He didn't get into a car accident; he had a stroke. And to say that Love Liza is not as much of a classic as Badlands, implies that it's still something of a classic -- which it's not. It wouldn't even qualify as a cult classic. It's a very obscure film with a fine lead performance, but nothing remotely like a classic.
