I actually remember this, even though I was only 10 at the time! I happen to still live in Thunder Bay, Canada today, and this was quite a popular victory around here. This one happened to be Finland's only gold of the competition. It was popular because Thunder Bay has a good-sized Finnish community, and it was only later that I realized how significant that was, considering I'm part Finnish myself. I remember talking to my now-late Finnish grandfather about this close to this time about it.
I was 11 years at the time, preparing to go to school at 8.30 am. I stayed just the while to see Mika jump the win for Finland. After that, took my ski's on and went to school. For some reason this is a special moment for me and Finland.
