fandom ruined it
The entire idea of the entities is the problem. They're dumb. They literally turned the backrooms into FNAF.
@@robokill387 no, it turned into SCP

@stupid rat actually the entities existed even in the first post of the backrooms, but the entities that were created after we're just bad, the first ones were cool but the rest are basically random shits
I hated that they started adding monsters and levels, the simple premise of a never ending plane of existence where you might be alone with no way out is engaging on its own
The original post literally mentioned monsters
@@ErrorEditzIraq It implies creatures, you never get to see them or know how likely you are to encounter them. I just saw them as the one way for you to die, otherwise it’s aimless wandering for existence
The entire concept of the og backroom is flawed. You'll die of starvation before anything happens
I feel like we should only have three levels and the main 10 entities

For me, it is much scarier to think that there is absolutely nothing there with you at all and you're just completely alone in an area that is so huge, it would probably take decades to explore all of it, if that's even possible.
The feeling of existential nihilism
I prefer the idea of the backrooms, without levels, but instead an infinite crawling space with no transition between the different "places".
And, there is absolutely something, somewhere, in there, that would hurt you, or something, somewhere, in there, that wouldn't, but no way of knowing where, when, how, or if you would come across it.
This more or less happened with SCPs too. The constant need to explain everything, of having a lore, a whole bestiary of monsters, freaking spec ops, instead of leaving uncertainty, mystery. Even if Kane Pixel's content is really well made, I'll give it credit for that, I don't think backrooms need a monster, nor scientists exploring or studying it.
example: the SCP satellite that makes you gay
I agree with the general sentiment but isn't the entire point of the scp website to be a bestiary?? If it's not a list of various creatures, then what is the scp foundation??
@@numah1394
not everything is a creature you fucking plonker
I mean at least scp isn’t yt kids garbage yet; though I don’t know where you consume scp content so I wouldn’t know but I feel like as a pure wiki reader plenty of the good ones like 5000 for example keep a sense of mystery while still telling a story.
I blame those content farm channels that dumb scp down for kids to harvest views. It's disgusting.
I was at one point honestly scared of the back rooms, the idea of being trapped in an area away from human life? Absolutely terrifying to think about.
And the fact you are alone, yet you know you're not gives me nightmares
I think the back rooms are honestly still a great idea where the idea of just random liminal spaces as rooms is already really cool and scary with the idea of nostalgia and familiarity is what made it good, but I think when they added monsters is what just made it so *SNOREEE MIMIMI* stupid
The Backrooms was just fine as it was before the idea of monsters because just psychologically scary kinda?
The levels ruined it.
The nostalgia concept is also kinda mid, because you're not supposed to feel comfortable. Same thing with the levels, factions and entities bullshit.
@@4bloxstuff nah, the levels are fine- up to a point, anyways. I do think it’d be somewhat stale to be just some piss yellow room the whole time. The entities too- to an extent. Like not knowing what’s around the corner makes it interesting, that is until the entities become demigods that can track your location from miles away and warp reality and stuff. And the nostalgia stuff- i’m not gonna sugarcoat it man, the backrooms is a concept free to be interpreted by anyone as they please, it doesn’t have to follow your exact philosophy and design and the backrooms isn’t “ruined” just because you personally don’t like what other people are doing.
@@apersoniguess_ Which point, specifically? Also, i would rather not call them levels if that was the case but instead what they look like (e.g. the poolrooms), i generally think it would be more fitting. Also i agree with you on the most part.
As the backrooms is, as you said: a concept free to be interpreted by anyone as they please, i'd say my headcanon is that the entire backrooms fandom wiki is bullshit.
@@4bloxstuff Up to the point where they add a bunch of gimmicks like being non-euclidian and entities that can warp space time and know your exact location even if they're a million miles away from you- pretty much, levels with outlandish gimmicks and overpowered entities is where I draw the line
@@apersoniguess_ I draw the line when it becomes a SCP rip-off.
The Horror of the backrooms came from the existential dread of being alone. The feeling that something’s there but not quite. The infinite wandering in a desolate area is much scarier than some murderous entity
and how is that scary, exactly?
@@keepitsecret-dl1pr I guess “scary” was the wrong adjective for this.
But the actual horror element of the concept shouldn’t be a direct and immediate fright, but from the whole idea that you’re potentially alone, that there **may** be something there but you’re completely in the dark about it. That’s the appeal of the backrooms imo. You yourself may not find it frightening, I don’t find it particularly scary, especially this monster-filled shitshow, but I think it’s a really neat concept that this more modern take on it utterly wastes.
Having no monster is scarier because imagine being trap alone with your thoughts and you don’t know what to do until you go insane

