    HOW TO CREATE JEOPARDY POWERPOINT GAME WITH SCOREBOARD & POINTS
    In this Microsoft PowerPoint Tutorial, we shall be learning how to make a Jeopardy PowerPoint Game Show which has an interactive scoreboard for keeping points. This PPT Template can be used by teachers in their classroom or by quiz masters to promote competition amongst the students!
    You can also download the Premium and Advanced Jeopardy PowerPoint Template which has music, scoreboard, animations, and transitions too!
    HYPERLINKS IN POWERPOINT GAMES
    We first need to understand and learn the functions of hyperlinks in PowerPoint before making Games in PowerPoint. We also have Action Buttons which are present within the option to insert shapes in PowerPoint.
    Those Action Buttons have hyperlinks built inside them. We can use the “Return Action Button” to go to the Jeopardy Game Menu in PowerPoint. Basically, it takes us to the last slide viewed by the player.
    Using these hyperlinks and action buttons, we can customize slide navigation by the click of shapes in your very own Interactive PowerPoint Game.
    CREATING JEOPARDY POWERPOINT GAME
    In the first slide of our Jeopardy PowerPoint Game, we need to make the category titles and the question boxes. The official Game Show has 6 categories with 5 questions in each.
    However, for the sake of this PowerPoint Tutorial, I shall be creating 4 Jeopardy categories with 3 questions in each.
    Insert three rectangle shapes in the first slide. They will be the $100, $200 and the $300 questions of Category One. I used the Gyparody Font which made the game look more authentic since it looks similar to the official Jeopardy Graphic!
    You can design the shapes as per your requirements. I followed the yellow and navy blue colour scheme in my tutorial. You can use the CTRL key while dragging any shape to duplicate it. This nifty shortcut in PowerPoint has saved me a lot of time while creating PowerPoint Game Templates.
    You can also add a Trigger Animation to make the shape clicked to disappear so that the same question isn’t repeated again.
    Similarly, finish creating the Jeopardy Menu Screen with the required number of Categories and Questions.
    ADDING JEOPARDY QUESTIONS IN POWERPOINT SLIDE MASTER
    Go to View - Slide Master and insert a New Layout. You can create and design the question slide within that Slide Layout.
    We will be inserting that Custom Slide Layout within the Jeopardy PowerPoint Game later.
    Also, add the “Return Action Button” in the Jeopardy Question Slide which is created in Slide Master. This will allow the student or the player to be redirected to the Last Slide Viewed after answering the question and awarding points to the player.
    CREATING JEOPARDY SCOREBOARD TO KEEP POINTS IN POWERPOINT
    Create boxes for the two players within the Custom Slide Layout itself. You can add two ActiveX Label Element within those two-player boxes. Check the PowerPoint video tutorial on how it is done.
    Change the Labels Properties (colour, font, size, alignment) and name them as P1 and P2 respectively, which stands for Player 1 and Player 2 in the Jeopardy PowerPoint Game Template.
    Now go back to your Normal View and insert this Slide Layout in Slide 2 of your Presentation.
    JEOPARDY SCOREBOARD POINTS COUNTER
    ADDING MACROS & HYPERLINKS
    You need to assign the Macro which the corresponding shape has to run when we click it during Slide Show Mode one by one.
    Click on those shapes which have to increase the player’s score counter and go to Insert - Actions - Mouse Click - Run Macro - …
    After you have assigned the macros to the shapes which would increase the points, you need to assign hyperlinks to the shapes which are present under the category in our first slide.
    Select those shapes one by one and insert a hyperlink which will take the player to the corresponding slide.
    The $100 question of Category 1 has to take the student player to Slide Number 2, the $200 question should redirect them to Slide Number 3, and so on.

