Thanks so much for watching bros! Hopefully I helped out and didn't discourage any choices for race! I wanted to try and be unbiased towards EACH race rather than making it seem like any ONE race was an absolute "Must" pick for a class! As always, play how you want my dudes!

I know you are missing higher level features at least for the tieflings, the Zariel tieflig gets searing smite and baneshing smite at levels 3 and 5 just like in the tabletop
I love this exact approach, thank you
I know you didn't just call Githyanki "corrupted elves" lol. They're aliens to the material world, having broken away from the illithids who enslaved then. Think Drax from Guardians of the Galaxy, but 10 times meaner.
Love the positive comments around playing how you want and enjoying your escapism. Subscribed.
Can you give me advice for a good sentinal+polearm master build? Prefferably without multiclassing and as a fighter but not required. i will be playing a multi-player game and just about all my friends will be a sub-optimal build so i may need to carry.
Trust me people, the way this game is created, pick the race for reactions. I expected sorc gyth to have some unique options and i’m not disappointed.
Gyth I get but why would sorc matter?
@@warriorfire8103maybe for the dragon bloodline? A gyth with red dragon bloodline has interesting lore implications
(Lenny face here)
Because there are class specific responses as well as race specific ones.
@@warriorfire8103 as GemerzMedia said, you get unique Gith and unique Sorc dialogues. But a personal choice for myself, i always choose to be rare, Gith sorcerers are extremely rare and it's funny to be diplomat while Lae'zel just wants to destroy everything.
@@TheSacredCowtipper88Their ancestors got confused on whom was supposed to be riding whom
Friend: what are you listening to?
Me: a best race video
Friend: 🤨
I feel like the urge to have "the best" build that breaks the game and makes it laughably easy is such a current-day-internet thing. The beauty of D&D is that there is no "the best." Sure, there are certain combinations that are classics (dwarf fighter, etc.), but the game very much invites you to not min-max. If you want to go full forest gnome wild-magic-barbarian, you are more than welcome to do so. Just think of your character as a fully fleshed-out individual with its own history and personality, not just a bunch of numbers, and you'll have a great time, I promise. ☺
There's also some reason to want to make wierd esoteric race class combos.
Your forest Gnome barbarian actually has some good protection against mind saving throws.
Yup, i play whatever i want my characters to be, if a drow barbarian sounds cool, ill go with that lol
This was very necessary for me to hear! Ive been contemplating getting bg3 recently and the main pushback ive been having is just being worried that the character creation choices i make will screw me up later when in reality I really just want to play as my silly little fantasy guys.
I really needed this, Im about to play for the first time and I never played a Dnd type game before. I’m hoping to enjoy it.
Min-maxing has been a thing long before the Internet my guy. In the case of BG3 there really is no best race but there are preferred races
Goddamn the title might be click bait but that forwardness in the first 10 seconds of the video? Respect. This is why I watch your stuff. Lol
No fluff, no bullshit made up to sound smart. Just straightforward answers. Top notch.
Hahaha thanks so much man. I just want to be 100% upfront and get the info out to people so they can get on with gaming!
"We live our lives with enough constraints on them" -- Man, this is why your videos are the best. We have enough gamers telling other gamers how to game. I love how you offer advise and info but constantly remind that doing what feels organic and appealing to each is always a great way to go.
I made a drow ranger specifically because I like the idea of having 80ft of darkvision on an archer. Yep, I know they aren't the only ones with the superior darkvision but I thought it fit the concept best :)
Running a Drow Gloomstalker Ranger / Assassin Rogue for my Co-Op playthrough, it is all the edgyness!
Half drow Bard!!
Isn't it just drow and duergar that has superior dark vision?
@@thefatalsythe Deep Gnomes have it too :)
Warlock devils sight level 2 gives 80ft dark vision . Changed my build from deep to forest gnome
Should go deeper into the races as they all get extra stuff at higher levels. For instance: Whilst the Asmodeus Tiefling cantrip is underwhelming, at level 3 you get Hellish Rebuke as a race feature which is absolutely awesome for Sorcerers, Paladins, Wizards and any Spellcaster or spellcasting melee class. At level 5 they get the darkness spell they can use once per long rest. These are also things that should be considered.
