Coming from the UK I found the Danish Health care system utterly remarkable. It is not perfect (no one will give you advice as to which consultants are 'better'!) but it is indeed remarkably seamless, and the professionals are indeed 'professional'. I deeply appreciate the system, and I irritate my friends and family at home at the standard of general care, but also the wonderful 'nagging' by my doctor's surgery at my own approach to taking care of myself. The system is not only aimed at 'curing', but also very focused on 'prevention', and that seems to be a very key part of the way the system is implemented. Bravo Denmark!
I'm curious in what ways you've find our system more focused on prevention. Personally I've always wanted proactive treatments/health advice rather than symptomatic "cures", but I've often been met with "we support that principle but we are not prepared/able to provide you anything".
@@Muskar2 I can't answer for specifics, but in general I find my contacts with the health system very thorough and 'observant'. However I don't have a specific treatment or 'preventative method' in mind. So I can't comment on that perspective.

@@Muskar2 Our dr. Suggested my husband add Metamucil to his daily routine For diabetes. It's brought it down to regular levels now. She also ordered an gave my husband a whole system to try, new way to eat. Mostly vegetarian. He emails her an asks questions. We have very good health care in the US
LOL! I'm Danish and my doctors "nag" me a lot..., also 🙄 ! But I get the point! "We can't help you, if your not willing to help yourself" !? Makes sense somewhere! But you "Brits" have the "NHS". Isn't that pretty good too? I mean. I wouldn't be scared of becoming sick or getting a Heart attack in London. You guys also seem to have most, under control 👍😍👍! Yeah yeah, I know! But were not talking about Corona. Just generally!

No planning to live here and no Danish made it extremely difficult as you can imagine! My Danish has improved vastly but No friends or relatives to advise me made it hell at first. So I really appreciate all I learn from you!😍
My aunt is british and have never really lived in Denmark as she and my uncle has worked all over the world for the past 30+ years. She is now retiered, and they chose to settle in Denmark. And she is livid with how easy it is access all these things, and she loves the fact that she no longer have to pay everytime she goes to the doctor.

Ah yes the good old "I pay to much in taxes, and they did not pay and should not get any". Have fun with that, the rest of us pay our taxes and have no issue with the system regarding healthcare for all in DK.
@@rrphillip Nah, the system in Denmark is way better then almost the rest of the world, the nordic countries has the best system in the world, just paid and if you need help u can get it, even if u are poor or rich, we take care of our citizens, and u know a poor boy or girl who say they want to become a doctor, they can if they got the skills and don't have the money, and if u are very poor and need surgery u get it.🥰🥰🥰 We are so spoiled.

I am a 64 year old retired Scotsman living in Denmark with my Danish wife and who is starting to need maintenance and repair on my well used aging body. I have lived full time in Denmark for the past 4 years. My experience of the Danish Health system is that it is simply outstanding. It is populated by caring, professional , helpful, genuinely nice staff and the standard of public care is among the best in the world. I have nothing but respect and admiration for everyone involved. Especially for those that mimic my Scottish accent.🤣. The administration of the system is second to none and seamless and mostly free at the point of delivery. Well done Denmark.

Actually from 2022/2023 around that time, you will be able to pick up your prcoscription in any farmacy in the hole EU. They are testing the system in Finnland at the moment :)
Basically EU fuck yeah. This will make travel and traveling for work in the EU so much easier.

Im originally from the Philippines but i've been living in Denmark for almost 37 yrs. This is my home. I had a lot of experience living in this country. I live in Kolding, ( south east of Jylland). The first 3 yrs of living in DK was a challenge. But when i learned the language and their culture, it made me realize this is my home. Ofcourse, it wasn't perfect. It was hard learning the language and their sense of humor. And yes, the healthcare here is totally free and i think its easier with the digital healthcare. So i dont mind paying high taxes. By the way, i like your videos and i watch them sometimes.😍
Your videos really do remind me of how lucky I am to be born here. I am not in any way the "patriotic" type, as I don't believe it makes a lot of sense to be proud of where you just happened to be born, but I definitely believe we - as a society - do things the right way most of the time, which isn't something I can say for many other places in the world.
That's because Denmark has a small population.

as a dane, I am not only grateful, but also in awe about the quality of healthcare. As a clutz, I sadly visit the ER sort of regularly, and there is no wait time, the doctors and nurses are competent, friendly and care. When I was a kid I remember endless hours of wait time in the ER, but I must say, over the years, the danish health care system improved greatly.
My last visit was last year, I accidentally punched my own eye badly, trying to pull my coat out of my bag (idiot). It took about 30 minutes in the ER, 3 minutes at the pharmacy and I was done. *The eye however took 2 weeks to heal* (again, I am an idiot)

