  • Can A Mid Handicap Golfer Use MY DREAM BLADES!? One of the biggest ever videos on my channel is Can a mid handicap golfer hit blades? and that tells me that you guys are mega interested in bladed golf clubs, mid handicap golf and Mid handicap Mark in particular. Who should use blades? should you use blades?! what are the best mid handicap golf clubs?! which golf clubs should mid handicap golfers use? in this video I let Mid handicap Mark test out my DREAM golf clubs, the mizuno MP32 in particular. let's do it... and let's do it now!

    Short answer, yes a mid handicap can play blades. I think the whole "you need to be scratch to hit blades" is overhyped. Lots of us grew up with no option - it is really not that challenging and I would encourage everyone to try. Coming from modern game improvement you will need to adjust to hitting a couple of clubs more due to weaker lofts but the strike experience is greatly enhanced.
    MP32's are the newest clubs I own - by a long way! I actually find older Mizuno's, MP14, TP9, softer with better feel. Pick of the bunch for me are MS11 if you can find them.

      Mizuno tp19s in my bag and I totally agree I've hit modern blades but none feel as soft as my tps 👍

    My handicap is right around what Mark’s is and I deliberately changed to MP-20 blades because of: A) Feel B) If you hit a bad one, blades let you know right away where you went wrong and you can adjust to correct it. Chunky game improvement clubs mask a lot of bad hits and I was developing bad habits because I could get away with them a lot of the time. That’s not a recipe for improving the golf swing. My distance consistency on well hit shots was much improved with blades. So, basically I found exactly what Mark found.

      It’s precisely why I’ve been playing them for the past 15 years. I questioned whether I’d be good enough for them only being a 5 handicap. I made the right decision, and as you noted the feedback prompts the necessary adjustments to find the center face. They’re MP-60’s from 2004, and after contemplating a new set I settled on saving the money and playing them a few more years.

    I normally play with Ping i 3 blades which are quite old but in great condition and I love them but something happened during lock down, I followed our lass into a charity shop and was greeted with a set of Slazenger classic Johnny Miller blades.The shafts and heads were a little pitted and they needed re gripping but at £1 each it was obvious I was going to buy them.The shafts and heads came out beautiful and finished with Golf Pride grips was my bargain set of 6-PW, now I had to get used to playing them and they actually help me in my timing of my swing.They look awesome in the bag and they give that impression that someone must have a good swing to play these and it helps mentally to make sure my set up and ball position etc is right before I swing because you know if you get it wrong,I believe blades do help you in having more confidence.

    Standard length: I bought a set of Mizuno MX-20 irons 15 or so years ago, 1/2 inch longer than standard. What I noticed though was that Mizuno’s standard length at that time was 1/2 inch shorter than many other well known brands. Nowadays the difference might be only 1/4 inch.

    I play MP60s. This year after 15 years I had the lie angles and lofts checked. My 6i had bent to the loft of a 7i and the lie had changed too. Really recommend everyone gets their clubs checked if they go to the range frequently. If you’ve got a nagging feeling that one or two of your clubs are just not right, it may well be important!

  • @mikesnowden1054

    I used to have a set of MP32s. I absolutely loved them. I traded them in when I broke my wrist, and the shafts were far too stiff. I wish I had never done it, the most beautiful clubs I have ever had. I should have put them on the wall....
    Mine were S300, 1/2 inch longer (I think). Can't remember whether I had a 3 or PW in there. Are these mine???
    They took 2 shots off my game when I got them. I found the short irons quite similar in some respects to a specialist wedge, played the bests shots I ever had with them. And the feedback for sweet spot vs off center was huge. Long irons, though, I needed more foregiveness.

    Good to see Mark again as well!
    I am the Original owner of a set of MP-32s. For anyone considering building themselves their own set I have a suggestion. When I play them I have MP-60 3-5i To mix in. (Rarely use the 5i) They are easier to hit and blend in really nicely with the MP-32s.
    While they are no longer my primary set I do play them often and they still hold up nicely against my Titleist 620 CBs.

    I got the mizuno MP60s, the "cut muscleback" as they are called. The grain flow forged clubs are just pure butter when you catch them. Noticed a drop off in distance when I got them a year ago vs my old chunky game improvers (170 vs 155/160 for 7i) but its best decision I ever made for my game

    • @Vermonstered
      @Vermonstered Před 7 měsíci

      Check the lofts of whatever you used to use vs the Mizunos. Mizuno typically uses more standard lofts which are higher than today's ego driven numbers on many sets. They briefly talk about this in the video.

  • @brianh8801
    @brianh8801 Před 3 lety

    I have MP33’s and the thing about blades that feel this good is when you strike them well, there’s nothing like it and you just want more. The poor strikes give you the same honest feedback, so you know what to expect either way. I don’t want poor shots to feel like I flushed it when I didn’t. And you can’t beat the consistency of true traditional lofts. My 7 is 36* versus these modern sub 30* lofts that typically fall somewhere between my 5 & 4 iron. Given a little time and practice, I think Mark could easily game these 3-PW and would thoroughly enjoy them.
