That flop is a check-behind against a BB-defense range nearly all the time, especially with Holmes' particular hand. I give him a ton of credit for his play on the river, though. It would have been very easy to take a free showdown with such a showdownable hand, but he recognized he was likely beat and that was a bad river for Aldemir. @@pamc1997 I think that unwatchable poker is still unwatchable, no matter the stakes. LATB and Hustler Live both have time chips and time extensions no matter the stakes, and there are frequently single pots in those games that are 100k-300k, and I have seen many pots higher than that. 1 minute per hand decision, and each player has a preset amount of additional extension chips. Tournament poker has become far less watchable, it's just not as interesting anymore because players frequently tank 2-5 minutes per hand decision. Time extension chips would be game changers for viewers.

In this exact situation one can say they know exactly what they would've done and that's check back the river. His big bluffs on the river earlier is why he got called. If you don't alter your play it will be noticed and you'll suffer for it.

I think it was obvious that this was Holmes strategy from the start of the day when they were three handed. He moved all-in frequently and 3-bet light. He knew that the was the weakest player and he knew he would lose quickly if he allowed Koray Aldemir to control the action and play small ball. So Holmes decided to force Aldemir to make tough decisions and gamble. It's not a bad strategy when you are outclassed. Holmes actually made life difficult for Aldemir. Unfortunately, he took a bad spot in that last hand. The all-in is a bad bet with negative EV. 90% of the time when he gets called, he is beat. So why bet if you only get called by hands that beat you. He should have checked or possible thin value bet for 40M.

Whilst I like the shot clock in some other tourneys, I think giving them time to tank here is fine. Every decision is worth an insane amount of real world money.

The constant tanking is killing televised poker. Even though this was the final hand of the tournament it still took them over ten minutes. No hand should take that long!

Normally I’d agree with you but there’s four million on the line. If tanking were ever justified, this is the time

The whole thing was like this, not sure when all this tanking got started but it was unbearable this year. Watch next year for introduction of a shot clock

Holmes what a run! The shove was understandable having top pair, blocking the straight. Congrats to Aldemir

Knew Holmes would bust on a bluff, but amazing run for him no doubt. Guy bluffed more hands than I ever saw in a WSOP. Congrats to Aldemir!