For you the glass is half full. For others the glass if half empty. For me it's all about not having to speculate and stress. I'm sure i can get the best healthcare in U.S..... if i can afford it 😂. Sorry to add to the quality-debate you guys tried to avoid.
I think a part of the reason why the wait time in the ER has gone down is due to having to call either your own doctor or the emergency doctor service (depending on time and day) and they will refer you to the ER or see you themselves.
I remember one time I had to go in with my son, and they said on the phone that there was a bit of wait time so no need to hurry.
Of course, if it's more severe or life threatening, you call 1-1-2 to get an ambulance

Recommendtions for a "Try it on a Tuesday": Perch Tea Salon in Copenhagen, there's a shop at street level, but also a salon above. Try it. The shop opened in april 1835!

I was wondering if you'd maybe consider visiting a couple of franchises of American businesses like McDonalds, KFC, or Domino's, to see if you stumble over some obvious differences from how you've experienced their franchises in the USA - Of course the worker wages are quite different, but as a customer is that something that's at all noticeable?
How does the hygiene compare, the food quality, and the service in general do they meet/exceed expectations?
It's always a pleasure to watch your videos, I think they teach us Danes a thing or two about things we're normally not perceptive of, because we just sort of grew up with 'everything' in place but ready for improvements wherever they can be applied, and I hope you'll continue making videos for a long time to come, with great joy for yourselves and many others! :]

As an elderly Danish pensioner, my eye-lenses had become grey/mat, and needed to be changed. As my former living area hadn't got the time within a reasonable, Law-decided time, I was sent north of Copenhagen for an operation, sooner than that, in a Private Eye Clinic. And I had Free Transport (Well, absolutely not "free", but tax-paid for, from our high taxes!) to my home, after that! The last didn't quite function, as I had - mostly moved to my now wife by then, but we managed anyway! ;-)
as a Dane I can only concur with your experience. last week I broke my hand playing basket with one of my pupils and I went to the doctor next to the school who looked at my injury before sending me to the local hospital for an x-ray. neither to doctor nor the hospital were the ones I am assigned to, but the experiences was top notch. I am writing this comment on the day I have had the necessary operation on the hospital I am assigned to and that experience has been first class as well.
OMG! Those cheesecakes looks so delicious! I will definitely have to try these next time I'm in Copenhagen.

If you are open for recommendations on your Tuesday habit, I would like to mention the concept of Konditori. It's the Danish version of the French Pâtisserie; a café with a focus on elaborate creamcakes, layercakes and various other cakes. The King of them all is La Glace in the city center, but several other spots across town.
Another very smart thing, with everything is digital, is if You get in an accident anywhere, the hospital and doctor Will know if there is anything they need to be aware of as som ad they scan your Yellow caed

Just a heads up, the digital nature of Denmark is actually quite new.
Almost all of my journals from when I was younger is gone, because the doctor I had forgot to transfer to physical papers to my new doctor when I moved. And when asked for them he could no longer locate them.
That said since 2007 I think you have been able to watch all your doctors journals online. If the doctor you had at the time actually input the information into the system.
I don't have a single journal from 2001 to 2008 due to this fact.
If you haven't already, you should get the app Medicinkortet. It uses NemID and allows you to easily see and renew prescriptions.
I have a suggestion for a try it on tuesday:
Kongen af danmark.
It comes in two forms: A hard candy, and an alcoholic cocktail.
The combination of anis and red berries is very interesting.
The candy is pretty easy to find, and for the cocktail, you will have to find either pernod(french), sambuco(italian) or ouzo(italian). And of course hindbærbrus (rasberry soda)
While anis is a licorice taste, it is a sweeter version, so it could be a gateway drug to actual licorice ;-)
While the ingredients are not danish, the name, and i guess the colour is.
Legend has it that king Christian the 5th, had some health issues, and his doctor prescribed anisoil to help him.
But pure anisoil has a very very strong taste, so the doctor had to find some way to make it more palatable.
The solution was to mix it with lots of sugar and colour it with beetroot juice, and the hard candy was born.
I still remember eating those berries on/in deserts as a child, it was a traumatic experience the first time and I didn't dare to spit them out as I was sitting at a table with other guests, had to chew and chew. A bit like when I first tasted pancakes made with beer, your brain goes: why would anyone ruin perfectly fine pancakes
All I can say is: SØMODS BOLCHER !!! Near Nørreport Station. See how they make the Candy….They have ben there since 1891 and they are suppliers to the Royal Household.

