Notice how he sits pretty far back in his seat? Its because he needs all the space he can get to fit his massive balls to drive a car like this around those bends at those speeds 😂 what a champ 🙌🏻

Not too many people would run a valuable car as hard as you did and i commend you for driving like these cars should be driven. Brings back a lot of memories. Most of my musclecars were of the 4 spd. variety. Ain't nothing like one hand on the wheel, one on the shifter and the car sideways. Thanks for this AWESOME video.

Wow, your video brought back great memories! I used to street race my 64 Tri-Power GTO and won 39 of 41 races. That was back in my high school days of the late 60s. What a FUN car she was! When I raced, we always started from a roll, about 25-30 mph. Then, we hit it, and off to the races! Like many others commenting here, I wish more owners would put the petal to the metal. The ole' goat was meant to run, not walk. Thank you for doing it right. GTOs are meant to run!

Made me smile! About 20 years ago I had a 1965 Chevelle with a dyno proven 681 hp 496 BBC. It had a full cage, ran 10's on pump gas, was licensed and insured. I would drive it into work at least once or twice a week, and I regularly just drove it everywhere. One day I was at a big parts house and the clerk needed to see my car to make sure I was getting the right part. When he saw the car, he just said: " oh my God - you are that guy!" I wasn't sure what he meant by that, so I asked: what do you mean? He said that he had heard rumors about some old guy seen dressed in a suit and tie, driving with slicks, a cage, a 5" cowl hood, in a thumping big block Chevelle, looking like he was just driving a Cadillac on his way to work - and then blasting off as soon as there was an opening in traffic! This is a nice GTO, driven enjoyably I would say.

I don't know what it is....but just from the sound I could tell it was a pontiac 389/400/421/455 with a cam. They just have a different sound than a Chevy. That sound takes me back to so many sunday drives...
My father had a nice 65, I loved that car. Grew up learning how to wrench on it. 3x2 4 speed but with a built 400 since the original engine was toast when he and my mother bought it...But once my mother died dad couldn't stand to be around it due to the memories. He cheap sold it to a guy who then tried to flip it. My brother and I tried to buy it from my father but he didn't want to see it anymore. A few years down the road and I understand why but it still hurts. My brother and I tried to buy it from the guy he sold it to but he wanted 50k after a 5k paintjob and putting on some cragars. If I had enough money I would have paid that POS flipper just on sentimental value alone. If I don't get it back I'll buy a 64 tempest, lemans, gto and build it with my son who is 18 months but loves watching me wrench. If we get to work on a Pontiac together than he will get it!

My nephew had the 1966 GTO but i am not sure on that motor, i assume your probably right on that. I went off to the marines and got to be friends with a guy who was from Des Moines not far from my hometown. I sold it to him on payments and he got out of the service on a medical, he never sent me the money so i looked him up when i came back on leave. He said it caught on fire and burnt up😡, of course i never got a dime out of him. Had a 70 GTO with a 400. I replaced the quadrajet with a bolt on 835 cfm, spreadbore, double pumper Holley. I opened the exhaust as well. I had a problem similar to the Old Man's, I only new OFF and Wide Open. The biggest problem with most of the GTOs was slowing them down. I wore out a new set of Micky Thompson 50s in a week. I busted out laughing when that Old Man first got on it. I had my wife watch it with me. We laughed so hard we cried, and we had a death grip on our chairs the entire ride.
I had to get rid of the GTO because of speeding tickets. I bought a 4 cylinder Subaru and have never drove a really powerful car since. That was over 40 years ago.
Thanks! Drive it like you stole it!

Nice car here! I have a white 64 Tempest with a 389. My dad also has a 64 GTO with a tri power on a 389 and a 65 GTO project car. Absolutely in love with GTOs, Tempests, and Lemans. Thanks for posting this video.

100% pure Pontiac Power!! Thank you for the 8 minute ear-to-ear smile I just enjoyed!! "Lets get on it"..........there is NOTHING that compares to a dialed-in Tri-Power! Wow!!!!!

I noticed the single piston master cylinder under the hood. I'm sure it has 4 wheel manual drum brakes. You have big balls my friend!

That's the only part of this video that made me cringe was the memory of those godawful 9-1/2 inch drum brakes. They were marginal at low speed, but if you ever had to use them while "performance testing", you might as well prepare yourself for instant brake fade and just hope for the best. Today, I wouldn't take one of these cars out of the driveway without upgrading to disc brakes.

This is what I'm talking about! 😁The car that started it all...driven like it was built to be driven! I was hoping those brakes would hold out, lol. Turn it on, wind it up, blow it out!
