people should remember too that he won Suzuka's 8h race with Edwards on the Honda VTR 1000 SP2. the bike that Edwards won the SBK with before coming to MotoGP. i would've loved to see that bike here too.

He's also the last ever rider to win a premier class world title on a satellite team bike. Nowadays if satellite team riders have any semblance of a world championship material, they're promoted to the factory team.
Nastro Azzuro had the same bike than Factory team Repsol but it was under contract to receive updates after the Repsol team. for some reason when he started winning with it right from the beginning, Honda started to send new parts to Valentino before the Repsol team. i remember it was a massive discussion back then. Repsol riders were furious about that. LOL