As someone who wrote on the Backrooms Wiki and made things from my own imagination
yeah i can kinda agree with you lmao
I don't think it's inherently bad. There are people who don't like the new stuff, and there are people who eat up content as soon as it comes out. I enjoy making new things because it's just fun. It's fun to use my imagination and make something people enjoy reading, as writing is a forte of mine. Sure, none of my works are liminal by any means, but I still loved writing them.
Though I will say that there is a large divide between the Wikidot (the place I wrote on) and the Fandom websites.
The Wikidot is much more professional/has a higher writing quality than some of the works on Fandom. This isn't to throw shade, it's just objectively true. We write some really good things on the Wikidot, and about 80% of the articles I see people make, while not inherently liminal, still have a huge mystery factor and keep me hooked.
But hey, to each their own. Everyone's got opinions :)
This is no longer true. The Fandom wiki has had an enormous revamp in the past month, to the point of surpassing the average Wikidot quality.
TS? You’re saying TS has ‘quality standards???’
@@ethanhawksley9097 I am. I haven't been on for quite some time, but from when I last made an article the quality was high, and from skims I've done over the past couple weeks the quality is higher than before. I love the backrooms concept with different levels as long as they are completely empty of people and any living things. I like the backrooms but this tends to happen to internet horror, people twist it in weird ways until you think of cringy fan made versions instead of the creepy original
That was oddly one of the funniest intros to a video I've seen
The Backrooms were still good in concept, as it played into the human fear of isolation. But somehow, the internet either misunderstood that concept or completely ignored it entirely when taking this horror concept at face value
It's mainly young kids who think dying is the scariest thing ever, so they throw in a bunch of murderous monsters. When the true horror of the backrooms is the potential of NOT dying, of being stuck in that endless loop of the same corridor over and over for potentially eternity or you eventually starve to death.

They made it far more interesting than whatever kind of cringe a lot of others have made about it(though there are some funny memes about it like with Peter Griffin being found in there & randomly telling you about car insurance).
About the memes, I always found funny when, in a videogame, a character clips through the floor or a wall, and then there's a 'footage' of them in the backrooms.

I think that the Backrooms would be fine if it wasn’t trying so damn hard to be the SCP Wiki. The Backrooms shouldn’t have a list of what you can find, the horror is the fact that no one knows what is possibly in these rooms and you could possibly be trapped forever without meeting a single thing.
Though then again, what was I expecting. It’s essentially a community project with no guidelines, quality and quantity control is going to be vastly low standard if it’s not a downright parody.
I agree with you 100% Good stuff!
In my opinion I think the poolrooms is one of the only custom made “other backrooms level” that actually has the same feel as the original. The thought of being all alone except an ongoing pool of water - to me it’s slightly scarier than the piss yellow waiting room we’re used to. For people that are afraid of water, or what lurks in it, and the whole “omg there’s a monster in the backrooms!” thing - it’s really not terrible.
I think that SOME extra levels work, like poolrooms, playrooms, and most of the first levels because they fit the desolate liminal feel, but then there is a level where you’re in an intestinal track, one where you’re on the fucking moon, those don’t fit the backrooms feel at all.
Yeah. The whole point of the backrooms is the normal and common areas that feel off. I mean, the original backrooms feels like an common place until you realize that it's liminal and empty.

