  • The new agent Clove can be easily argued as they fit in more as a Duelist than they do as a Controller. I go over the two different roles and what defines them, and how agents fits in. Then I go over how Clove's arsenal fit in more suitably to the role of a Duelist rather than a Controller. Like and subscribe if you enjoyed!

    there's some important points that need to be said:
    1- valorant roles are limited, very limited. controllers play differently depending on character, that's why normally i like to call them either controller-sentinels or controller-initiators, with controller-sentinels being the ones like viper or harbor, and the initiators being omen or brim. and clove would be one of the first duelist controller agents that ive seen.
    2- controllers playing back and safe is kinda of a stereotype, it really depends on lots of context and considering maps like breeze where you can play two controllers, one of them being supportive and the other being fully smoke, you can go nuts with omen and brim while a harbor or viper is smoking the site.
    3- omen isn't the only controller with selfish abilities, viper's ult is a great example, since she can distinguish enemies easier and takes lots of area herself while dealing decay on enemies. this also applies for astra, but not because of her abilities specifical, but because she can play wherever she wants.
    4- clove's decay ability is really strong, like reeeally strong when well used, and I don't like to think that clove needs to open sites when they doesn't have their ult, what i normally like to do as a clove is: play anti flash for my duelists, take off areas with my decay, play trade kills with my duelists and etc. Just because they can open site doesn't mean they should, mainly when you think about a competitive lobby with random people where normally, if someone dies in a site, they will all rotate and then you're completely useless.
    5- and for last, their ult. something really good to know about clove ult is that.... you can move. it sounds dumb, but it's fucking amazing, since you can change positions or rotating site with your team, and even if you die from not killing anyone, you can still smoke to your teammates to site. This means that Clove's ability not only takes value on kill, but takes value on itself just by moving since you gain more area for your team and gain more capacity of smoking for them. the job of a controller is being able of, you guessed it, control areas, and clove is a controller and not a duelist because the way they control the area is by dueling and playing by the back of their duelists.
    anyway, that's my opinion, i liked the video but I don't completely agree on classifying agents on such limited roles, and that's mainly riot's fault. but good work❤
    (sorry for any misspeling, English isn't my main language)

    I think actually comparing/contrasting the qualities of each role for this character was pretty insightful. I mean she does give off duelist vibe but I think the video helped me understand the play style a lot better so thank you :)

    I think u forgot cloves ultimate is situational, if your in first half the time you might just die because you can’t get a kill or because you don’t want to be giving up a weapon. I felt your insight about the ult was very surface level and needs more of a in depth analysis to understand why or why not you should be treating clove as the first in.

      @Nibble.  Před měsícem

      it was definitely surface level, the reason I picked the situations that I did was because of the fact that the devs themselves designed clove to be an aggressive agent, hence I looked at everything through that lens

    just bc they are aggressive doesnt make them closer to a duelist.. none of the duelist have smokes that last for 11+ seconds

      @Nibble.  Před měsícem +1

      Phoenix has a wall that lasts several seconds, Neon has a double wall that lasts several seconds, Jett USED to be able to smoke quite a bit when stacking them - so I'm gonna have to disagree here

      @@Nibble.They last at 7 secs

      @Nibble. ok but it burns his own teamates.. vipers wall decays and doesn't decay teammates. Plus phoenix uses it to heal himself most of the time which doesn't benefit teammates

    • @deathknight1247
      @deathknight1247 Před měsícem

      @Nibble. plus cloves meddle can be really useful for teammates pushing with u or for u.. but what I stated is his ult not his wall but just bc a controllers aggressive doesn't mean they should be a duelist

    • @deathknight1247
      @deathknight1247 Před měsícem

      Note deadlock is supposed to play more aggressive than a regular sentinel but ur not calling deadlock a duelist

    For me she always felt like a duelist but with controller abilitys tacked onto so riot can call her a controller

    clove is a controller duelist hybrid. everyone knows that. no need to make a video about it

      Then why did you click on the video? Not everyone knows, no need to speak for others :)