    OMG you are a genius. Not only did you create a very detailed walk-through, but you also made your viewers, me, feel like a genius right along with you by the end video with a complete, functioning game. I completely ignored the fact I watched this video as a stop-pause-rewind-yell at screen-play-retry-apologize to screen-play viewer and went to show off to my household claiming that it only took me about an hour because I obviously was born with all the skills in the family...always humble!!! Lol You've made me proud of myself because this was really something I thought I would NEVER be able to accomplish, coding (lol the little bit you showed us how to do). Thank you greatly, and always be blessed

      oh wowowo! I am humbled by your amazing comment! I just came out of my school classes, super tired and your comment brought back literally all of my lost energy. You're super awesome and I really appreciate you checking out the video! I approve of the message that you were born with all the skills, your family should praise you xDD.
      VBA Coding is some of the easiest and has the highest return on time invested! If you'd love to know more, I have a couple of playlists, extremely basic codes that have been used in a creative fashion!
      Do send me an email, I'd love to share part 2 of this game that I haven't made public yet ahah!
      The comment was so fun to read not gonna lie, I showed it to one of my friends and she was in all praises for you too! The "stop-pause-rewind-yell at screen-play-retry-apologize to screen-play viewer" is so authentic, raw, and real.
      Thank you so much!

      Let's take this scenario:
      1. Sub ABC() stored in SlideLayout22
      2. Sub XYZ() stored in Slide4
      If you want to call ABC in Slide4, you'd have to refer to it as: SlideLayout22.ABC
      If you want to call XYZ in SlideLayout22, you'd have to refer to it as Slide4.XYZ
      In this current video, all my ActiveX Labels (P1, P2) are stored in SlideLayout13.
      If I had to refer to P2.Caption in any other place other than SlideLayout13, I would mention SlideLayout13.P2.Caption instead of just P2.Caption.
      To re-iterate, we must add a prefix that contains its stored location whilst calling it from some other module/slide/layout.
      I have explained it in this video too: (from 9:40)

    Great video! I have Microsoft PowerPoint version 16.43 and I cannot find the developer ribbon and tried other online search which mentions activating through the "options" tab in the home screen but, my powerpoint format does not have an options tab. I created the entire presentation including writing the codes for the points using the 'visual basics editor' tab. But since I don't have the developer ribbon, I am not able to add points to the players. Can someone help with this? TIA.

      Similar to the code we have for +100, +200 and +300. You can make one for reducing points (instead of the plus symbol, use minus symbol) and have another shape to run that macro:
      Sub P1Minus100()
      P1.Caption = (P1.Caption) - 100

      The ActiveX Label gets 'duplicated' in a multi-monitor setup when the resolutions of both the screen are not the same. A simple fix would be to 'duplicate screen' instead of 'extending it' or just disconnecting the second monitor for a bit.

      This is a very common error with ActiveX elements which occur when you have multiple displays.
      I prefer to use Shapes and I change the text of the shape via VBA.
      Dim L1 As shape
      Set L1 = ActivePresentation.Slides(1).Shapes("entershapename")
      L1.Textframe.Textrange = int(L1.Textframe.TextRange) + 5
      --
      So the above is an example.
      Conclusion: don't use ActiveX elements, use Shapes. Also, the text of the shapes don't get changed in time if shape is in slidelayout***
      Now, place the shape in all the slides and use a for-loop so that it gets updates everywhere.
      I also have a premium template on my website for the same game which doesn't use ActiveX elements, which is up for purchase!

    Very Cool implementation of Jeopardy using Powerpoint. I've been playing around with the Code and I have a question..
    Is it possible to have have an ActiveX Label in the Slide Master with text in the Caption field. Then reassign the value of the Caption text with a VB subroutine? Similar to how you increment the scores by adding T1.Caption = (T1.Caption) + 100, can you re-assign the text value of a Caption. So, if I had an Active X Label named "Q" and entered a "Question 1" in Properties for the Q.Caption, is can I run a subroutine to change the Q.Caption = "Question 2"?
    I tried it and I thought i was able to do it, but i tried to do it again and can't seem to get it to work.

    • @PPTVBA
      @PPTVBA  Před 3 lety +1

      Yep definitely! You'll have to mak sure the codes are being typed within that slide layout and not a different module. If being typed in a different module, you neee to refer to the location of the ActiveX element, that would be SlideLayoutxx.
      But in this case, I'd just use a normal box and change the .textfeame.textrange of the normal textbox shapes.

      @@georgelouie5330 ahhhh. That's a bit unorthodox way to achieve it, not impossible, just unorthodox.
      I would rather use a shape and change the text within that as the ActiveX TextBox has limitations.

      Make a new macro:
