Trump has absolutely no authority to use a "Nuclear Option" Congress can use it under some conditions but Mitch knows if he used it it would come back to bite him in the ass!
More like, you run out of gas, so you stop at a gas station, buy as much gas as you can afford with the nickels and pennies cluttering up your car's floor and cup holders, and then have to do it again a mile down the road.
Think about it this way, Reps wanted a clean bill and promised to bring the dreamers issue to the floor. Note that 81% of Americans support the dreamers so the Reps have been avoiding the issue like the plague because they risk alienating their base. Since the Dems agreed to play ball and gave them three weeks to get it done if they fail to address the issue then in three weeks it's right back into a shutdown plus its twice as worse for the Reps because they essentially lied so they could shut the government down twice.

Yeah, I mean, I am from Germany, our government has been in flux since the election because they still haven't figured out the coalition but the day to day business is going forward as usual. Not to mention that it would be downright illegal to send people into forced vacation and not pay them in the meantime.

What's interesting too between the photos is that Trump's desk is completely empty. Not just of photos, but of literally anything. In the photos of Bush, Clinton, and Obama, you can actually see papers and briefcases etc on the desk because, you know, they actually use the desk to work.

I am from a Asian country which is buried in debt, this hasn't even happened nor talked about here even once. How is the world's most powerful country's government facing shut down?
Mostly because our founders were really paranoid of making a government that was too powerful, so they put in a lot of checks and nerfs and downgrades to weaken it. One of those things being that it should struggle every year just to stay funded, and both the executive and legislative branches have to agree on a budget. That way it would have less time to do dictatory things. Hypothetically. Not sure how that's working for us atm.
A side-effect of this is that sometimes the executive and legislative branches just don't agree on a budget, and so our government shuts down. It's as stupid as it sounds.

Congress (really Newt Gingrich) invented this "problem" so they can squeeze the other side to win policy concessions. They could easily write the laws so funding continues by default, but they don't.
The reason everything shuts down is because the US Constitution very specifically says the power to spend money belongs to Congress. So it is literally illegal for a government agency to spend any money unless Congress passed a law that gives them funding. This actually is important in the federal-vs-state fight about whether marijuana is legal: there's a section in the federal law-enforcement budget that says "this money can't be used to block state legal-marijuana laws". So there are cases where federal agents arrested someone, but had to let him go - not because he was proven innocent, but because he (correctly) argued that it was illegal for them to spend money to prosecute him.
I remember I used to be proud to say I'm American when someone asked me. Now, when someone asks me I have the urge to tell them I'm African.

Maybe if these congressmen and women had deployed a tax plan taking more from the rich, we would stay running consistently. That needs context: that list is based on average wage per person. Quatar is a nation of 2.2 million people and a petroleum state. The USA has a far more diverse economy and richer people in absolute terms and standard of living, the problem is income inequality.

No one receive pay, what was going to happen if the government was still shut down they would have been prorated prior to the 19th on the shutdown. This means if you worked a job that paid you once a month or twice a month as the military does you were paid on the 15th you had four days of pay coming to you prorated get your facts straight
John Spencer actually being a military veteran and still serving. I know how this works because it's happened to me three times you don't get paid until the government starts back up again. My lack of comprehension is your ignorance on thinking we're getting a full paycheck it's only prorated on how you are allocated your monthly pay check per month it can be once or twice a month. All funds were paid prior to the 19th meaning you can have one check a month or you can have two checks a month bi-monthly check so being that the government shutdown on the 19th and the last pay period was the 15th you had less than 4 days of a pro-rated or 18 days get your facts straight.