Next was a much more well made game, and this one had footsteps playing behind you. I felt like I was going crazy, the buzzing lights were very loud, and I was always scared looking at any corner. I was silent. I take a turn, look around, and see something. I took a picture but soon afterwards, it chased and I just went in a ball. I’ve literally never been so scared of something in my life.

It makes me happy when someone vocalizes what I've been thinking in a far more cogent manner than I ever could.
The backrooms is great, there's a ton of great concepts that come from a simple concept and I think that simplicity is what keeps it intriguing. A lot of questions come up from the premise of "You've fallen into the backrooms.". How far does it go? Is there an end? Can I go back the way I came? Can I make myself a place to sleep? How far can I go before I start getting thirsty? Will dehydration kill me first? Or will I give up? What was that noise?
Adding fifty bajillion things to that premise kinda kills the desire to think about what you would do, there's too much to process, too much to know.
When you have nothing, and no idea what is happening. I feel like the urge increases to at least try to figure out what your next steps would be.
To be fair, the idea of something dangerous in the Backrooms with you was part of the text associated with the original photo. What I don’t like is making the Backrooms ENTIRELY about that, instead of focusing on the space it inhabits. It’s why I like Kane’s videos- regardless of what other elements he introduces, he still takes care to focus on the Backrooms by itself and just how CREEPY they are, even devoid of said elements.
people responded to a single phrase expressing worry and anxiety and turned it into justification to put slenderman in the lore.

I think about this a lot- I love liminal spaces and am absolutely fascinated by them. For me I like to think of types of "backrooms levels" as something I call the "liminal planes". It feels more open sounding, and I like to think of it as even more liminal/ few monsters. I'm also fascinated by weirdcore and like to think certain areas of the liminal planes are centered around that

It feels like anything that people thought of as a liminal space, or just a weird location had to be a "level" of the backrooms and I was so confused, cause I thought shouldn't it just be the yellow place? It feels like people really wanted more excitement from this concept, but in return, that initial feeling died with that
i think that a cool concept would be levels, but undocumented. instead of knowing everything about them, you get the same amount of info as you got with the yellow place: it exists, you can accidentally get into it, god save you
I gotta say this is some top tier editing

I think one of the more interesting ideas for it is just being isolated all by yourself, somehow unable to die. Unable to really do anything for all eternity but wander its halls. Just stuck there with only yourself.
I hate the inevitable fact that kids will be out there to go to any community/fandom on the internet (New tv shows, games, movies or already existing franchises) and just ruin it. What makes this worse is that you can't fucking do anything about it.
you're actually the best at the "In this video, I talk about (shit ton of algorithm bait words)" descriptions please teach me your ways
My good sir, You have earned a subscriber, Editing in this video was fun.
I feel like the best example of média that’s scary while also staying true to the backrooms concept (aside from Kane pixels) is probably the videogame the complex, no monsters no scary bs just you and a seemingly endless amount of liminal spaces seen through a vcr
What killed my interest in the back rooms for me was when they tried to make it an SCP clone and added creatures and dedicated research teams to it. Suddenly this mysterious dimension becomes less mysterious and more like “this is a place that exists, but don’t worry, it’s no longer mysterious since we know exactly everything there is to know about how these rooms work.”
To simplify, I don’t mind there being multiple levels, but a catalogue of creatures and a whole dossier of research factions within these back rooms killed the concept for me.
Stuff like ‘almond water’ also makes me cringe slightly because that makes the back rooms feel slightly less dangerous. If this drinkable water is able to be found all across the back rooms, you got a way to survive and thrive in this dimension that is supposed to be a special insanity inducing hellscape of inescapable, unsurvivable, yellow madness.
Don’t get me started on the not scary idea of creatures with the name of “The Party Goers”. They’re the main reason I hate the idea of having hundreds of different creatures that inhabit the back rooms, why have hundreds of different species when you can only have one main threat that stalks you through the dimension.
There’s also the idea that people WANT to visit this dimension and research organizations being like “Against our better judgement and our professional responsibility, we are going to give you tips and tricks on how to visit and survive the back rooms.” What government run organization willingly help people find ways to go into dangerous dimensions instead of warning them not to? This organization don’t give a crap about random people visiting this dimension despite the consequences and ramifications it could bring with it, and it makes it sound like people willingly want to visit the back rooms and never leave. Like this place is supposed a hell.

