At the age of 26, when he ascended to the throne, Sultan Suleiman aimed to build an empire more powerful than Alexander the Great and to render the Ottomans invincible. Throughout his 46-year reign, he became the greatest warrior and ruler of both East and West.
The young Suleiman received news of his succession to the throne during a hunting party in 1520. Unaware that he would be ruling a reign beyond his dreams, he left behind his wife son and took to the road with his close friend and companion Pargali Ibrahim to reach the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul. As they started their journey overland, an Ottoman ship set sail from Crimea in the Black Sea, bringing female slaves as gifts for the Ottoman palace… On this ship was Alexandra La Rossa, the daughter of a Ukrainian Orthodox minister, taken away from her family and sold to the Crimean palace. She had no idea that she would become Hurrem, wife of Sultan Suleiman and mother of princes, ruling the empire with him through bloodshed and intrigue.
As Sultan Suleiman conquered the world, his great passion for Hurrem would clash with his love for and trust in his closest friend and advisor, Grand Vizier Pargali Ibrahim, all set against the backdrop of the tension between Christian Europe and the Ottoman Empire in the 16th century.

I love this show. It’s made me curious about the real people and their real stories. Just to find out how many liberties the writers took. They made it a great show. My curiosity has grown so now I’m going to Istanbul 2025! I’m sooooo excited ❤

See Mahidevran makes completely valid points here. The problem is she failed to factor in thay Hürrem and Suleiman are LEGALLY MARRIED and for some reason Hürrem never mentions it either.
Yeah, the show sort of hand waves away what a major confusion in terns of rank this would be-Hürrem is the senior female member of the dynasty now, regardless of who rules the harem. It isn't really wrong of Nigar to point out earlier on that she isn't certain of whom she's supposed to obey more under such circumstances.
From this point, the point where Hurrem intentionally threatenes and basically kills Valide Sultan, i turned from Hurrems fan to Hürrems biggest hatter, cause that was just cruel... Latter on I prayed for her downfall, and glorious it was...
People really forgot that she was tken there against her will & that everyone was cruel to her, that then she swore revenge towards all of them
@@sophiekerst5346the ottomans did not kidnap hurrem. Tatars killed her parents. Its always the same with hurrem fans when she has done something wrong: either it is " but mahidevran has done..." " she protects her children" or "whah whah she was kidnapped" as if mahidevran ibrahim or any other slave was not kidnapped
@@tanjaceren984no, no, let's talk about how the show viciously villainises all forceful converts and ex-kufar slaves. All the dynasty members are presenter as pious and virtuous people with minor mistakes, here and there, whereas everyone else is basically pure evil. The Ottomans were primitive and barbaric.

@@tanjaceren984 sure, judge people taht are dead for almist 500 yrs based on todays standards. How can people not see that the crown family and dinasty are supposed to be in power, are supposed to have everything in the palm of their hands. Hurrem got more then she deserves in that period of time. She is the villian. Period.
