Because Billy Gibbons played this song with an alternate tuning; tuning the A string down to a G. Then one can play the third fret B-flat to open G pull off that is the back-bone of the entire song.

Marty, Billy Gibbon's recorded this in open G. He may pull it off live in standard tuning, but go back and listen to the record. Then try it yourself in open G. I think you will get it.
What is that godly looking golden divided by 13 amp in the background, the looks alone of that amp are enough to make a guitarist get chills

For playing the C thing: just move the G up to C and play the same thing (requires some stretch of the fingers).
In the move to C: Play the low C + the chords without moving your hand: you can put your pinky on the 8th fret C (low E string), while barring the 3-4-5 strings on the fifth frethwith your index, then play : C (pinky) then middle strings of the C chord, then the Em7; sounds great (better!). + you are then playing the same thing as while playing G.
That's how I learned it as well.
This is fun to play! The more ya learn, the easier it gets to learn even more...

Turn the A string to G and see what happens. That's a trick.
That what you do is far too complicated. Rock'n Roll is easy. :-)
You can make it more easily and it sounds the same.

Yes, you can do it and it sounds pretty good. Except that Billy Gibbons doesn't do it when he plays this song live.

Anyone saying it doesn't sound like ZZ top hasn't listened the original song "Jesus just left chicago". AC/DC straight up ripped them off, it's exactly alike, and Tres Hombres was 1973 and Dirty Deeds wasn't until 1975.
