      Submerge your lid in a bowl with baking soda and water and let it sit overnight. Then rinse it out in the morning. Put baking soda in your cup and let that soak as well.

    Another big thank you. I struggled for days trying to figure it out and would never have done it without your help. Took me a few goes but my mug is back in daily use and I don't have to feel guilty about using non recycling paper cups, plus lots of coffee shops now give you a discount for bringing your own mug, so I'm very grateful to you for taking the time to share this great tip.

    Samuel, thank you so much for taking time to post this video. I was getting frustrated, you probably have better manual dexterity. So I took another look at this system. I popped out the larger part that swings up. "Push to Clean". Use a small screwdriver or simular tool. Just to get a little leverage on each side. When you have that part out, it is very easy to install the actual seal part with the springs, because you can get a much more favorable angle, so it can be installed with very little spring tension. After you have that spring loaded part I installed, you can install the whole unit (both prices) without much trouble.

    Thanks for this video. A while back someone tried to clean my lid for me and popped the springs out by mistake, and were unable to fix it. I was going to buy a new one until I saw this. As an added suggestion for anyone having trouble getting the springs and the arms in the right position, I popped the springs out of where they lock into the plunger part, and put the plunger and the springs in loosely. Then, I used a pair of hemostats to pull the springs back into the holes.

  • @marcribaudo1965
    @marcribaudo1965 Před 7 lety +1

    I have a few older model Contigo travel mugs and use them for not only traveling, but around the house too. Their built extremely well but can be a PITA to clean. No way around you having to soak the lids like once every week or two, depending on how well you shake some soapy water up after use. If you don't soak the lids, a nasty, slimey mold will form under the lock button on the top of the lid. I use a pipe cleaner before soaking and the thing comes out all blackish green. The springs inside the lids love to collect cream and milk residue. I use a tablespoon of the dry non dairy creamer and a little half & half and if I don't put very hot water and a little dish detergent and shake it violently for a minute, it starts collecting rather quickly. Good workout, but still need to take a brush to it. Overall I love these cups. Saved plenty of spills from happening and that's why I'm such a fan. The reason I watched this video was to see if maybe I could break down the lids easily for cleaning, but obviously you have a good touch for handling stuff like this and patience. I'm good with my hands but suck in the patience department. I want to remove the top button and springs inside for cleaning, but judging from your video, it doesn't look like it's worth the hassle. Plus those springs look like they might break if their played with much.

    Thank you! Thanks for taking the time to make this video -- I love the Internet.
