    I am a professional photographer for the past 40 years. The transition to digital, then the transition to workflow from desktop to lap top and now the past 2 years on iPad Pro. Love your video. Our processes are somewhat similar to get to the end product. I use cloud storage as well as Adobe CC storage and 2 sandisk’s 1tb storage. Great job promoting a new way to have a workflow more integral, more organic with a better sense of hands on. Fun to find your channel.

    Awesome video, I think it is great that you have found a way to incorporate an iPad as your main workflow tool despite having to pay for Adobes monthly fee. I have wanted to do this for a long time as I love the idea of working on my iPad. I still have the original Pro which is ageing now and considering purchasing either the 2018, 2019 or latest 2021. Have you also considered using a network storage space as your archive like NAS Synology and the likes so won't be needing your old mac? Thank you. Hi Aaron! Thanks for the thorough walkthrough:) I have a question about the export options that I can't seem to find an answer to anywhere: When choosing to export DNG files, what parameters can you adjust, like image size, compatability etc, compared to Lightroom classic? In my work I often need to export batches of DNG files with specific settings, not just fill size DNG. Once again, thank you!

    • @risa7484
      @risa7484 Před rokem

      None. In fact, when you export as dng, LR exports the photo as Original, so you loose all of your edits sadly. So far, exporting as DNG has been a very frustrating experience on iPad.

    Really struggling with the 2021 ipad pro 12.9. Transferring JPEG and Raw images directly into the ipad connected to a portable hard drive. Pics transfer no problem but when editing in photoshop express when you tap the Sharpness tool at the end of the process the picture doesn’t zoom in as normal so it’s pretty obvious the JPEGS and RAW files aren’t uploading properly. 50% of the time it works where it takes hours for the full resolution to appear but the other 50% of the time the files just aren’t being transferred fully into the ipad. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    I’ve been working with Lightroom Classic for years and I’m thinking about moving to CC, so I was curious to watch this video. Unfortunately it didn’t answer the questions I came for. I have 12-14 years of photos in my Lightroom Classic catalog, pretty organized and edited. I wonder how I will accomplish that in CC. This video doesn’t speak at all about how to manage files (other than the very basic importing). Where do you keep your photo archive? Is it on that old laptop? But then they are all unedited, right? Do you use the CC cloud? I think I have too many files to keep them there, so in that case, I need to segment my storage. Maybe just keeping the picks in Lightroom. Also, I’m wondering what you do with your pictures after you’ve edited them. I keep mine in Lightroom, all in one place, but it seems to me like you have files here and there. Where do you keep your picks?

    • @imaaronross
      @imaaronross  Před 3 lety

      This is definitely a different approach. I don't keep a catalog of my edits anymore. I keep my original raws and the final edited jpgs but I delete the edits out of Lightroom once I'm done. It is not something everyone is comfortable with but I realized that I've gone back to previous edits less than 5 times in the 7 years I've been making photos.

    Hi Aaron. It´s an interesting workflow, I have not doubt. But, I`d like to make a pair of questions. When you finish your photo, what do you do with the original raw files? • @imaaronross
      @imaaronross  Před 3 lety +1

      Since I back up the original raw files to my local hard drives and back up to the cloud on Dropbox, I delete them out of Lightroom. As for the adobe cloud, I don't use it. I don't sync anything from the iPad to the cloud so I am not limited by the low storage limits.

    • @joseluiscanovasliza3555
      @joseluiscanovasliza3555 Před 3 lety +4

      I understand, but forgive me for insisting. You say that once you have the original raw on your local drives and in dropbox, you delete them from lightroom. When you do that double back up, do you do it with all the raw files, or only with the ones you choose to work with in lightroom ?. Currently, when I get home, I empty my card in lightroom classic on the Mac, I synchronize it with the adobe cloud, and later I work the photos on the Ipad. This makes the files I work on on the ipad, the smart thumbnails that lightroom creates, and in this way I do not consume much space in the cloud. but if I'm honest, I'm looking for a system that allows me to work only on the iPad, since after the years, I have realized that in lightroom classic I save a lot of raw files, just in case I ever work on them again, but the truth is that this situation rarely occurs. In short, I seek to minimize the system and the files that I save. That is the reason I have looked at your workflow

    Super helpful, but what do you then do with the originals? Do you keep all of them or eventually just keep the edited versions you exported out of Lightroom?

    • @imaaronross
      @imaaronross  Před 2 lety

      All of my originals are kept. The workflow has been updated a little since last year but I know have a NAS that syncs to Dropbox. So all originals are stored locally on the NAS with redundancy and duplicated in the cloud. Updated workflow video coming soon!

    How do upload all of my photos to the Lightroom cloud so that my iPad does not run out of storage! I have done couple of shoots now and my iPad is almost full! Please help

    • @imaaronross

      I have always run into that issue with the Lightroom Cloud so I do not use it anymore. I offload my photos to Dropbox and my local storage to clear up the space on my iPad.

      Accurate masking, burning and dodging with apple pencil 2? Maybe. iPad works best as supplement for mac products like for annotations and maybe some creativity like using procreate like making art with real photos

      Portability! If I’m travelling I do all the work on the iPad as described here. When I get home everything gets transferred to Lightroom Classic for further work, in particular printing.

    Just wondering, for your ssd drive backup, are those images viewable if you plug that same drive into a PC, or are they still locked into the iOS ecosystem?

    • @jpegchris
      @jpegchris Před 3 lety +1

      I have the same setup including SSD model. The images are viewable on other deceives such as a PCs or anything that recognises JPEG’s/TIFF/RAW files etc. I initially thought that once I’d used the SSD on iPad iOS that it would become formatted for Apple devices only and that I’d be locked in, but that wasn’t the case.

      Depends on the file system on your drive. iPad reads Mac and windows drives

      @@imaaronross nice one. I use the iPad a lot. It's my primary (I don't own my own MacBook yet. Currently use the one from work) I'll check out the link later. Thanks for sharing.

    Are there any iOS or Android apps, that allow selecting by rating the photos directly on the SD-card, without having to copy them to the tablet?

    • @charlesb.2585
      @charlesb.2585 Před 3 lety

      I am looking for the same thing. I often start culling on my DSLR by assigning star ratings on the camera. I would like to use those camera-inserted star ratings to determine which photos I import off the SD card. There are many ways to view the images right on the SD card from the iPad, but unless you use an EXIF app and look at the EXIF on each SD card image, I have not found a way to easily see the star ratings on the SD card images. Some of the wildlife and game camera systems , like Moultrie, make simple SD card reader dongles that allow you to quickly review the images on an SD card, but I don;t believe they show star ratings, since the SD cards are coming right out of an automated wild game camera.

    Can I make and edit time lapse videos?

    • @imaaronross
      @imaaronross  Před 3 lety

      I am not an expert in this area but I believe there are ways to do it. In theory, you could edit all of the images in Lightroom and then import them into LumaFusion with a 1 photo per frame and export as a video from there. A bit of a workaround but technically possible.
