Whats crazy is i discovered the thumb harmonic(or whatever its called) on my own just by playing and having fun. People forget to say having fun is a HUGE part in learning and play

Guys if you’re having a lot of trouble getting the full harmonic sound and it sounds a little chunky, try picking softer. I just fixed that exact problem and I can do a pinch harmonic on any fret now so try it.

This is a very informative video. I was just about to comment that I just couldn't get the right sound until I put on distortion and I realized the screams have just been muted the entire time. It's vital that you have your amp set to "metal." I believe you mentioned this in the video briefly, but I didn't realize it was so important.
One time I was playing a song and accidentally did it but since then I’ve never been able to do it again. Great tutorial.

i'm learning a song that has this and i never knew how to do it but I finally learned how today thank you so!!!! Not consistent yet but went from never being able to do it to doing it 70% of the time!!
Decent pickups help too, when I was first learning, I was doing it correctly but the harmonics never came out, then I got better pickups and I could hit them every time. :)

John B I do it with a Mexican fender on a fender champion amp. It always works honestly even without distortion
The position of your pick-up selector matters. The bridge pickup makes the harmonics come out clearer.

thumb/pick positions vary a bit as is shown over multitudes of youtube demos. Our hands and movements all vary but there'll be a slightly different position that works for all of us. It took me a few different thumb positions to get it
I just did this by accident and turned out to be my favorite effect

Brilliant. Ive been trying to get that sound for ages and assumed it was an effect. Like others Ive doe it accidentally. Will need to master that one somehow. I wonder if there is generally an effect that enhances it more though. Great tutorial, many thanks.

How it happened for me is that i am learning guitar for 4 months now and first amp i bought was a Marshall 30 dfx gold and did not like the sound and could not dial a sound that a like or maybe on the overdrive 2 but nothing great so i bring it back to the store and saw a Boss katana artist 100 watts and bought this one instead .The cool thing with the katana is that there is a switch to select 100 , 50 or 0.5 watts so once i put it at 0.5 i crank the volume to 8 and the master at 3 and boom ! pinch harmonic all i want .Thanks for the video, it help to know to move your hand over the pick-up gives different sounds

Tony Montana you got to hit the string with your thumb at the same time than the pick. The pick hits first but the thumb is in the same motion. It really works. I make my fender squeal haha

A Rabid Fox This was actually the best advice, honestly. when I learned it years ago, I followed all the tips and tricks, but once I finally stopped trying, and just thought "fucking do it," I eventually got it and I throw them in seamlessly without even thinking about it.

Probably the best guitar tutorial I have watched... and I only clicked because that sexy PRS caught my attention. Good job... *sub'd
Or you could do a natural harmonic and hit the wammy bar and it will also squeal! Which it works best with a floating bridge cause you can rock the wammy backwards, but will also work on a standard tremelo!
