- This superb looking machine belong's to British motorcross racer Martin Reid. As far as I am aware it is a 1980 YZ 250 G model and this video and pictures were taken when I spied it in the paddock at the recent Scottish Classic Motorcycle Racing Club's Round 9 championship event held at Plumpton Penrith on Sunday 14th of October 2018.
One of the best air cooled mx bikes ever made.
I don't care for the gold rims it's A dirt bike, I have A 79 and I love it,it's one of my favorite besides my yz 465 and others
I bought a new one in 1980, my buddy bought a new 465 yz same year trying to out do me, he was shocked when the first time we drag raced and I beat him. It took him six months of re-jetting, re-gearing and tuning until he could finally beat me and then just barely ( less than 2 bike lengths to 80mph). That was the only bike that ever beat me in a drag race. I beat at least six or seven other 400 + cc bikes and no 250 even came close. These things were really fast against anything available in 1980.
Great work. The bike is unreal.
dont remember my 250 g having a twin leading shoe front brake ? yellow plastics was american ? lovely looking bike, wish i still had mine , i paid £1050 brand new at the end of 1979 it came with a great spares kit, piston rings, gaskets, carb jets . love the videos keep them coming.
