I'm a bit confused by this video. I thought that Cuenca was a location and described the chemical preparation of the materials. I thought that the weive options were brisa and llano! I think that llano can make for a tighter wieve. However, I thought that the Cuenca region made relatively cheap Panama hats!
Really! If you are looking for quality Panama hats, it would be better to specify if it is Montecristi herringbone superfino. Light does not go thru. And Montecristi is not in Cuenca. It is on the opposite site of Guayaquil. Of course, there are quality Panama hats in Cuenca as well. In general, any weave pattern can be fine or extrafine. What defines the weave quality is the mesh density. High quality Montecristi one of has the finest weave. Anything more than 250 per cm2 is very good. Anything over 400 per cm2 is priceless. Of course, there are a ton of Montecristi-like hats. Check also the eye of the hat.
@@morsmagne just noticed the comments as I came across thus video. Just for the purpose of translation Brisa - breeze Cuenca - like a water stream Llano - shallow or grass.
It is because many "foreigners" (Americans) building the Panama Canal wore those hats, and people tried to imitate them. So in English, for the casual individual that lacks knowledge of the historical facts, it is usually called Panama hat, and has nothing to do with that country. And it is true that is not the way it is called in Spanish. I believe they can be called jipijapa, but I guess English speakers would not guess how to pronounce this word.
He works in a panama hat factory but wears a baseball cap. Yeesh.
I was under the impression that the Cuenca hats were not as good. Cheaper made with the thicker straw!

And the person who advertised this hat was the president Theodore Roosevelt.
Terribly produced video. I wouldn't want it representing my company.
