    Welcome back! I have a question, how should I go about bonding with a pair of pigeons? I recently got 2 pigeons from the pet store and I've had them for about 3 weeks, and they still are barely okay with being near me. They'll be calm and preen about 2 feet away from me but they absolutely won't eat from my hand or let me get near them. Any advice?

      Try to spend as much time as you can around them, so they can get used to your routine and motions. Letting them spend time outside of their enclosure while you do this can help them become more accustomed to you and less fearful of everything. After awhile, you can try to feed them by holding their food bowl. Make sure they are hungry enough to want to come up to you, and then be as still as you can while they eat. You may need to portion their meals in order to get them to approach you, and it could take a few tries. After this, you can transition into hand feeding once they are pretty comfortable with coming to you for food. I wish you luck with bonding with them!

      It might sound like that. I find it to be more like a hiss that a cat would do. She does it when she doesn’t like something and usually bites the air while making the sound.

    Hello, I would like to know if there is a problem raising a pigeon alone without a partner? Is a partner helpful or a hindrance in training? And is there a problem with raising 2 males or 2 females together, in relation to training? Thanks!

    • @BubblyPetz1
      @BubblyPetz1  Před rokem

      It is fine to raise a single pigeon as long as you spend time with it and be its companion. It is better to have a single pigeon rather than a pair when it comes to training. A lone pigeon will bond with its owner and be more willing to hang around and interact with them. If you have a pair, they will depend on each other and not need you. The pair will be more difficult to train and may not achieve the same level of training that a single bonded pigeon would. Raising two males or females together with training in mind may cause issues that you’d see in a bonded pair as they can still bond to one another despite being the same sex. It is probably best to raise and establish a strong bond with one bird before acquiring another; although, if both are raised since they are babies, then they should imprint on you and be quite trainable.

    How do you keep your bird from pooping on your or your home when out of the cage?

    • @BubblyPetz1
      @BubblyPetz1  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Thanks for watching! There are reusable bird diapers/pants that you can put on your bird to prevent them from pooping everywhere, but they have to be changed every few hours and your bird may not enjoy wearing them. My pigeon hated wearing his so I just gave up and don’t make any of my birds wear them. Instead, I just clean daily and put liners over things that I don’t want to be pooped on while they are out. Usually, your bird will have their favorite spots to hang out at, so you can put papers and things to catch the majority of their droppings around there.
