This is a rare example of an excited A320. Nearby airbuses make an A320 happy, which causes them to bark like this. However this unique call is often confused with that of an unhappy A320. When boeings are nearby, A320s get agitated and make a deeper more angry bark, in an attempt to try to intimidate nearby boeings. A320s are truly fascinating.
People who don't know about the PTU think the aircraft is breaking down or there are dogs dying in the cargo hold. But I tell them "This is perfectly normal operation"
The A320 is barking because there is a Boeing plane nearby 😂 (The PTU was called as Barking noise when the passengers thought, and it sounds like a dog barking)
I remember vividly hearing that noise during my 2016 trip to Florida,I hadn't been in an airplane since I was a baby and remembered being very confused when I heard that noise....Now I know!I road a A320 during one of those flights!:D
That sounds like an overly motivated carpenter on his first day at work going hard on a counter top just to run out of steam after finding out he's not making any progress.
Ex-US MD here, non-pilot. What’s PTU? Is it causing that sound like sawing wood (it really does remind me of sawing)? I thought the sound was from trailing-edge flaps extending and withdrawing by pilot control. Thank you, Dr. J
I work at a repair station. When I worked in the hydraulic shop, I always dreaded working on airbus crap. A lot more difficult that boeing or douglas parts.
I think that’s a Philippine airlines a320-300 at NAIA international Terminal 2-3 after flight Edit: sorry that’s actually an a320-214 but I experienced an a320-300 before I think
This is the reason why I don't like Airbus aircraft. You'll never hear a Boeing aircraft make that annoying noise. But, to be fair, I recently flew on an American Airlines A321 XLR and was impressed with the overhead baggage storage capacity of that aircraft.
*Advice:* Don’t sit in between the wings. The main gear bay is located there and thats where the PTU is located therefore the PTU can be heard around that location. The sound itself also doesn’t travel far at all, you won’t be able to hear it if your seat is far behind the wings or in front of the engines. Not just for the PTU, but for sounds in general. You’ll hear the hydraulics and fuel pumps and that noisy engine whine (especially on A320ceos) if you sit at in between the wings, so not a recommended spot to sit if you don’t like sounds, but keep in mind if you sit in front of the engines, you’ll hear the sound of the engines which are notoriously loud on the A320ceos but not so much on the neos. TL;DR: You won’t hear the PTU if you’re sitting far from the middle of the plane, but you’ll hear more engine noise at the front if you don’t like that so consider sitting away from the middle of the plane if you’re flying on A319/A320/A321s. Also, you definitely flew on an A321neo or A321lr, the XLR is not operating for airlines yet, it only just completed its first ever flight testing last week as of the time I wrote this comment.