Actually you can ask for getting a renewal perscription on your asmatic medicine in the app aswell. It's great . Normally the doctor accept it within a day and you get a message on the app that your medicinecard is updated .
When hearing about your experiences in Denmark, especially with all the digital services, the US suddenly starts to look more and more like a country falling behind in terms of services offered to citizens.
Just recently I saw a video on US citizens doing taxes compared to other nations and - in the words of Janice: "Oh... my... God!"
I'm not gonna go into details (mostly because of the late hour I'm writing this), but I now know why some Americans are totally stressed about doing their taxes.
So for a little alternative alchol try it on tuesday. We are making a lot of weird wine in Denmark, and not all is great. But I would suggest a cherry wine. Take a look at the company Frederiksdal and there cherry Wine. i would suggest the Frederiksdal Nielstrupmark bottle, but there normal standard one is fine too. You can get it in a lot of wine shops, and some of the suppermarkets like Meny I think also have it.
That rubber glowe intro was both scary and exciting all at once :D

Guys. Since summer is upon us. You will have to try out home made Rødgrød med Fløde.
I know its the dish we make all forginers say so we can roll about on the floor laughing our arses off. But its also a super good dish. Its one that is best served on a warm summers day, in the evening, while outside in the garden wit family and or friends. And then have Rødgrød med Fløde.
Mmm. Memories and tasty times. I can highly recommend that dish for come summer.

Its alright. The nightmare stories usually have a backstory. Ive never had a problem. It is actually quicker to get service in the US. You get it when you want it. I find DK takes forever.
@@jimmybaldbird3853 Back during elections I talked to a lot of people about healthcare, and the majority had a story about either them or someone in their family not accepting an ambulance, or avoiding going to the doctor for an extended time period in the hopes that the problem would go away. A lot of life expectancy problems we're having are also coming from infant mortality rates as well as what are known as "deaths of despair". Things like overdosing on opioids for example, which you might have heard on the news in recent years. Blaming just our diet and obesity rates would imply that other countries with similar obesity rates and diets would have decreases in life expectancy too, but we're not seeing that.
@@Jeffur2 i find that hard to believe. I am also curious about the details of these stories and the people involved. It Sounds like they survived. So isnt the system working? However, “talked to a lot of people,” sounds very anecdotal. Therefore, i too will resort to such criteria. I have never heard of anyone in the US refusing to take an ambulance because of cost. If you thought you were dying, you wouldnt care how much it costs, you would hop on. If they are that financially strained or do not have healthcare, why? If they have an employer, they should have some form of healthcare most of which deal with emergency situations. If they do not work they have medicare which covers 80% of this hospital trip if not more in some situations. On top of that, i live in denmark now. I know for a fact they turn people down from ambulance trips. They are very strict on who qualifies for the ambulance. The US does not discriminate who taxis to the hospital. If you are not bleeding out or losing consciousness, they will ask you questions and deem if your condition is serious enough. They simply do not have the resources. I find this highly ironic. I was not merely discussing carbs, i was discussing the complications of a high carb diet, being overweight is only one symptom. That said, State to state, many have lower obesity rates than the countries of europe. These countries are seeing increasing death rates despite you saying theyre not. Similarly, there are countries with higher rates of cancer, fatty liver disease, etcetera than the US, especially when using individuals states. Many of these diseases are connected to the modern western diet which is replacing native cultural diets. You should see the mcdonalds here-packed everyday all day.

In regards to spring and sunburns here in Denmark please know that when the days get longer, the sun have immense power. Put that together with being indtjening water, which acts like thousands of little mirrors reflecting the sun back up at you makes your chances of getting a sunburn 100% especially if you're not wearing sunscreen. This comes from a person who burn very easily and doesn't like to wear sunscreen but will do it if I'm on the sea.
A dane and ginger i would agree to that.._ on a side node.._ if i don't get at least 3 bad sunburns during the summer.._ it was a bad summer...
My friend and I had lunch at an old school Smørrebrød Restaurant "Cafe' Sorgenfri" (saturday). Totally great 😁 ! And than we went to "Bertels Salon" (Kompagnistræde 5 - 1208 K), for dessert afterwards. Best "Cheesecake" EVER! Thanks - Youngs - for the tip😎! It Was totally AWESOME 👍😀👍 !! I know a good Cheesecake when I taste it, and theirs are really really good ❤ ! PS: They will give you a Take Away box, if you can't eat up, and ask for it! No shame in that 👍 ! Avoid Food waste 😒 !

