Yes. He crooned to young girls even in WWII. He dodged the draft claiming he had a punctured ear drum, yet he had perfect pitch. He was not popular with WWII vets for dodging the draft and woukd get booed on stage by the men in the audience. Jimmy Stewart served as a B17 pilot. Glenn Miller died serving as an army bandleader in a plane crash over the English Channel. So Sinatra could have served in a non combat duty, but at least serve and take some risk but he didn't. WWII vets called hi Frank Swoonatra in derision for that.
But then John Wayne also got out if thr draft. He was married and had two kids. But the studios needed him to make propaganda movies and thr US Governemtn agreed. frank Capra pulled strings to get him out of the draft as an "essential" civilian. Wayne had to live that and became a super patriot in the 60s--70s to compensate for it.

To really discover the essence of Sinatra, you have to see a performance video. His stage presence was on a whole different level from everyone else. He loved to record in the same room with the whole orchestra. He respected the musicians and they respected him. For a real treat you should watch his performance of Luck Be A Lady. It’s magical. Thanks for your great reaction. 👏👏

I love Frank! My uncle played trumpet with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra when Frank was one of the band singers, back in the 1930s. He sings the classic Great American Songbook songs and swing. My personal favorite era was the 1950s, he has so many hits then. You can’t go wrong with any of his stuff. His voice is pure gold, and he was famous for his impeccable phrasing.

  • @WMalven
    @WMalven Před 3 lety

Two things you will notice about Frank, the first is his diction. You never need a lyrics sheet to understand what he's singing. He pronounces every word clearly and distinctly while still giving the song that distinctive swing and emotion. The second is his breath control, he could maintain a note for 16 bars, which meant he never had to sneak a breath in the middle of singing a phrase. As far as talent goes, he was head and shoulders above the rest of his peers...a very deep rabbit hole.

Before there was Michael Jackson, before there was the Beatles, before there was Elvis, there was Frank. The girls were screaming just as loud. He had 'em in the palm of his hands. And what a fascinating life. Over the New Year's weekend, I just watched the two-part documentary on his life that's running on Netflix. I highly recommend it. So many Frank Sinatra songs you could watch and react to. Here are a few must-sees: "Fly Me to the Moon," "The Lady Is A Tramp," "Luck Be A Lady," "That's Life," "The Way You Look Tonight," "It Was A Very Good Year," and "My Way" are a good group of songs to start with. And no list of Sinatra songs would be complete without mentioning one they play at every NY Yankees game in NYC: "New York, New York." (You've heard it; you just didn't know it was Frank.). There are probably fifty or a hundred more I could list. Here are just a few others: "The Best Is Yet to Come," "Witchcraft," "All the Way." I could go on...and on.

  • @helgar791

It's sad to see that most people of your age don't know this music. Frank used to record sitting in the middle of that huge orchestra, all playng and singing the song at the same time. Sinatra was of the age when the lyric ruled and those that interpreted that lyric were its Kings and Queens. It was an age where each syllable was important, where each syllable was clearly sung, and it was the singers job to make them all personal to you. Where the best singers conveyed the meaning behind the lyric. Where the best singers knew that the audience should be treated with respect. Where each song had a melody, and was not just a beat with someone going through vocal acrobatics in order to keep you interested.
Frank was always the coolest guy in the room. Try him singing "Come Fly With Me", "You Make Me Feel So Young", "Witchcraft", may favorite "Summer Wind", "The Best Is Yet To come", "My Way", "It Was A Very Good Year", and about 100 others, give or take. Also try Nat "King" Cole, the master of relaxation, doing "Nature Boy", "Mona Lisa", "Unforgettable", "Stardust", "When I Fall In Love", and of course, "The Christmas Song".

