  • Getting my backpack ready for a hike in the Brecon Beacons, it's being a while since this flatlander tackled some mountains! Just a quick look at my kit I am taking - I don't have masses of kit, it's expensive! So this will mostly be the same load out I use a lot.
Still a bit heavy, but I am getting that base weight down!

Hello again Bob (I assume it's Bob, is it?), I can empathize with this video. I managed to get all my gear for a one nighter (two nights ago) into a 25 L sack but boy was it a squeeze. I kipped in the Big Agnes 3 Wire Bivy. Expensive but I absolutely love it. Just wish they made it in a more discreet colour. I prefer a quilt to a mummy bag, at least that is for the summer months. The Pocket Rocket is a cracking little stove although for my last trip I took the Trangia Triangle with just a little bottle of bioethanol. Same as yourself I take a down jacket. Even in summer it can get a bit nippy when you are just sat around doing nothing. It's worth it's weight in gold (probably literally!).
    Take care

Impressed you got everything into a 25L, my packing skills are just not that good! Although using a bivy over the tent will be a bit of an advantage. Even then I think I would struggle. I haven't seen the Big Agnes bivy, but the colour of the tent is my only real drawback with it, just want something more discreet. Hope you enjoyed your trip out then, I haven't done bivy camps yet, but it's on my list to try!

@@ramblebob1 Treating myself to a bit of luxury. I've ordered the Cricket Tarp from Mountain Laurel Designs. Weighs only 368 grams but has loads of space. Easy tall enough to sit up in with a Trekker Chair. Not so much for use around here. I go to the Dark Peak quite a lot. Will be great to use out there where you don't have to be quite so paranoid about finding a spot to pitch.

Cheers, getting better at fitting things in, but so much easier when you're at home, always a bit different with the wind blowing everything about and trying to get it all neatly folded down again!
