Rinse is at the centre of a vast musical community. As genres, artists and scenes evolve and fragment, so Rinse remains locked to the pulse of the underground. Inspiring and nurturing people to create the music that they want to hear, the results speak for themselves.
Est.1994. Transmitting uncompromising and innovative music out of its East London heartland, it started life as a pirate station established by a group of friends wanting to share the music that inspired them - Zábava
U have to get Trim on here👊
Dj argue is perfect for these interviews, can tell man’s being following the game from the start, appreciate knowledge like this.
Fully agree
Facts 💯
Yeah you’re right but he misses things out, like discussing Dizzee & Tinchy in Roll Deep. & not asking Riko about the cemetery warriors etc
@@mrlemon8179 you are so right bro that would of been decent, maybe he should say who hes got coming up and get people to shout him with questions
@@mrlemon8179 it’s very hard to fit everything in!
Large up Argue. Not many people could hold this Dan down for an interview. Smashed it
I really miss the Rinse days uno.. Missed calls, Text's, Shout outs...it was a real vibe back then. we didnt even know what the MC's looked like...
I know what you mean but started seeing what they looked like at the under 18’s raves & then when sidewinder etc started doing up visuals
another class podcast, rikodan once spilt a drink over me at a rave in leeds and didnt say sorry because i was wearing a Germany football T
Hahaha quality
"Lovely motor that..Big bittaa whip that see me in that" 🏎🚘
Best Bit on the DVD 😀
Are Ya Lying Int Ya
Riko has one of the biggest voices since Flowdan, cool as fuck to see him in an interview for once.
There were a few MCs that brought that dark street element and explicitness to Jungle MCing. Obviously the godfathers MC Trigga, MC Bassman & MC Spyda, then there was Riko, Bucky Ranks and Eksman. I always loved that Sound System element to Jungle music!! You can't beat the Ragga Twins!! Proper!!!
From time Riko was sparring with Eksman & Herbzie and holding it up on Pressure FM you knew he was a don. I would still like to see him on the DNB circuit such a talent!! His journey has been immense. Still blasting his Pressure FM and Cyndicut FM sets from the 90s.
Most definitely bro and it’s such a blessings having your channel bro having all the them sets. Keep it up bro.
@@DJRudieB Big up bruva!! I've been listening to Riko since 1995. He also used to do pirate radio in Manchester as a teenager in the mid 90s. His early sets with Eksman & Herbzie are worthy of listening to. He's been a talent all along the way. The Rinse FM 91.8 days is when he met Wiley, back when it was SS Crew with DJ Target and DJ Trend (RIP).
Pure nostalgia your channel mate! Big up!
Riko did a little bit on the Skibadee tribute show on Rinse/Kool fm, still sounds top of the top on jungle/dnb 👌🏽
@@glaze1984 That's where he learnt his craft. Most of the Grime lot started on Jungle, Wiley, Riko, Breeze, GodsGift (Pepsi), Maxwell D, Major Ace (Ace), Flowdan, Bruza (Chigga D), Durrty Goodz, Triple Threat, Hitman Hyper, Storming...the list goes on.
I'm just seeing and binging these now. So much respect for Argue's knowledge. The questions are fantastic, it's so good to see someone from the culture setting up the story telling. Was bored by all the plants put in position that weren't actually there.
From 14.00 in had me in stitches. The way he described Wiley there was spot on. Whenever I hear riko spit he takes me back to my youth of jungle 1993/4. Love what dj argues doing with this too. Love listening to everyone’s history take on grime. 💖💖💖🙏🏾🥳
Always loved Riko. Went to his 30th birthday bash rave back in the day
Love Riko's honesty on here.. he seems like a cool guy..
One thing all these episodes have in common is that WILEY is the main topic and discussed the most. Just goes to show without Wiley there would be no grime scene he literally is the God of the scene. Need to get Wiley on this. Even without Wiley they would be no BBK.
Absolutely agree with you on this. Love Wiley and what he’s done for this genre 🥳💖🙏🏾
Have to disagree. Grime would have still been created without wiley. It was written for wiley to be at the epicentre of the genre, however if you know the foundations of UK urban music you would have to acknowledge Jamaican Dance hall music as the only influence for UK urban music. Sound system culture is responsible for the birth of Grime music, in fact all of UK Urban music. Jamaicans were the pioneers of toasting riddims along side the dj. Super Cat etc set pace for UK Urban music. Check out original Rankin form jamaica is similar to flirta d. Buskin hosting and lyricism is influenced from Jamaican dancehall MCs. Ask any sound system guy from the 70s; it's facts. Uk Urban music should pay a percent of royalties earned back to jamaican charities out of appreciation for the culture, whether into the music industry, farming, housing development etc.
That's a bit far. Jon E Cash and that were about well before Wiley, So Solid, also a lot of people were doing bits around that time. Would Wiley have even become Wiley if Dizzee stayed rolling with Nasty Crew and didn't shift over to Roll Deep? As Target said he was the Lionel Messi and when he linked up with them they're whole sound changed.
@@ANineOne you mean Danny said that when Dizzee changed the whole style changed. However, Wiley had the power to get Dizzee noticed. Dizzee was always talented but Wiley was that big brother figure who took him under his wing. It's like Eminem and Dr Dre. With Dre, Eminem would never have become what he is.
It’s 09:45am on a Saturday I’m sat in bed bored, thinking if this was 2001-2005 I could just flick through radio & there would be something sick on to listen to, that was what it was like then, fuck I miss those days
YOU KNOW THAT WAS BANG OUT OF ORDER
CROSS THA LINE AND U CROSS THE BORDA
YOU CAN ASK SKEPTA IN’AYA CORNER
Riko always been my fav from Roll Deep

