    Good find, Hair Buddha! This was an excellent experiment. Bad application, but the results proved so much! The 40 volume was a fail in my opinion. The 10 and 20 volume lightened with less orange/yellow left behind. Very interesting! Thank you.

    This person beat me :( I was going to do a test on a wig with 6vol, 10vol, 20vol, 30vol, 40vol, and 50vol developer. I guess I still can do it since nobody else has sent you a video using 50vol!

  • @mala3isity

    Yes, please, do the test. Your ideal model is a person who wants to go from long to short, preferably darker hair to start but a red haired model could be interesting, too. Once you're done with the bleach test it can be cut off or if they don't want to sit, cut off their tails and use those.

    In my experience bad hairdressers want to use 30/40 vol to speed the process up. Also in my experience this has ruined the condition of my hair and doesn't lighten any better than a 20vol.

    • @mala3isity

      True, some salons are quantity oriented. I've found this especially in chain salons.

    • @rain3743
      @rain3743 Před rokem +1

      Except it doesn't really speed anything up. It Peters-out faster. Low and slow (with small sections and good saturation) will get you there safely. Sometimes, with boxed dye, it won't budge past a levwl 6 or 7. I work alone in my own studio ,so it takes as long as it takes.

Her fingers were over most of the part that she put the bleach on and the lighting reflected differently. If you look at it before she picked it up it wasn’t as orange.

    20 volumes but resaturating at the end to kick away the last stubborn yellow 😉
    I am more and more discovering the HUGE difference between the 'traditional' application and reapplying bleach once the first one is not processing anymore. And I thank you for this, as you explained it very well in an old video from maybe 2 years ago. No 40 volume can compare to that. I wish more stylist were aware of this, instead of leaving bleach for over one hour hoping it will continue to process 🙄

    OMG, I love this video!!! Thank you! I have fine level 3 black/brown hair with 50% grey naturally. I usually use 20-30 volume on my hair and it always turns a dark pumpkin orange and or baby chicken yellow. It's coloured a level 3N with 20 Vol all over usually to cover up my greys. The only bleached part of my hair at the moment is my chunky fringe (bangs - hate that word. It has a different meaning here in Australia LOL). Okay, so, on my highlighted fringe I usually use BlondeMe Bleach powder and 20 Vol BlondeMe developer. So today I used a 10 Vol developer instead to see how it would go, an experiment so to speak. I used Schwarzkopf Igora Royal 10 Vol developer today (don't worry I have ordered 10 Vol BlondeMe developer) with my BlondMe powder. OMG the results!!!! I left it on for 1 hr and it turned a very very pale yellow to pale yellow. I've never ever had that result. I'm blown away. I've been so worried about the condition of my hair because of all this bleach on my greys. But I think it may improve now that I will be using 10 Vol + bleach. THANKS! Love your reactions. You are hilarious! I always look forward to seeing your videos in the morning. My dog and I love them. ♥

    @elisabeth-rose Před rokem

    Hello,
    Thank you very much for all your professional advice, it helps me a lot! I watched a significant number of your videos for some time before I made up my mind. I have been coloring my hair black for 15 years with alternating blue black and red. My natural color is blond and I would like to go back because I know I'm not immune to having an allergy to dyes one day and I have really very pale skin so with black hair I look like morticia Adams 🙂and that causes me too many problems in the life. 😕
    I'm absolutely in no rush to bleach, but my hair is long (middle of the back) if I have to wait for regrowth it's going to be awful. So here it is, I decided to discolor. I bought volume 20 and volume 10. I wanted white bleaching powder, but the blue was cheaper so,,, that said as I use volume 20, I thought that would be fine.
    So I did a test wick yesterday with faded red remnants on the lengths and brown/black that came out red/orange which I expected. So I decided to do the entire neck without the roots of course in order to see the state of my hair, I specify that I leave the product for 30 minutes no more, I monitor, apply with a brush, put in aluminum foil in small highlights (I always applied my hair color in thin sections, because my mother taught me that🥰) and wear a mask and gloves. It cleared up really well and yesterday's streak is even lighter but still quite reddish and yellow in places.
    My concern is that I went too high and I overflowed a little (half a centimeter) on the root which obviously makes it light yellow since I am originally blonde. Do I need to bleach a few centimeters below my root? Because I don't want to put any product on my scalp and I currently have about 4 cm of roots.
    I would do my next discoloration in about a month to take care of my hair in the meantime. I obviously notice a slight difference in texture, those to bleach are very slightly drier, but still remain very soft which pleasantly surprised me. I don't want to be platinum blonde, or continue bleaching, I just want to get closer to my natural color so that my regrowth is less obvious. Which won't be easy either, because my blond has golden reflections, but a little red too.
    If you read me and give me an answer or advice, thank you in advance. If there are translation errors, it's Google's fault, I'm French😁

