Defeat of the Gorkhas and split of Garhwal Kingdom
At the war's end on 21 April 1815, as a result of the Treaty of Sugauli, the British annexed half of the Kingdom of Garhwal (Pauri Garhwal) and converted the other half (Tehri Garhwal) into a subsidiary princely state.
The Treaty of Sugauli, signed in 1815, played a significant role in the history of Dehradun. The treaty was between the British East India Company and the Kingdom of Nepal, which had been engaged in the Anglo-Nepalese War (1814-1816). As part of the treaty, Nepal ceded several territories, including the region of Garhwal, to the British.
Dehradun, which was part of the Garhwal region, thus came under British control. The British took possession of these lands to expand their influence in the region and to secure their northern frontier. The Gorkhas, who were the dominant force in Nepal, had earlier conquered the Garhwal region, but with the Treaty of Sugauli, they lost control over it to the British.
The war ended with the signing of the Treaty of Sugowli where almost a third was ceded to British East India company. The British got Dehradun in 1816 and colonised Landour and Mussoorie in 1827-1828.
Dehradun, historically, has had a mixed heritage due to various rulers and influences over the centuries. It is not strictly part of the Garhwal region in a cultural or traditional sense. Here's a brief overview of its historical affiliations:
1. **Ancient and Medieval Periods**: Dehradun was influenced by various dynasties, including the Mauryas and the Katyuris. It also saw influences from the Gupta Empire and later local rulers.
2. **Gorkha Invasion**: In the early 19th century, the Gorkhas from Nepal invaded and took control of parts of the region, including Dehradun.
3. **British Period**: After the Anglo-Nepalese War and the Treaty of Sugauli in 1815, Dehradun was ceded to the British. The British established Dehradun as part of the North-Western Provinces, and it became an important administrative and educational center.
4. **Modern Era**: Post-independence, Dehradun became part of the state of Uttar Pradesh and later, in 2000, it became the capital of the newly formed state of Uttarakhand.
Dehradun's cultural identity is therefore quite distinct and influenced by a variety of historical events and rulers, making it different from the purely Garhwali culture and traditions.

Paise kamane k liye majburi me pahadi logo ko palayan karke Delhi, Mumbai, bangalore jese shehro ki taraf jana padta hai lekin ab halaat badal rahe hai kyuki log online freelancing vagara se b gaon me rehkar b acha paisa kama sakte hai. Aur jivan me sukoon k sath paisa kama sako to boht achi bat hai. Varna paise kamane k liye health gawana kaha ki samajdari hai.

Dehradun has a serious problem in independent plotted flats like in Karanpur, Adhoiwala ,etc.I stayed from 1976 to 1980.Even in the plot no 19/8 Rajpur Road opposite to Chayadeep cinema hall ,I faced the problem. How is it now?

Subhash Bhai I watch your videos daily, personally for me Dehradun is probably one of the best cities to live in India. I lived in Chandigarh for 3 years as well, and I have my family in Delhi and Jalandhar too. But Dehradun is something else. Hopefully I will move to Dehradun one day❤️
