I got a 2nd ball and went from a 14lb Ocean Vibe to a 12lb Atomic but then realized that the steps you guys showed eliminates the need for feeling like I was carrying a ball that was too heavy. I think the proper drop and momentum on the takeaway and having the fingers in the right position takes away the feeling of the ball being too heavy and also having a heavier ball means you have more mass to help knock down the pins if thrown and released properly down the lane.

Much easier to try to adjust your starting position, to put your body in a better spot to correct or a least minimize, the issue...whatever issue that may be

i learned how to bowl a little over a year ago and bowl in two casual leagues a week (i'm not that good, averaging 140-150 for a 21 year old guy). the kicker is that I'm 100% self taught, and accidentally taught myself how to throw a back-up ball, which i didn't know at the time. it felt natural to twist my wrist clockwise to get that left-to-right spin, as a righty. but after some research, i learned that back up bowlers are inconsistent, and it's an overall tough way to learn how to bowl. anyways, ill stop rambling to say that these vids really help me re-learn bowling in a way, to bowl more traditionally and consistently. everything from the approach, the rev, everything. it's basically a backwards version of what I taught myself, but watching these vids make it seem much more natural. feels weird, but ill be confident to throw a regular ball soon!

Being able to throw a back-up Ball is a real good tool though. It’s something not everyone can do. Hell Anthony Simonsen has done it for an entire Tournaments before, and on TV.
But obviously it’s not something he does all the time, just if the situation calls for it. You definitely should learn how to Bowl regularly. And when you get good enough, having that extra tool in your arsenal will just be an extra plus. 👍

    Hello Gentlemen and thank you.
This was a great tip at the right time. Been struggling and after watching this I was able to release the ball in a better hand position last night at league.
I instantly felt like the ball was doing what I wanted instead of rolling out too soon and hitting the pins with no power.
This helped me get the ball further down the lane and stored more power until the ball took over and turned hard into the pins.

Hello gentlemen and thank you so much for a great video Kyle and Dennis. I've been bowling in leagues for years, and right now I'm in 6 leagues, I'm a 64 yr old female! All my leagues have different averages because I couldn't figure out exactly what I needed to do to keep getting the great scores that I get on some of my leagues, but watching your video I realized what I was doing wrong. I watch some of my other bowlers to see how they handle their bowling balls, and if I try to replicate them, well, sometimes it goes great and others it doesn't, and by the way, yes I have a hook ball, 3 of them. I have a Phaze 2, an Eternity and a Cyclone to which they are all great balls. I'm just having the worst ti,e ever picking up my ten pen when I used to use my Eternity as my pickup ball, and never missed. But now it's like I may get 3 out of 8 and I'm not happy with that. I'm definitely going to use the tips in your video. Again, thank you for showing an old lady how to let the ball roll off your hand instead of trying to make it hook...

Great lesson! I'm constantly challenged to keep my hand behind the ball as long as possible. I tend to lose it towards the bottom of my downswing. There's something in my mind that says "The ball won't hook unless you help it," and I end up on the side of the ball before the ball is even at my shoe. Or, worse, I release it too early and it just thuds onto the lane with no revs. I needed this today.

I am glad I’m watching this video again because my problem is I always tend to sometimes curb it too much to my left and into the gutter. Also, my biggest problem is to get more power/rev rate, is that finishing motion when you put your arm up as you are releasing the bowling ball. I can never ever get my arm up, especially when releasing the ball if you can help me unlock that would be amazing thank you so much. Take care guys.

The drop step Kyle forgot to mention in this case was for a 4 step approach. Sometimes on a 5, if timing is an issue. 3 steps is in a transition move.

  • @jeremygreene994
    @jeremygreene994 Před 6 měsíci +1

One of my biggest issues is timing. I take a 6 step approach due to a broken ankle in 2013 and taking 7 years off bowling (2015-2022). I have been grinding and working on a lot but one thing I keep noticing constantly is my timing is way off at times. Also transition I am having trouble with and trouble seeing it ahead of time and being able to make the ball change as needed and not too late. I have a habit of just wanting to adjust my mark/feet instead of realizing I need to get out of the ball. These are two major issues for me I need to work on and I hope I can get the membership after the beginning of the year and hope to come to your guys clinics as well.

Dennis, you are almost there, I've seen your swing improve greatly. That short clip right at the end as if we're watching you bowl from the lane to the right of you, your arm stayed straight the whole swing. That last part about being below the equator at the bottom of your swing, when your ball reaches it's peak in the backswing, start dropping the ball and bend your elbow just a little right before the ball is at hip level and then straighten your arm back out as you release and remember to try to make your arm move faster going from beside slide foot to finish, than it moved the rest of the swing. Norm Duke called it, accelerating through the release. But that slight elbow bend will help you stay below the equator, all the way to the point of release. It'll make it easier to be "under" the ball or "behind" the ball instead of being on top of the ball

Hmmm. Novice but not a new bowler, I recently got a ball recently and having a hard time. I understand what you're saying, but in trying to "get under the ball" I've been sort of curling the ball (bending from the elbow) and it causes a strain in the bicep. Wouldn't it be a better way to bend your wrist instead and keep your arm straight?

Nice corrections Dennis. Add Taking faster steps to use your legs to create way more power from the momentum and those little pesky pins will drop

Those were some great tips! But how do I stop myself from gripping the ball with my thumb on my back swing? Cuz I tend to get bowlers thumb and a lot of soreness due to this bad habit!

Start with a no-step-drill and focus on just that part of your game during practice.

Quick question, sometimes when I get under the ball and actually unload. I for some reason just can not keep it going to the right on line.

In taking a lesson, the coach told me to uncock to the point of breaking my wrist at address.
I didn’t think to ask why or what that would accomplish but maybe it was similar to what this guy was doing ? I know at times when I first drop the ball into the swing my thumb goes down & I get on the side.