If you dont have tried it the app “Min læge” and “Medicinskabet” is the public app for your doctor and your prescription so you don’t have to use the doctors website - it’s much easier.
I have heard that you like bunker museums. So why don't you try the museum in Hanstholm. They have the worlds best bunker museum, I think. They even have a canon which have been mounted on the Bismark, the worlds greatest war ship, I think. The greatest experience comes when you go to see the non restored parts of the bunker complex, it is really interesting. Good luck! 😉

Suggestion for your "digital Denmark" that might surprise your American viewers.
Denmark pretty much "know" every person living in the country and everyone has the yellow card as you say.
This help with other non-health things as well. One of them is elections!
Naturally you guys wont get to vote in the Danish election. But when election time roll around every person that are eligible to vote will AUTOMATICALLY get their voting cards. You do not have to register!
Voting will usually take place at a nearby school. So it will not be far away and unlike some pictures I see from the US, there will be very little queing in order to vote. The election official will check your vote card and give you the ballot.
Also the early results are usually tallyed by the end of the evening and final result the next morning.
It is also important to note that when people vote they do so on paper so there are no voting computers. The ballots are counted by hand and it is done by volunteers from the different parties, it is made sure there is people represented from all sides and if there is ever a question a simple recount is easy to do.
Plus there is rules that make sure election campaigns are fair and short, so money for advertising doesn't decide the elections.
You mentioned that your first doctor didn't speak English, in such a case, the procedure would be for the doctor either call up a translator or have a translator present during the appointment.
There is of course a (limited by law)cost associated with it, but ignoring the cost for a moment and focusing on the 'ease' of the doctor having a translator at the ready for the patient is a plus, there is of course a limitation on numbers of translators and spoken languages, but to my knowledge, they have about 80 languages to select from.
I hope that non-native utilize the translation services each time, so they can get the best service at their doctor or hospital.
I always has "The yellow card" in my purse because if something should happen to me (an accident or just get sick or unconscious) people, police or doctor's can identify me and see my health history so I can get the right help right away
Yeah, that is a huge benefit. Instant knowledge of your health history in case of an emergency. In the US people with an illness often care something around in their wallet that mentions key allergies/etc, but having the actual records would be far more reliable.
I often go my dr and the library. So having such a tight net system makes life convenient.

About emailing your doctor and the like, they also now have an app (same family of apps as "Min Sundhed", "Mit Medicinkort" and so on, where you can book and access your information through the app. As I understand it you will also be able to get a Yellow Card app soon and possibly a Blue (EU) card in the near future.
Talk to me about the vitamin D defieciency. I once had a shot of liquid vitamin D, because mine was so low! 😅 Know I make sure to take it via supplement :)
In a blood test I had 14 something, and the doctor said it was supposed to be 120-140 something. Can't remember exactly. Was subscribed suplements afterwards.
There is an app called "medicin kortet" you can order new medicine and renew prescriptions or order if there are open prescriptions
You can also order your medicine on-line, 1 day it's in your hand

I dont know, if you know this, but the cool thing is some or all medicine gets cheaper every time you buy it, and starts over again - for example 95 DKK at first, then maybe 40 and so on. ☺️👍🏻

If you're a member of Danmark - the insurance (translate thing) Once a year they sent you the discount to you and if you can't wait, you can attract? them whenever you like and it will be a few hours and it's on your bank account. My mum signed me up from birth (before you get hit by numerous things with teeth and so forth. I've done the same with my son as soon as he was born.
Barely worth mentioning, but just for good meassure. It is naturally only you (and your own doctor) who are able to see your health history etc. So its not so everyone can see everything. And even a doctor can only see the parts of it he/she need to know for any given treatment.
The digital prescription and the fastlege is genial, that way addiction and overcomsumtion is difficult, because at least in Norway only the fastlege or your spesialist (if you have MS etc) are allowed to prescribe opioids and other medication you can get addicted to.
Pluss you get medication you Will have to use the rest of your life for free . ( painpills, astma medication etc, if you ask your fastlege to prescribe it on a blue resept/prescription) and children is free both consultation and medication intill they are 16) no copay

Watching american politcs I could imagine that many americans would oppose this centraliced registrating and “government control” with our healthinformations. You should be a member of the insurance system "Danmark" It is very cheap and you will get decuction on your prescription drug

Did you know that when you scan the yellow card at the doctor's it's also the documentation that pays the doctor for the consultation?
That's why they always make me scan it twice.
@@galdessa1 No it only work once even if you do it 20 times the same day. It is the only proof the doktor has that you were actually there in the clinique😊😊😊