Great interview and interviewer (Argue) of the early progression of the grime scene. We need Wiley on here to give us an insight and some stories I’m sure!

@@mad-pit3832 huh?
Get God’s Gift on ere ASAP‼️
I can just imagine some Mother of two randomly turning up to the studio saying to them lot,
"Is this Roll Deep crew? Because I bumped into Wiley 45 minutes ago after dropping my kids off at school and he gave me this address and said I'm in."
Followed by like a couple of Postman and a Lollipop lady lol!!

26:20 that was Trim lol

51:00 is there anything you want to do? Man needs to run that assault course competition with Chronik still! 😂 a greazy grime album with cemetery warriors, skeppy Will chronik would be gassed but I know it ain’t happening
They should get one of the bloodline guys on here. It would be cool to hear about the Meridian/BBK/Bloodline thing the Roll Deep beef, LOTM, German Whip, Big H’s influence in the scene… they’re very much unsung heroes in this ting
I can’t lie, Big H gets given too much credit! He was good but come on….
🙌🏿

Doogz used to spin these lot on a regs
Agreed!! Nothing but respect for him and his music. It's criminal how not many people talk about him. But to be fair Wiley has said he thinks Goodz is one of the best.
warlord
35:35 he admitted lethal won
I wish he had have asked dates so we knew the time period when he got out of pen and done the first rave what year was it sort of thing, must have been 2003
Enjoyed this whole thing. Get Discarda on one plz
22:15 to 22.21..was that a yes then ?
New Jack city 🔥
Diamonds Nightspot, Rosina Street, Homerton. The best times!! That was one ghetto venue.
Nitty, gritty
I done a track with Riko Dan still on his sleeping giant album. Hol tigth dugs. And first bookings were all Brighton ways. Then hertsfordshire and Bedfordshire. Hitchin etc. Theres loads of Crews that never got any limelight or credit and all the big grime crews. nasty crew and all them copied. even jammer copied alot of these south unknown crews. who were doing gigs and doing bookings. like SickNess Crew. etc. I was huge part of spreading grime about. ask anyone who knows. ask Dj trendz. ask big H. ask Skepta. ask anyone.asl Gordon Geeneus a@ rinse. ask Wiley. They werent the originators either. Maybe jon E cash. as he had Dubset/ 8 bar and Sublow genres before dark garage or grime wa even named. I got a list of names grime was called before it was grime.. I remember roll deep lining up in events. while i walked past VIP. They were just like normal youths.
Interesting stuff bro
HOWS HE NOT MENTIONING TRIM 2003 - 2006 HE WAS THE EPITOME OF ROLL DEEP
Ringer for kid cudi
I used to rate him, but just like b live/evil b they both stopped doing dnb and jumped on garage when that was popping. You can find interviews of them biggin up garage and saying how much they liked it more than dnb.
But as soon as garage wasnt popping anymore they went back to the dnb promoters begging to be back on their flyers. There is even one with b live from 05/06 saying he liked jungle but dint like the way dnb was going and that it was to electronic with no breakbeats.
Now he literally markets himself as a jump up dnb mc, the most electronic robotic software based style of music out there. I guess it shows not to listen to anything they say about music, if the money was write these boys would be in a boy band tomorrow.
Riko was never a garage mc
@@marcp3788 Then why did he mc at countless sidewinder ukg events.
He even said himself he was away during garage
@@mad-pit3832it wasn't garage anymore when he was booked at sidewinder, it was grime at that point
Just to clarify, is Jerome Gods Gift and is Jason J2K?
Yes
Lock off de bloodclart place
Could of asked him about Trim bullying him
Trim bullies everyone tbh and riko would deny it
22:16 can’t be serious wtf
The interviewers accent does not suite his face at all and it pisses me off.
