  • I wanted to make a video to help newer members with Radios and those who are getting into GMRS and/or HAM radio. I hope these pointers will help those who aren't experienced with Radios. I am by no means an expert, but I know enough to be dangerous. If you have any questions or comments please let me know!

Your club should implement transmit overtime (tot) limits. Menu option #9 on the baofeng. It will disable the ptt after you reach the specified time limit.

New subscriber and nice looking JL! I am still rocking the JK Rubi. What brand antenna and mount brand did you do with? I am using a cheap amazon fully adj hood mount with a Tram dual band NMO style 20". It works pretty well up here in MT but am also interested in going with something like you have for "out of town" ventures. 73!

This is the antenna I am using.
      NR770HBNMO Mobile antenna 2m/70cm, NMO, 40in a.co/d/iD7698N
It seems to work really well.
Thanks for the comment about and subscription!

Nice and clean speech! In europe we do same things with ours gmrs equivalent (lpd/pmr446) Have in program to make a video of your ham radio mobile installation? In some vid think to have see grabbar mount for handle and mic (jeepuniq or similar) and double antenna on hood, one for each side... 73 de IZ3QVB

I copied Brad's radio installation from TrailRecon. His video is very well done and worked well.
I will try to make a quick follow-up video of this to show my setup. I do have the Jeepunip mic holder.
      Thanks for the comment!

Legally no, the old beofangs weren't FCC compliant. Do people do it, yes and with the low power (5 watts) and short antennas, I don't think you are causing any harm. My advice is to get the proper Radios (you can listen with whatever radio you want), just to be safe.

Outta the box no. But there are ways to jail break it. There are vids showing ways. So your answer just changed to yes.

@@Thatsmisteroldguytou True, but ultimately it's up to you if you follow the law or not. I don't think it's a big deal as in the power level we are talking about is really low. Now if you have an 100ft tower and 3000 watts, don't be surprised if the FCC comes knocking.

Imagine a country, where you call yourself free, but you have to pay the government to talk to your friends during a fun hobby.
Meanwhile, they spend billions of it all over the world to make other people “ free”.
