Romeo is right about the tinsel. I grew up with it and it can be pretty, but taking it off the tree is worse than putting it on. It gets so tangled!!
My mom saved the tinsel from year to year when I was little so I was a teen before I realized the tinsel was supposed to be straight, not crinkled.
Yeah I also find it so wasteful. Like that tree will go to the curb to likely be mulched.. what happens to all the tinsel that one inevitably stays behind on it?
Edit to say I forgot she had a fake tree, still find it wasteful haha
@@rachellee.9389 actually here we salvage ut each year and the more crinkle it has the better. i tried hard to buy it used the old version that is heavier and it reflects light nicer, as the crinkles make the light reflect in differently. but i use it very sparsely.
Our dog used to eat it so we stopped using it years ago in the 90's but it would get on everything once you took the tree down. I live in my grandparents old house and I've found stuff in our holiday things that STILL has the tinsel from 20 years ago all over it lol.
So dangerous for animals. You couldn’t even buy it for years. I was shocked you found it.

I was told that when your getting tile, make sure all the boxes have the same lot number so that the color is consistent. A different lot number means it’s a different batch and the color could be off slightly.
So relieved you are skipping the tinsel, thank you Romeo!! Now, I won't have to worry about Kinsley getting into it. Can't wait to see the tile up, you are one energetic young woman!!!
So happy we get to see you relax :D. I think it's incredible how you can keep track of everything you have to do, do it and film it, edit the video and bring us shots like yesterday of romeo ironing all the different shirts, do the sweatshirt project... on the side and so on. I hope you don't overdo yourself and enjoy your favourite time of the year.

Me doggy my baby passed 5 months again and I thought I would never be able to be a doggy mommy again but just seeing you too showed me how I missed that and so I got a new puppy which I love to pieces and I am not sad anymore when u snuggle with ur baby. I love seeing Kinsley in your videos because she looks almost exactly like my baby girl Mishka. My Mishka died on August 4th of this year from kidney failure, and I'm still so brokenhearted without her. She was nearly 16 years old, and she was my best buddy. I know you already do, but make sure to get every snuggle you can. It's what I miss most.

I'm with Romeo on the tinsel. I grew up with it on every tree and put it on my trees, too, when I started out on my own, But it must be bad for the environment. Plus, I go through so much trouble to put the ornaments on to make sure the tree looks great and then cover it all with tinsel? Nope. Plus, I have cats and I don't need the several thousand-dollar surgery if they happen to eat the tinsel.

GIRL! The kitchen tile stacked horizontal is TOO MODERN (in my opinion) just like you did for the built in’s I think you should do herringbone!! It matches the bathrooms in style and isn’t too modern! Plus adds more interest, which can be subtle or apparent with the mortar!
Love the color of the kitchen tile-it’s going to be beautiful. I wonder thou if stacking the tile will make it look more contemporary, it stead of vintage. Either way, it is going to be amazing.
Try clear acrylic icicle ornaments instead of foil icicles. They are so pretty! You could even collect hanging chandelier crystals! It would be fun to find those at estate sales.
Chandelier crystals used to be cheap, but as others have had the same idea they have gone up in price. I have gifted crystals in years past.

Yes!! I know EXACTLY what you mean we just did a reno on our home, we did all the work framing, lam beams, insulation, oh and the demo that was a job in inself painting,hardwood flooring (we outsourced electrical, sheetrock, and moving our f/p...putting our bookcases and custom made cubbies in now I'm trying to get it all organized, I have stuff everywhere...we didn't get to decorate the way we wanted to for christmas either...getting this job fully completed is the goal!! We are almost there...😊
Grey mist on the walls, pashmina on the cabinets, dark stain on the window, black shiny backsplash and limewash. Quite an array of different colours n textures on one wall MaCenna. I'm sure u would have envisioned it beautifully. Love love love your videos. It's a perfect start to my day😍

I love your process and the way you take us along to see how make decisions on material, you’re researching and thinking aloud while doing that. People that record instructions just say what they went with but I rarely hear the thoughts behind the decision making. The why, where, prices, type of materials and how to go about choosing what would work best with your vision that you also share with us….. you are something else and “all the things” put together, lol.
I just did that thin brick on my fireplace and it's gorgeous! It was too easy! It would be super pretty as a laundry/mudroom floor in a herringbone pattern as well

We have glass and plastic/crystal-looking icicles on our tree. It gives the icicle look and some shine without the mess and bother of tinsel.