    Interesting... but hair texture and porosity also make a difference. 40vol is often used for thicker, coarser hair. And adding Olaplex generally lowers the vol rating of the developer. I use 30vol, but add Olaplex#1 to the mixture. This makes it act more like 20vol on the hair. My hair goes from level 3 or 4 to level 10 with this mixture.

    I really like your videos but they made me realize that I've never had a decent hair stylist in my life. And I don't know how to find a good one because I live in a small town. I might try and color my own hair. Maybe I should record it and I might end up in one of your videos. 😂

    Yeah, I am so tired of seeing bleaching videos with dark-haired girls using 40 vol or even 30 vol. I have almost black/greying hair and I can get to platinum with 20 vol. and time! It just needs time to work. Most people don't want to sit around for an hour I guess. if you use foils, even better - no damage.

  • @0blivvy8

    I'd love to see this with a great application, and with a lower volume added in too. IIRC, you can mix developers to get the strength you need, you get the mean or average volume. I'd only do it with the exact same brand & product to be safe. Make sure you measure exactly; for the best accuracy use a scale. So she could have mixed equal amounts of 30 volume and 10 vol. to get a 20 vol. developer (30 + 10= 40, 40/2= 20). I'd only do it in a pinch since developer isn't very expensive and you can get small bottles if you only need a little.

    Oh wow I wish I knew this sooner but it makes total sense and probably not quite as damaging.

    Thank you so much Hair Budda
    Because of all your videos. I've never used a higher developer than 20. Also I did go from a level 5 to a blonde. But it took over 2 weeks with lots of rest days. Ps what's the best hair treatment you can recommend for wavy hair that tends to become very dry.

    There are more variables, such as the time the bleach is on the hair to consider that the test video didn't consider. I wonder how long the 10 volume was on the hair compared to the 40 volume.

    I also wanted to add that the Temple area
    always developes faster and better...so she started with 10 vol . At the temple area it would have gotten the lightest anyways cuz it's at the temple.... that should have been applied last ...it needs the leat time to developer

    You're right! I was always disappointed when I used 40 vol because there was orange. Now I'm wondering if maybe I should use 10 instead of 20? I have very fine hair that's dark ash blonde that I lift to white. 💖

    I'm curious cause she said she left it all on for 30 minutes...however, was that 30 minutes from application on each tied spot or 30 minutes from when she finished? I think she may have done it from end of all the applications which means the bleach was not on there an equal amount of time and would make sense for the result of the 10 volume being the best(?) out of the 4 since it processed longer. Would have loved to see her clip the other tied portions back so she could untie the hair and apply a bit more accurately by taking thin strips, starting at the bottom, then using a brush to apply more quickly. She could then leave it on for 30 minutes and rinse out before moving to the next section ( or start with the 40 volume in the back first so she could lean back to rinse out the product with minimal disruption of the other sections). Still a neat idea though 😉

    With a brush, good amount of product and good blending 10 or 20 volume would work and counteract the banding.

  • @spiritsbeyondthestars3493

    I think that people believe that the higher the number is the more it processes. But that is the feathers from the truth. The less the number is the better process you will have with bleaching.

    • @kapee4235
      @kapee4235 Před rokem

      Yeah most people (many professionals included) aren't aware of exactly how peroxide works. 30&40 work faster but lose potency quicker which means they still give the same amount of lift as 10&20 but in less time.

  • @JulesUS8386
    @JulesUS8386 Před rokem

    I see the 10 & 20vol are lifted way more with less orange than 30 & 40vol. Granted the application was poorly done but I believe with the application being done with a brush she would get similar (less patchy) results.
    I bet @hair-buddha you could easily get a volunteer to let you do this experiment correctly!
    There are so many videos you could do to help people.
    My opinion is if they want to be a hairdresser, go to school and get their License! Otherwise, when they want something done, go to a hairdresser!!
