  • Heritage Audio’s Herchild 670 is a faithful recreation of the legendary Fairchild 670 valve compressor.
Herchild 670 uses 22 valves and 9 transformers which explains it's rich, characterful sonics. Apart from being built to current, more reliable standards, Heritage Audio have also taken the opportunity to add features helpful to the modern engineer including direct access to the DC Threshold - a variable slope control that modifies the knee of the compressor.
A side-chain filter with 4 well-chosen frequency points allows users to tailor LF compression response.
Finally, a fourth LAT/VERT LINK mode (not available on the original) has been added that links both channels’ compression based on Mid/Side detection.
With original units being rare, prohibitively expensive and arduous to maintain, Herchild 670 offers a realistic alternative for today’s recording studios.

There is something about the 670 that is just magic, either hardware or software. This recreation once again confirms that! Another one for the wishlist!

What kind of tubes are used? 22 of them...

8x NOS military grade 6BA6, 12AXY, 12AT7 & ECC99 per channel (11x valves per channel, so 22x in total). The 6BA6’s replace the 6386 found in the original unit as these are now very rare so not a sensible choice for modern manufacturers (also bearing in mind long-term serviceability). Hope that helps…

So, why does Behringer get so much stick for recreating/cloning classic units when there are companies like Heritage that have a whole model of cloning gear but are seen differently??? Especially when you consider the cost of this. I get it that it's got loads of valves etc but this price is still probably a little excessive.