I never thought they were scary,
I always thought they were Intriguing.
Something that I do find scary AND intriguing is the entire SCP IP which unlike The Backrooms didn't rely on one gimmic or trend to be relevant which made it pretty hard to ruin if you were deep into it. I mean yeah like The Backrooms, you get cash grabbers making the most brain dead content to feed to children in the SCP community, but not all SCP content is under the Horror Genre. So if the Horror part gets oversaturated, you still can enjoy SCP content.
SCP has become the most elaborate circlejerk ever since they let writers become unanimous. At this point you have people like the guy who wrote 049 absolutely shitting their pants over old shit. Like yeah I get it, your SCP you hamfisted into the forum so no-one else could get popular off the wiki is badly written, but you can't retconn things you wrote 10+ years ago.
Now 049 is apparently a hulking brute who just kills people for fun. Do I even have to explain how that defies everything the OG lore implied? SCP was never about random-ass entities killing people 'cause fuck logic - people told outstanding stories in the same wiki you and I can visit now.
But hey, you gotta have Backrooms writers peeling off the SCP wiki's back fat for bragging rights. Creating one-dimensional characters like the Shidfard Cumster, an entity in level 103383929282 only seen if you equip a condom at 6 PM. And also he kills you. And has a smiley face. He's also tall. He has no face. Oh yeah, and he's insane. Don't even get me started on his kitchen knives that he consistently shits out.
SCP and The Backrooms both suffer EXTREMELY obvious telltate cliches and overall shitty cataloguing.
@@sparrowanon I didn't hear shit about 049's writer besides the Interview he had with Dr. Cimmerian, and even If he tried to retcon SCP-049, he really can't as SCP's canon is essentially either democratically agreed upon by the entire community or each individual can have their own canon as each story written can and will retcon a story written by someone else. And what do you mean by "unanimous" exactly?
@@TheMagnumDon Did my reply not go through? I said I disagree with retconning, which means I totally agree with 049's retconns being absurd.
I believe I meant 'unanimous' as writers being in agreement with one idea or the other since as we all know, SCP has a ludicrous amount of alternative worldbuilding and conflicts in regards to the canon. No-one should be allowed to flip the narrative or fit a certain canon. That's just kinda dumb in my opinion.
Everyone is completely ignoring lim archives and it’s sad because the Kane lore backrooms have this issue but Lim archives are rather freaky.

The lonely single player aspect of the game, and the general quiet ambient atmosphere of the source engine hand itself really well to the ominous setting which the liminal spaces initially tried to capture.
The Scariest part of Backrooms is the unknown. However as more people started to add levels and entities with detailed descriptions and detailed lore n stuff, it is absolutely not scary anymore because we know most of the stuff about it now.
Say what you will, I still like the Bone Thief cartoons

The first time I saw the backrooms I got nightmares for multiple days. A few years later I was wondering why was it so wacky now
Like you said in the video “In don’t like the idea of multiple levels in the backrooms,” maybe a good middle could be instead: Having the “different levels” being their own “backroom,” where each level is their own separate area with no connection other than being an infinite maze of a liminal space. Ex. The pool rooms
How did I find this vid after only 43 seconds?
this channel is severely underrated
Well you, sir, have just earned my sub!
off topic but this video is very chaotic, i love it so much 😭😭😭
“The back rooms are NOT scary”
Yeah, but Lanky Kong is. If I saw that dude handstand-running towards me, I’m saying my prayers.
I’ve been noticing that the backrooms isn’t as popular any more. which is actually a good thing which is just hilarious.
