Most Americans have a passion for guns.
Most Australians have a passion for hating guns.
Most Aussies have never held or even seen a gun that wasn't on a cops holster and most have never even heard a real gun shot. There have been No massacres in Australia since our harsh gun control in 1996. And From 2013-2018 there were only 22 police officers in the whole country that were killed by gunshot on the job. These are just a few reasons behind Australias very strong hatred and negative views on guns.

As Jim Jefferies said, "You just brought a gun to a drone fight."
So in Australia guns are legal. They're not banned. What they are is regulated. Now it slightly varies state to state because we are a federation but basically you need to get a licence. To do this you need to undertake a firearm safety course. There are different weapon categories. You need the correct licence. You need to get a permit to acquire a firearm. This will be checked against your licence, your reasons stated for wanting the firearm and a bunch of other things. Once you then get the permit you can get the firearm. It then has to be stored. This is like a safe, a vault, etc. Not under your pillow. If you can get the licence and permit for it you can get an AR-15. However, you need what is seen as a legitimate reason. For something like an AR-15 that's going to be a professional shooter for animal pest control.

Even though I am a former Australian soldier and did enjoy shooting in the past, I no longer own any guns as I don't feel the need. I have always thought that the only place for automatic weapons is the military. No-one needs an AR-15 for home defence, not even on farms where a shotgun or bolt action rifle would suffice as a work tool and not a toy. There are actually many more guns here now than before the buyback in 1996 but there are no semi or fully automatics in individuals hands. I’m assuming you might already know but I know a lot of Americans don’t. It’s not hard to get a gun in Australia. Bolt action rifles and shotguns are pretty easy. You can even own them under 18. It’s really not that hard to buy AR15’s, it’s just lots of paperwork and money.
But the difference is they are all individually registered by serial number and the owner needs to obtain a licence to keep them.
And they also need to be kept locked in a proper gun safe when not in use.
So we “didn’t give up our guns” like a lot of Americans think. It’s just if something goes wrong it’s a lot easier to find the problem and much less likely for crazy people to have them.

Most aussies are not particularly concerned about the venomous and poisonous creatures because they pretty much all leave you alone if you leave them alone. Magpies (the black & white bird) are notorious for swooping attacks on people during their nesting/breeding season in the springtime. It's a protective instinct but they just keep coming at ya when you're too close to their nest. The rest of the year they're pretty benign and can even be quite friendly. It's legal to own a gun in Australia but the background checking, licensing and registration, and permitted types of weapons are pretty strongly regulated. Penalties are harsh and you can't just buy one because you feel like it. For example in New South Wales the penalty for possessing an unregistered gun is 5 years prison, and 14 years prison if it's both unregistered and also a prohibited weapon or handgun. The vast majority of the population in surveys and polls supports these restrictions.

There is more registered guns than most Australians believe. The regulations that were implemented in 1996 restricted most gun owners from having auto or semi-auto rifles, pump action shotguns, hand guns and limiting the amount of rounds allowed in magazines in rifles. It is very easy to get a license for target shooting or hunting or to use a shotgun. There is a background check, safety course as well as wait periods for buying guns. That is all it is. If you need a semi-auto for hunting, you need to find a new sport.

Magpies, large birds that have a habit of protecting their patch by swooping on people and can draw blood and split skin. The sound of their beak snapping shut behind your ear will turn anyone into a quivering mess of fear. However we have 2 wild magpies who I whistle to every morning and they fly up to our house and I hand feed them and they have never swooped us. When they have their brood they will bring them up to meet us and we end up with about 4 to 5 plus about 6 Butcher Birds which as a smaller version of the Magpie. Our birds are so good that if I sleep in they come into the house, sit on the kitchen bench and sing to me until I get up and feed them. Great birds but can be bloody dangerous if they suspect you are too near their nest, ask any postman on his motorbike.

As an Australian and from the comments I've seen from this growing up I never saw or held a gun and the only time I have actually seen one was visiting a friend in the US and honestly it's such a weird concept to understand having a gun living in a city (as in if you are a farmer I can see the need). Growing up in Australia attending school none of the 9 school I attended (we moved around alot because of my dad's work) had metal detectors or security guards because we don't have school shootings. The irony of saying that is one of my high schools in Hobart was across the road from where Martin Bryant lived. We do have dangerous spiders but let's be real those of us that grew up in the city rarely see dangerous ones. But explaining to non Aussies things like if you kill a cockroach make sure you clean up fast the eggs are in its back, mosquito bites well its summer we all get them at some point we just learn to deal and when you get sunburnt during summer and let's be real we all do at least once in summer we use aloe vera, wet towels if it's that bad, no clothing that makes you itch and say we learn the lesson never again but we know it will happen again...

Depends on which study you look into but it is widely believed that bix jellyfish have the deadliest venom in the world. I honestly don't think it would be detrimental to the environment if they died out like bees, but an interesting fact about jellyfish is that they are pretty much immortal. If they aren't eaten or killed in some random way, they will live forever. I'm new to the channel but loving it already.

We still have guns in Australia. We have the same pig problem in a lot of places. Basically the exact same situation except the guns we use are normally bolt action scoped 223, 243 or 22-250 5 shot rifles that do the same job, but noone dies.

Every animal is important, when one animals is extinct another animal is affected, one example was when wolfs were removes in yellow stone national park I believe, the herbivore's ate all the vegetation causing erosion and land slides. Jellyfish is food for some animals also they do eat, they have stingers to kill their pray. There are many species of mosquitoes not all of them suck blood and be annoying. Some pollinates plants like bees and butterflies.

Hey Guys...fun video. I am an American (former Marine and former gun owner and former NRA member) that now calls Australia home.... Been here for 25 years and came a bit after a mass shooting in Tasmania that was an inflection point in the Australian psyche with respect to guns and the Prime Minister and Parliament at the time really tightened up regulation.... Here it is a privilege not a right. Even though the Australian Consitution was based on the US constitution it does not contain a "bill of rights". But...you can still easily get a long gun and if you can justify it you can get a handgun. - but that is fairly hard. For any gun ownership You just need a license from the Police, training on gun safety and a safe and you grant the police the right to come in at any time and check the safe. I am in a rural area and every farmer I know has a shotgun or a rifle for shooting the ferals - pigs, foxes, feral cats, deer, rabbits... (all non native). What you CANNOT get,,,,, Assault rifles - hence "At least we dont have AR-15s". Consequently.... Australia's death rate from gun violence on a per capita basis is a minute fraction of the US. Its just the local critters that will kill ya if you are not careful!

We have guns in Australia, my husband is a member of our local gun club and goes shooting every 2nd weekend. But my husband had to attend classes before even applying for his gun licences. You have to have a licence for each class of gun you want to have so it isn't that you can't have them here just the it's regulated. We even have gun shops here, our closest is like an hour drive though.

  • @elizabeth10392
    @elizabeth10392 Před rokem

You can shoot pigs with a semi automatic here in Australia if you have a D class licence. If you have a B class licence, I've heard the Winchester 30/30 is pretty good and some of the pump action shotguns are fine too. I wouldn't know. I don't want anything to do with guns but this is what I have heard.

But until Americans can understand that social democracy in NOT Communism and the Rights are paid for by Responsibilities to community and that Repercussions result from abrogating those Responsibilities I can't see any changing.

Like jellyfish , mosquitos play a very important role in the food chain . Just think of all the birds that eat insects , bats and small lizzards and frogs . Add to that that hundreds if not thousands of fish species eat mosquito larve , you might get an idea on how getting rid of them would affect the eco system .
