@@JaneDoe-nq8hz Biles IS an athlete. Quitting the finals was an athlete move. She knew she was gonna fall on Floor, bars and maybe Beam. So many falls would totally cost her a medal, and a Champion refuses to lose medals. She put the team to fight and get the silver, so they did.
Plus she recovered in time for Beam aiming for the bronze, which she got. Then, she became the most medalled American gymnast (tied with Miller in number, but she has more golds)

Simone Biles lost her air on vault during Women's Team Final in Tokyo.
All of you criticizing simone for withdrawing by saying she was being selfish would have said the same thing if she stayed in the team final and cost the team a medal. Yes, I too wish this channel would fix the audio sync and upload more full events, but that gives you no excuse to criticize simone. She made the right choice and you will never achieve what she has. A true gymnastics fan would understand her stance, especially when all other gymnasts (including KHORKINA) supported her.
They don’t even understand what it means for khorkina to say she supports Simone’s decision, which is why they have no business sharing their opinions about this.

I don't see a connection between "mental health" and "the twisties" or "skill confusion". Biles suffered from a condition that many athletes temporarily suffer from that is independent of what "mental health" normally means.
I think she honestly got twisties, because there is no way she was gonna afford losing so many Gold Medals Just to be famous, which she already is. But the term "mental health" was a better way to tell the story, simplifying and making a stand.

If a tennis player retires from a match due to an ankle injury, they are not going to pontificate about the importance of "mental health". In my view presenting a neural condition as a "mental health" issue is doing the mental health cause a disservice because it creates the impression that people suffering from mental health issues are confused in their thinking, (which is normally not the cause). So if she wanted to "make a stand", I'd say it only worked for those who were on her side already. Anyone thinking critically, would be pushed further away, rather than being invited to take real mental health issues seriously. (FWIW, I'm not saying that she doesn't have real mental health issues, I'm just saying that those did not stop her from participating).

what replacement athlete? No one replaced Biles. If you mean alternate, no, alternates don't get medals at the Olympics.

Nope, alternates are sent home 24 hours before qualification, so after they left and someone gets hurt, gets covid or isn't mentally ready to compete then it's bad luck! The alternates don't get a medal since they didn't compete, unless if someone did get hurt and a alternate was their to replace them!
Yes. The format for the games was 4-3-3. Four team members. Three per event. Top three scores counted. The benched gymnast in the remaining events competed in her place. That gymnast would still have received a medal whether she competed in the other events or not.

Is it unfortunate she pulled out? Of course. But it’s more unfortunate that people like you don’t understand why she did it.

How is she selfish? I have done gymnastics and the twisties is a real thing. If she had competed she would either hurt herself or have been unable to do any trick. I definantly agree that Suni Lee needs to be given the most attention, but biles is not selfish.
no, she would be selfish if she had continued competing knowing that she would not produce good scores, making US lose medals. She knew her team could do it without her.
