- In this video you can watch me hand weaving a danish chord bench from start to finish.
Designed and made by Nick James in his workshop at Mushroom Works in Newcastle upon Tyne, UK
Thank you for watching - this is one of the the first few videos I have made for CZcams - keen to hear what you think and if I should do more!...

thank you so much for each detail you shared with us
Beautiful!
I sincerely appreciate the detailed view of the process. I have never woven Danish cord and this video makes it incredibly easy to understand. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Exceptional, thank you.
I was traveling in India last year & I saw these types of cord weaving there too.
It's amazing how two different cultures have so much similarities 🤩
Thanks for showing this! I’ve been wanting to try this for a while and seeing this makes me feel like I can take it on
greta - I would love to see the results!
the only video on youtube that showed me what it said it would !! thanks alot . you got a subscriber !!
Your poor fingers took a beating on the weaving. The attention to the rounding of the frame woodwork is beautiful. Really well done and inspirational.
Thank you very much for showing how to do this🍀
exelente ,gracias por tanta magia , Dios lo bendiga maestro
Have followed you on Instagram for a few years, and finally I'm building my own papercprd chair.
ohhh YES!!!!
Good job, I like it 👍
Hermoso trabajo 👏 saludos desde ciudad de México
Beatiful is argentina jujuy !!!
Buen truco el asunto ese de las alcayatas
😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Would love to see some more videos from you! Do you remember roughly how much cord you used for this piece?
This is great- would you mind telling that the depth , width and height of the bench? Thank you!
Putting those nails in looks like good ‘apprentice’ work :)
🤣 yes - there are rather a lot of them!
Looks great ! Planning on triyng this on a stool ! Do you drive all the nails in once you're done weaving ?
Excellent work, where can you buy this danish cord?
Hello, i live in denmark and some of the very iconic pieces around here indeed Feature danish Cord. We had our chair re-weaved recently. But say...is it possible there are variations to this pattern? I have seen with 30mm and 15mm nail spacing...
Good job clean and elegant and the wood work is amazing in type of wood and details of excusion I've just loved it , but for a beginner I missed the begin of second step when you jumped into it all of a sudden when you didnt leave any detail in step 1 though you didnt show how you've fixed the cord in the 1st. place in all the steps and you started from the middle covering and ( garnishing ) the rim of the bench .
Is there a preference for laced vs. unlaced with seats?
Muito bom , muito bom, muito bom..... Sensacional 👏👏👏
Qual a distância entre os pregos?
You title the video ‘how to’ but leave out all the details. How to determine the distance between the hook nail, how to fix the ends of the cord, etc. Really shame as the end result looks really great.
^THIS^
This looks so satisfying to watch. I bet it’s a lot more work. How many hours does it take to complete something like this??
Thanks - the weaving takes around 3 hours
Thank you for this! Do the nails have to be L-shaped? or do you think ordinary nails would do? (hard to source those types of nails where I'm from)
You could do it with normal nails as long as you bend it close to 90 degrees after driving them in. Might want to use wire nails for such applications
are thes drilled holes or markings?
This is awesome! I love the look of the Danish paper cord, but do you know if it comes in any different shades of colors? Also is this somewhat stain resistant?
How long did this take?
I'd like to know what cordage you're using. Your work is top-notch man. Thank you for sharing.
It's called paper cord
It’s danish cord (unlaced)
@@NickJamesFurnitureMaker Ah ha, Danish cord then. Okay, sounds like I should be able to pick that up pretty easy. Thank you!
Éste hilo soporta la interperie?
Hello, where did you buy the nails?
Hello Nick, incredible work. Can you tell me the name or type of cord please?
Thanks - this is danish cord
Se podrá hacer con hilo de PVC? 🤭
How much spacing for the nail
Hello Nick a beautiful outcome indeed. Can you tell me the mail spacing measurements please?
30mm on the long rails - 8mm on the short rails
@@NickJamesFurnitureMaker much appreciated . I’ll give it a try , soon.
Hello samwel Brendan from Uganda your answer it will help me too
Am waiting also to see the spacing
when i look at this i still see my grandfather weaving but he did not use nails but knotted the ropes but before i could learn it i bacame♿️😪😪
is that just a normal nail?
And how do we build this nice bench please :)
It’s coming - make you have subscribed + you will be first to see it…
Merhaba delik aralıkları kaç mm
What size is the cord, if I may ask?
it's 3mm diameter and around 300m long...
@@NickJamesFurnitureMaker thank you for a quick reply, love your work!
Can you please tell rope material?
Danish cord
Hi 😊 Can you tell me the name of nail please?
L shaped nails…
Great video, but as a viewer I’d love the option of a version without the music. Not a fan of it and find it quite repetitive. I think your work is fascinating enough without it! Just my opinion. Thank you for sharing your work with us!
Would have watched… looked interesting… but that MUSIC!
Great work, really bad music.
Чем такую музыку бестолковую слушать, лучше пояснили и показали каким образом закрепляется под сиденьем!!! 🤔🤦♀️
Ничего не понятно ! 🤦♀️🤷♀️😔👎👎👎👎👎
Dude needs the learn how to edit.
I do
Beautiful!
