      C3, its a C note in the third octave. C4, its a C note in the fourth octave.
      If ur voice can reach from C3 to C4, its mean that u have 1 ovtave range. Mariah. Has 5,2 octaves range. The lowest, its a G#2, its a G# note from the second octave, the highest its a Bb7.its a Bb from the seventh octave.u can just count it like G#2,4,5,6,7 plus A7 and Bb7. And that a 5 octaves range. '#'(sharp/half note higher).'b'(flat/half note lower).

    The mixed voice is where we belt. Chest voice is not where someone belts. Chest voice ends in the first passagio which is just in the mid 4th octave for women. Anything above is either mixed (Chest-Head mix) or HV (pure or disconnected i.e falsettos).

    • @Mcfan1989
      @Mcfan1989 Před 9 lety +8

      +chung2F5 That doesn't make sense though. Mixing is a learned thing, I can't mix at all, that's why my chest range ends at G4

    • @chung2F5
      @chung2F5 Před 9 lety +4

      Mariah Carey Fan I don' t understand what you are saying. People don't know the difference between head voice and mixes a lot of times (many online vocal guides has the whole thing wrong). Are you saying you start using head voice after G4 (as in true head voice)? Pure chest voice ends somewhere around Eb4s for sopranos, then people enter the belting range (mixed voice) which can extend upto early 6th octaves for some people.

    • @Mcfan1989
      @Mcfan1989 Před 9 lety

    @maybemab1 Před 9 lety +170

    Almost all of this is correct, however, middle notes and belted notes are mixed, never sung in pure chest, and falsetto doesn't contain any chest, it's a disconnected head tone. And there is no passagio between chest and whistle, because the head voice sits between the two.

      @biggityboggityboo8775 Před 9 lety +19

      M1981A Exactly. Well said. My only aside to that would be that one can sing in a modal/chest voice, relax the adductors a litthe and pump loads of air through the chords , blowing them apart, to give it a very airy/falsetto like quality.

    • @maybemab1
      @maybemab1 Před 9 lety +22

  • @Vince-kq9qw
    @Vince-kq9qw Před 7 lety +8

    According to the definition, I think the "Melisma" is really "Vocal Run". Also, the "mixed voice" of women usually starts at some top notes of the 4th octave. Any note which is higher than that is basically mixed voice. Here, Mariah Carey has a very balance proportion between chest voice and head voice which makes her mixed voice sound flawless and subtle.

    When Mariah dies (not sayin I want her to anytime soon) we need her throat treasured in a museum!

  • @Vain-Voyager
    @Vain-Voyager Před 5 lety +8

    I think many 'high chest' notes here may actually be mixed voice instead of pure chest. They're just chesty mixes.
    Belting also refers to using mixed voice for high notes, besides pure chest. I believe the difficult technique you're referring to here is actually the 'mixing technique', by which vocalists can intentionally adjust the proportion of chest and head for different sounding.
    Mixed voice is naturally occurring when singers reach a certain height, but mixing technique is not. Mariah Carey and many other great vocalists in fact lack the mixing technique (although with great support). They rely on the mixed voice for those F5, G5, etc belts.
    So, it ought to be:
    1. Vocal Fry Register
    2. Modal Register
    (Belts [Chest --> Mixed] --> Head)
    3. Falsetto Register
    4. Whistle Register
    What I always wonder is whether or not falsetto is generally higher than modal; but people say head (a part of modal) is higher than falsetto when both go up to the limit.

This video is explained it as the act of moving between registers. That’s usually called a flip. Everyone’s passagio is in a different place depending on your voice type as well as individual differences

    I think belting comprises mixed voice as well? What you're referring to is mixing technique that many vocalists lack (including Mariah Carey). Those F5 & G#5 belts are mixed voices as well (I highly doubt pure chest can go beyond E5, even for sopranos like Mariah Carey).
    Minnie Ripperton & Lisa Fischer are known to use extensive (super) head voice up to G6. I agree that's a different story from whistle which is a completely different register.

    falsetto is NOT chest plus head voice. Its an entirely different register, because it is unconnected (transitions between chest and falsetto are noticebla, meanwhile transitions from chest to head voice are more seemless). And BTW, Belting is not done in pure chest, belting IS mixed voice.

    For passagio, she also have one that goes from chest voice to falsetto to whistle register. I heard it from her song Circles. Sorry if I am wrong lol😂😂😂

    Actually notes from C5 or lower are naturally mixed and you can't belt a G#5 in chest voice, it would be like screaming your lungs out

    It’s very possible to have seven octaves. There is a different part of your voice, known as the fry, that can make you sing like a base singer if you learn how to do it right. I’m a female, and I can sing as low as some of this base singers in quartettes. I can also do the whistle part of my voice, way up to the f above the last C on top of the piano. I started to do that before I heard her, though. I had heard Minny Riperton do that whistle and learned it like that. It takes a different part of your voice to do it, though. Mariah, to me, was the best on her first three albums and then she sold out. I get that people like different styles of music, but a lot of others didn’t sell out to the newest fad. She did, and I was very disappointed. She really could sing.

    whistle register is part of the head voice... it's a real part of the voice... It just sounds like a whistle when a persons range is so big and goes so high... The tone and resonance of the head voice and change to many tones..... but it's all the same part of the vocal register.

    this video led a lot of singing misconceptions that people still believe until now lol "middle and high belts" are mixing as well. you tried to make both of it sound different just because the ones labeled "mixed voice" were more heady/balanced. and some "falsetto" were head voice, they weren't just full.

  • @youtubetrashtalker7506

    Difference between falsetto and headvoice is that falsetto is not connected but headvoice is
    nothing else as it depends on peoples chords. :)
