Getting the Most out of Pioneer DJ's Pro DJ Link Feature

  • Pioneer’s Pro DJ Link feature enables up to four decks to share a single music source via LAN cable. It can also be used with Pioneer’s DJM 900NXS, 900SRT, and 2000NXS mixers, enabling DJs to synchronize effects. There is a lot of confusion about Pro DJ Link, though, so DJcityTV’s Mojaxx has put together a video on how to set it up and get the most out of it.

    Great job Mojax - it took me a lot of (stressful pre-gig) trial and error to realise the USB AND the Ethernet needed to be ejected before you can change the player number! One thing I didn't realise was the Link feature, thanks for explaining that!
    You forget to mention that Fader Start also works wiht Pro DJ Link, very handy!

      Hey Mo,I was hoping u could help me.I just picked up an 8-port Net-gear ProSafe switch so I can connect 4 CDJ2000nexus with a DJM-900Srt mixer along with a DDJ-SP1 & an EFX-1000 running all running with Serato Dj.
      I followed your instructions word for word & I got everything hooked up properly.Every deck is assigned to the proper player number & everything is plugged into the switch meaning all 5 units.The 4x)CDJ's & the 1x)mixer.So problem I'm having is that the decks won't light up red when I have the channel up on the Mixer.However, Everything else works like the tempo on the mixer with effects running through each deck.I did the same exact test as u with the echo & moved the pitch on each deck to see if it stayed in time with the mixer.All is well but again the decks won't light up red.Any help would be much appreciated.Do u think it's cause I don't have my Mac hooked up into the switch?That's the only unit not plugged in.I ran out of cable.
      Thank u
      DjTonyDraperNYC.

      Btw I'm running in HID mode as I'm sure you know & everything is being ran with USB cables. My serato works fine & each deck is able to read my folders from it. Idk man. The players just won't light up red.

      (or CDs) I'm afraid Tony. There's no benefit to linking up when using HID.

    @2:44 you talk about the fader and cross fader turning off the on air indicator. What everyone else should know is that the on air can also be shut of in anyway that completely cuts the music. If you have isolator on rather than EQ turned on and turn off all 3 EQ knobs your deck will also show your deck is off air even with the faders up. Gain and master volume work the same also.

    • @Mojaxx
      @Mojaxx Před 9 lety +1

      Interesting! I don't use the isolator mode on the EQ, prefer the original curve, so never noticed that.
      I got caught out by the master volume affecting the on-air display, couldn't work out why it wasn't working! But I guess if the master is down, it's not really 'on-air' anyway...

    When you have the mixer and CDJs linked together it's possible to use the fader start function as well.
    On old CDJs you needed the 3,5 jack cables to do it.

    Along time ago, when it was cdj2000 x2 and djm2000, all we had to do was plug the link (Ethernet) cable from the 2x cdjs into the djm then plug the djm to the computer via usb and voila! You got sound going directly to each channel of the mixer and song can be sourced from computer to either cdjs or from a usb stick on either cdjs going to either cdj, but no rca able was needed when linked like this. I’m curious why I see people who have their mixer/cdjs linked all together still plug up rca cables??

  • @lewissamm
    @lewissamm Před 6 lety

    Thanks for useful info about functions of linking the mixer with CDJs.
    Questionable that you recommend cheap cat 5/ethernet and switch box/network hub. You won't need to buy 10 and replace them if you buy good quality. High end DJ riders often specify to use high quality Cat 5/ethernet cables and switch box/network hub.
    The most common part to break on CDJs is the cat 5 port and non stiff cables helps to reduce tension and chance if coming loose during performance.
    Never have a weak link! ;)

    I currently have my controller linked in by USB to my computer is there much of a difference between Ethernet and USB?
    is one better over the other?

    Is it worth getting some cdjs 850s second hand in 2023?
    I can’t afford 2000s or 900 nexus and need a Cdj that will take usb.
    I have Cdj 1000s and it’s so shit that they don’t have usb but the 850s do. I’ll have to learn record box infused of burning off cds all the time.

    • @jgonz3542
      @jgonz3542 Před rokem

      Huge jump from vinyl to RB; anyone who tells you different is lying. That said; I went for the XDJ 1000 MK2, no CD's which was fine for me since I wanted to maintain that vinyl feel of having two media players and a mixer but I spent double what someone who could get all the same features with a DDJ 1000. RB is required for XDJ 1000 mk2 (Limited serato use). It has Pro DJ link but frankly....I will never use it. I use either my laptop in Performance mode or my USB thumbdrive and only the Hardware FX of my DJM S7 mixer. Good luck and if you think its hectic now, wait till you spend all that cash and try to get support from Pioneer (wont happen). Thats when it gets hectic.

    Wouldn’t it be smart on pioneers end to make the mixer multi hub ready instead of spending money on a external hub? Just seems tacky that they didn’t think that through… 🤔🧐🧐🤔🤔

    I just don't understand why no one ever uses the Digital out rather than RCA out. You only need one cable and it's less compression lol Not that it really matters lol but really, no one uses it.
