2004 F250 6.0 has no power and won't accelerate

  • I have a 2004 F-250 with a 6.0 and am having a serious issue. The truck has about 240,000 miles and has been great until now. About a week ago the truck was running great and had plenty of power. I decided to wash it with my pressure washer (did not spray under the hood, however I did spray in the front wheel wells and underneath the truck). About 5 minutes after washing the truck, I took it out for a drive and noticed when I really got on the accelerator the truck would not want to try harder and motor got very quiet. Really all you could hear was the turbo whistling. Over this past week the problem has gradually gotten worse... a few days ago I had to feather the pedal in order to go up hills. If I gave it more than about 1/4 inch of accelerator, the motor once again would get quiet and the truck would start to slow down and would not want to work. However, if I let up and only gave it a small amount of accelerator, the motor would sound normal again and it would pull up the hill. Today, I can do nothing more than idle back and forth in the driveway because the motor gets quiet and the turbo winds up if you give it even the slightest amount of accelerator. I have no idea if it's a coincidence that this happened after washing the truck, or if maybe there was a sensor that was rotted and about to die and I finished the job with the pressure washer. I already replaced the egr valve and have been running tons of Howes diesel conditioner and anti gel through it. The injectors were replaced about 50,000 miles ago so I'd hate to think it was them. The truck doesn't smoke at all either, so I'm out of ideas. I really appreciate all of the help I can get, thanks so much!
    P.S. I know the fuel gauge reads empty...it's broken. It positively has fuel!

    i know this is like 5 years too late, but for anyone that sees this video and has a similar problem with their truck, that is most likely a cracked egr cooler. that white smoke coming out of the exhaust is coolant. that will cause the truck to go into limp mode.

      Nate Wilson I just recently had this issue and it was a combination of a bad fuel pump and trashed pump wiring harness. Installed both repairs and good as new.

    Another guy had this issue and what fixed it was simply unplugging and replugging in his icp sensor.. I guess it wasn't making a good connection or was shorting out.. I've personally driven mine with it disconnected before for testing purposes, so I found that strange

    Hey guys, sorry I never responded. It turned out to be the high pressure oil pump. The motor wasn't able to build up any oil pressure and wouldn't allow it to rev up.

      Funny all of these suggestions. I see two issues that I am actually having right now. although this is a year old can you tell me if the HPOP did actually fix the problem? Mine is similar and very unpredictable. Before the throttle becomes completely unresponsive, it will begin to have a very delayed response but also the idle speed will be very "up and down". Mine's an 05 and I heard the HPOP will leak oil. Mine's leaking now and this trouble also might just be my problem too.

    • @billstoys6729
      @billstoys6729  Před 7 lety +1

      Yes, it was the HPOP. The 6.0's are notorious for this.

    Hi everyone, once again it was the high pressure oil pump. The key here is to not buy a 6.0. It's a very common problem, along with the rest of the issues.

    • @trogenworm
      @trogenworm Před 7 lety +2

      actually you don't want a '03 or '04, as they have the aluminium pump!!! '05 to '07 have the cast iron one. You can convert the early models to the cast iron but you need the oil valley pipe from a late model to do it and the early models will be fine.

    • @anthonyrybczynski5420
      @anthonyrybczynski5420 Před 7 lety +4

      Draydster12321 The F250 and F350 are identical drivelines in every possible way. The 2003, early 04 trucks are more likely to blow a high pressure pump. The 2005/06 truck is guaranteed to have dummy plug leaks in the high pressure system. Both style engines have poor cylinder head design. Both will blow head gaskets and have high pressure system problems. Follow diesel tech Ron (RIP) and you can minimize the headaches.

    • @trogenworm
      @trogenworm Před 7 lety +2

      Bill's Toys he also said he has never seen head gaskets blow from normal use.it was always the egr cooler causing the head gasket issue and someone running a race tune on them

    What high pressure pump? the diesel pump? motor oil pump? What did you fix? When this happens it's usually the accelerator pedal at fault. There is a pedal position sensor on it and it changes as a unit. The sensor tells the computer how much you are pressing the pedal and supplies fuel as required. ford part # 1c34-9f836-ba. dorman #699-203.

      @Jeko_9785 Před 3 lety

      The 7.3 and 6.0 Powerstroke have High Pressure Oil Pumps to build up enough oil pressure (roughly 3000 PSI) to fire Injectors (Oil powered Injectors) and to lift the valvetrain (The valvetrain of the 7.3 I'm not sure about the 6.0) because they use Oil to lift the push rods (and a camshaft. I think, It's pretty complicated)

      Maybe it does! and he does not realize he needs fuel. Thats how our tractor trailers act when they have NO fuel it will start and not respond to the fuel pedal. But as long a little diesel is in the truck it will start but nothing else!

    • @4jiggaalways
      @4jiggaalways Před 7 lety

      The truck is cold. Just started because the temp gauges are low. Therefore the cluster is good. The only other thing it could be is the TPS located on the fuel pedal..but on a diesel is always better to fuel up the truck before trying other steps

      @@4jiggaalways LOL , new models that have computers and ficm and eletrical sensors and even the Accelerator pedal is electronic, so requires the alternator to keep the voltage up with the batteries. if the alternator is bad way to tell just as you would on a gas vehichle remove the possitive battery post from both baterries if equiped and if the alternator is bad the deisel engine equiped with eletronics will shut down.as well there is a ground from both batteries going to the frame and passager side to frame and to the engine block . they sometimes get corroded and need to be cleaned. but can do a test on alternator simple test even though the guage may read it is good but not true reading. alternator can fail under the line and show its only working at a Low % but yes take the poss batt post off the batteries and 5 secs if the engine shuts down, then its the sign of a bad alternator.. altrenator must be good working in order for the new technologyu to work. if drops below certain voltage to sensors and ficm and other sensors will result in damages to all those elcrical components .
