  • Garrett Bush of the Ultimate Browns Show reacts to Pro Football Focus identifying Jamari Thrash as a potential playmaker for the Cleveland Browns at WR. PFF believes that Thrash has elite separating skills and believes Browns QB Deshaun Watson will be able to use the young rookie in the 2024 season. Make sure to subscribe to the Ultimate Cleveland Sports Show for all the latest Cleveland Browns News. Get the scoop on the rising star of the Cleveland Browns as unveiled by PFF on the Ultimate Cleveland Sports Show. Stay updated on the latest Cleveland Browns news and NFL draft 2024 prospects!
On day three of the 2024 NFL draft, the Cleveland Browns added more talent to the wide receiver room, selecting Louisville wide receiver Jamari Thrash in the fifth round. Cleveland is loading up on offensive weapons this off-season, hoping that Deshaun Watson can return to form and take the team on a deep playoff run in 2024.
Thrash is a good player, and one thing to note about some of the drop concerns is that almost half his career drops came this year, including several in the final month of the season after he broke his wrist. Some context is needed for that point before fans start thinking routine drops are a thing with Thrash, which is just not the case.
Thrash is a lighter wide receiver who could add some weight, but he plays pretty well against man coverage due to his willingness to play physically. He has a smaller catch radius with shorter arms and can struggle to make contested catches consistently against bigger defensive backs.
Here is my in-depth breakdown of everything you need to know about new Browns wide receiver Jamari Thrash. Jamari Thrash spent his first four collegiate seasons at Georgia State before playing for Louisville in 2023. Last year, with the Cardinals, Thrash had 62 receptions for 848 yards and six touchdowns and averaged 13.7 yards per catch. Thrash’s best season came in 2022 while still at Georgia State when he also had 62 catches for 1,123 yards, seven touchdowns, and 18.1 yards per reception.
Last season, PFF gave Thrash a 77.6 overall grade and a 78.4 receiving grade with Louisville. One intriguing aspect of his game that likely attracted the Browns is his run blocking, which is higher than expected. PFF gave Thrash a 62.2 run-blocking grade in 2023 after he received a 69.3 with Georgia State in 2022. The Browns have started collecting great route runners, and that continues with the pick of Jamri Thrash. He has great body control and is explosive off the line of scrimmage with nice long speed, though he lacks true elite top speed. Thrash is a nuanced route runner who can throttle up and throttle down to create separation consistently.
Last year, Thrash averaged nearly seven yards after catch per reception and is a smooth runner with the ball in his hands. He runs in the high 4.4s, so he won’t run away from everyone, but he has enough speed to create explosive plays. He fits in with what the Browns like to do as a guy who can get open and create after the catch.
Like most of the picks in this draft, Jamari Thrash won’t likely be asked to do much with the current roster and talent at the position. However, if the team has injuries at the position, I believe Thrash could step in and be productive as a rookie. Thrash has a ton of playing experience, and though he will need to adjust to the level of play in the NFL, his skill set will translate and do so early.
Thrash brings alignment versatility, which was something that Andrew Berry coveted during his time running the Browns. Just like the past couple of years with other rookies, Thrash won’t be asked to do much but should be a solid contributor in the future.

Guys aren’t running a 4.3 10-15 yards into their routes. The speed will come into play when breaking away for the td. There his separation in routes will come into play.

Thrash uses his hands a lot. I'm not sure what highlights they are watching. I've seen a lot of hands catches from Thrash.

I was thinking the same thing! Not sure where that came from. He had good hands until his last season & he had an injury that hindered his ability to catch. Even if he was a “body catcher”, go look at Puka Nakua’s highlights from college. I loved Nakua’s size speed & athleticism to go with his stats, but he was a body catcher which worried me. Obviously, it was a non-issue as Nakua had a historical rookie season. Not saying Thrash is gonna be the next Nakua, simply that if Thrash was/is a body catcher (which he isn’t IMO) he can still succeed in the NFL.

Man listen all that 4.3 sound good look good. Sub 4.5 is plenty fast for any wr it’s how you move in shorts spaces. The explosiveness in and out of cuts that acceleration that suddenness trumps all else because it plays into route running nuances straight line speed isn’t enough that’s why Schwartz was ass. Ppl fall in love wit these numbers that mean nothing if the nuances of route running and if the receiver isn’t savy enough to win the mental game when route running knowing how to set them up over and over. I bet coop runs like a 4.5 these days but he one of the best route runners cuz he’s smart and still quick in short spaces mane

We'll see how Tillman does with a year of experience. He was a third-round pick. Bell is looking like a bust and Schwartz was a reach. No amount of developing was going to help him. The Browns have also started 9 different QBs the past three seasons. It will be interesting to see if Watson develops some rapport with his WRs if he gets to play a full season.

Don’t you have to actually plat the game to be a “rising star”?

    • @justincole1474
      @justincole1474 Před měsícem

Rising star in the sense he's gaining momentum as a player being talked about. His star is rising because people are talking about him as a gem or a steal because his skill set is both a good fit for the team and easily translatable according to a few former players and pff stat tracking calling him elite. If the stats come and he has a few explosive plays thats the formula to a superstar. Doesn't work out often but it's a fact that these indicators have absolutely been shown to give birth to stars lol so, rising star, first step is get people talking, second is to prove it. Worth keeping an eye on. If he has a stellar preseason it'll be talked about non stop. Just look at that reciever we had that broke the record for receiving yards in the preseason. Heard about him till halfway through the season. Just watch lol

That texans playoff loss was BAD...😂, yet yall acting like the browns are going to be fine after that.
Yall must be delusional, NEVER won the division.
Yall dont have joe burrows number, yall had brian callahans number. Cincinnati needs a pass rush thats it our defense is still live and we got VB back G stone battle wilson pratt who were playoff stars and in a super bowl experience on the back end stop it.
Deshaun watson will not make it 16-18 games. Yall relying on jerry juedy at WR. Nick chubb being the same after that injury not happening.
Yall got good guys on the roster but kevin stefanski aint it. Deshaun came for the money 💰.
Kevin stefanski didn't deserve the coach of the year demeco ryans did. Yall had a better way more experienced roster than the texans and got beat in the playoffs like that myles garret got packed up....😂 HORRIBLE coaching decision to rest players and not go into the playoffs hot like the bengals did and had success. Say what yall want about joe burrow injury probe whatever.....yall fear burrow being healthy and upright because yall know its a wrap fornthe AFC NORTH a division we won many times even with marvin while yall never won it. Keep yall fingers crossed deshauns going to be the texans deshaun this year 😂 hes going to get smacked and be out and jamies winston is going to be throwing picks out there. Or yall could win the north and have some real succes this year every team is one injury away from season being over. Yet history says yall arent a real threat to any fully healthy afc north team and will morenthan likey finish last.😂
Sn....joe burrow hears all this " the browns have their number crap" we will see once bro put 50 on yall with a new offense not brian callahan same offense and his dad was yall o line coach so it add a up he knows his sons philosophy because it more than likey came from him thats why yall had some recent succes against the bengals, yea it sucked but never meant anything still won the division afc north championship and got to play in a superbowl.
I remember when yall got odell these pundits said yall were going to go before us because of that WRONG 😂