If you want that “drippy” vintage look of tinsel but don’t like tinsel per se… get glass icicles! They’re just fine twisted glass rods and you hang them on the tips of branches after all your ornaments are up. You’ll thank me later!!

Quick tip based on my experience with creating a pathway. You can use polymer sand for the cracks. It’s a special fine sand that really gets into the cracks and it actually hardens when you add water. Almost like bonding it all together.
Your tile choice has grown on me, & especially now that you've decided to place in a stacked brick pattern. Looking forward to these kitchen projects. Perhaps the extra project could be finishing the refrigerator front panels. Loving Vlogmas!!
A herringbone or basketweeve woud also be really pretty for the backsplash. Love these videos they give me so much motivation! Thank you so much

After renovating 5+ houses and having materials EVERYWHERE, I started buying large clear bins with lids and organizing everything by project: plumbing, electrical, paint, etc. So when I need to work on something I just grab that bin and have everything I need.
Did anyone else notice the lady bug on MaCenna's sweatshirt while getting out of the car? Lady bugs are supposed to symbolize good luck, so I hope she was bringing you luck on finishing your kitchen before Christmas 😊
We use tensile for our Christmas tree and we start at the top and kinda “drag” the tensile down. It creates a good look!
!!! You can use an angle grinder to cut tiles! My husband learned how to do this from CZcams when we recently did our bathroom tile and we didn't even end up TOUCHING the wet saw we had borrowed. He even did amazing curved custom cuts with the angle grinder with no broken tiles.
I grew up with tinsel. Every year. I'm 60 ish now and I agree with Romeo......NO TINSEL. Passionately, no tinsel.

I have some vintage baskets and old steamtrunks to keep random stuff in ( mostly Christmas) it’s decorative and would look good on top of your coffee bar area

Hi, a lot of times if the place is closed on the weekend for a rental you will get the weekend for free and have to return it on Monday instead...you can do the herringbone look with the tile on the wall in the kitchen ... that would look amazing !!

I've seen some gorgeous stacked tile, and they were thin and rectangular like yours. Those were gray and white variegated tiles, with subtle hints of an almost brown color. Hard to describe, but really attractive.
You know what you can substitute for tinsel is rolling wide velvet ribbon. Quicker to install and still nostalgic.
Love spending vlogmas with you. Use Odies oil to seal the trim around the windows. It adds depth and softness and keeps the wood stain from looking flat. So sorry I wasn't fast enough to get a sweatshirt. What a wonderful creative idea!

I remember icicles(tinsel) on our trees growing up in Maine. Moved to Florida after getting married and of course used it on my tree the first year. Opened up the window because it got hot and it all blew off, everywhere! No more tinsel until I moved back to Maine!

The secret to tinsel is 1 - 2 -3. Add 1 strand, then on next branch add 2 strands, then on next add 3... then back to 1. And keep going.

If you have extra tile don't you have a space inside the Mantle surrounding your fireplace that you painted black where you could add tiled to match the kitchen? Maybe you're already planning this but I feel like those tiles would go really well in your living room.
I have to agree with Romeo, I feel like tinsels on a tree make it look like a tree full of spiderwebs!
I was born in the fifties and tinsel was used extensively but what a headache. All of us who grew up with tinseled trees, and got the job of de-tinseling after the holidays, quickly abandoned the stuff when we got older and put up our own trees. There's a reason it's outdated.

Something I’ve always had in mind when you asked about tile options for the kitchen backsplash was brick like/stone. Almost like the outdoor side of the fire place. A bit warmer in color but something similar.