Francis Albert Sinatra; born in Hoboken NJ Dec.12th 1915, passed away on May 14th, 1998. He was active from the late 30s through the mid 90s; I saw him in concert in Dec of '93; the whole audience sang Happy Birthday to him.
In the movie, The Godfather, the character of Don Corleone's godson, the crooner who sang at his daughter's wedding and the events surrounding him, was based on Sinatra and his (alleged?) Mafia connections. In 1953e won both The Oscar and Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Maggio in "From Here to Eternity".
Too many songs that he sang to list as "ya gotta here this one, man!"
"All The Way" from his movie The Joker is Wild, the Theme From New York, New York. It Was A Very Good Year. One that no one seems to ever mention is, I'm A Fool To Want You.... I think it was written for him or he had a hand in writing it as it seems like a torch song about/for his former wife, Ava Gardner.
Sorry to go on, but I'm a big fan and this is the first "reaction" to one of his songs that I've seen.

I'm proud of you! You took my suggestion to do some Frank Sinatra reactions! And I'm not the least bit surprised that you were delighted by what you found.
Here's the deal: Before Michael Jackson, before the Beatles, before Elvis, even before rock 'n roll, there was Frank Sinatra. He might just be the one single biggest solo music star in history. He's certainly one of the coolest dudes who ever lived. You have no idea how big of a star he was and how women swooned over him back in the '40s and '50s, and even into the '60s and '70s as he aged like a fine wine and his voice just got better and better with age.
Here are a few Frank Sinatra classics that you owe it to yourself to watch and enjoy, whether or not you do them for a reaction video:
Luck Be A Lady (find the live version of this)
The Best Is Yet to Come
    Witchcraft
It Was A Very Good Year
    That's Life
Something Stupid (a duet he did with his daughter Nancy, a hit the same year she did "Boots")
My Way (this one will make the hair on your arms stand up)
The Lady Is A Tramp (not as sexist as it sounds; it meant something else back then)
Theme from "New York, New York" (you'll instantly recognize this one)
Plus, there are so many others they're too numerous to list. Frank was the biggest musical star this country has ever known. Bigger than the Beatles. Bigger than Elvis. And much longer time on top than any of them. He was the singer for the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra during World War II. And later, when his solo career was in full bloom during the years he was with Capitol Records, he hooked up with Nelson Riddle, one of the greatest bandleaders in history, and many of his hits had the Nelson Riddle Orchestra doing the music track behind him. (Check out an instrumental song called "Route 66" by the Nelson Riddle Orchestra. It's the perfect thing to have blasting out of your car speakers while driving down the open road on a highway somewhere.)
You, or any of the reactors, could easily do a whole week of nothing but Frank Sinatra songs. I promise, you won't be disappointed. "Cool" just oozed out of Sinatra's pores. He was one cool dude.
And while you're in the mood for some of these jazz vocals by classic American artists, check out Frank Sinatra's favorite singer, Tony Bennett, whose hits included "(I Left My Heart) In San Francisco," "I Wanna Be Around," and others. And the incomparable Nat "King" Cole, whose biggest hits include such classics as "L-O-V-E," "Autumn Leaves," "Unforgettable," and "Smile" (yes Michael Jackson recorded it, too....it was written in the early 1900s by Charlie Chaplin). Have Kleenex handy for that one.
You are on an amazing journey. I strongly recommend that you download lyrics to the songs you react to so you'll be able to know what they're about rather than trying to guess based on a phrase here and there.

Frank aka The Chairman of the Board, is most famous for his song New York, New York. Also worth a listen is My Way. But man oh man the guy could sing. Just buy any Sinatra album and prepare to be mesmerized.

I've watched a lot of reactions of different people to types of music they've not listened to but this is one of the stronger reactions to Sinatra, and I haven't seen a reaction channel go down the Sinatra/swing/jazz rabbit hole. Could be fun to see you do more :-)

Also if you like that, you might try AfroBeat music from Africa going back to the 1970s (lots of horns). Another channel I follow did a great reaction to that genre with "Water No Get Enemy" by Fela Kuti.

You'd probably get a kick out of Matt Monro, a UK crooner, who Frank himself described as 'The Greatest'! 😮
A good introduction to MM would be 'On days like these', or 'Born Free', or 'From Russia with love'.
I love seeing reactions to our greatest singers from the UK too!

Exactly the response I expect! If he doesn't get you moving, something's really wrong in your soul.