AMAZING shout and totally forgot to bring that up dude. Thanks so much for keeping me honest!
For anyone that wants that full list of details, you can find it here: bg3.wiki/wiki/Races
@@italianspartacus No worries, still an awesome video with some great info. Keep up the good work!!
Lmao. I'm so glad I saw this. I made an Asmodeus Tiefling Wizard and was considering restarting when I saw this video. But good to know it's not gonna be the worst choice.
@@Dreadskull91bro that’s what I made, why would you rethink making a sexy succubus?
@@memenatsuki2577 You right, you right XD
Gith are not corrupted elves, they're a humanoid race a separate realm/crystal sphere from the one that Faerun/Toril exists on. Basically they're DnD aliens
Speak with Animals is a Ritual spell, which means you can cast it without using a spell slot. You just have to keep it prepared to keep the effect active. When you get it as a racial bonus, it's considered 'always prepared'. It's a bug that the tooltip doesn't mention Ritual on the character creation or level up screens.
for reference, ritual spells don't consume spell slots only when cast out of combat, which is not a problem in case of speak with animals, but it's worth being aware of in case of other ritual spells
Speak with animals is useless because of the disgusting amount of speak with animal potions that liter the world. If you explore enough to take advantage of speak with animals then you will have dozens of these things.
Volo also sells 5 of them every long rest if I’m not mistaken.
Duergar are a lot of fun to play! Not only do you get the normal Dwarf traits, you also get increased Darkvision (like Drow), Advantage on saving throws against illusions, charmed and paralysed. On top of that you get 2 spells, the first at level three: Enlarge, and the second at level five: invisibility. Been really enjoying playing as Duergar Oath of Vengeance Paladin!
Oooooh, thats where their racial spells went! I was like "I know Deep Gnomes and Duegar get ingrained spells, where are they?"
I've been brainstorming a Duergar Circle of Spores druid
Like some dude who said "these mushrooms are pretty cool" and somehow got to the surface
I can't tell you how appreciative I am for your style of video. there is not worse or a bigger waste of time than watch 2/3 of a video only to find out it doesn't give you the info you were looking for. Thank you so much.
Ive been dreading that im playing the game wrong this whole time. But the first mintue of your video has put some of that fear, thank you. Now, im going go make the gnome magical tank i always wanted be! And you definitely earned me as a subscriber!
Hahahahaha fuck yes dude!!! There's no wrong way brother!! :) there's SO many ways to approach this game so just have fun
You have helped me so much with getting my bearings in CK3 and now with this game!
thanks so much for all the insight and the practical explanations
Gith are one of the top races, their ability to get proficiency with all skills for any attribute is huge, and medium armor + weapon proficiencies are amazing for classes that don't get those by default. Frankly they are probably the top race for casters. Also Halflings for the "lucky" ability which basically means they are 5% better at everything.
Honestly i could tell just by my first look at them that the devs gave them plot armor
Half Elves/Humans get proficiency with light armor and (more importantly) shields. That +2AC is basically free.
Just wanna say thank you for up-fronting the base info of the video, it's a breath of fresh air.
You started the video with the best advice about race I've ever heard or given anyone playing D&D. There's always a benefit, no matter the combination.
As a person who grew up with 1st and 2nd addition the concept of race giving you armor proficiency is game changing
Right!?
I grew up with 3rd which has %arcane spell failure with armor … kind of wild a one level dip let’s you be a war-mage in armor.
@@blainem2258 i feel like spell failure needed to stay, BUT there should be more ways to mitigate that. similarly, i still feel like removing the extra feat from humans was a bad call. as they are now kinda mediocre.
@marcosdheleno I think that's somewhat the point, they're not better at anything. Though I do agree they seem a little lacking
Personally, I adore wood elves for frontline combat. Fighters, barbarian and Paladin wood elves are my style. Why? Increased movement distance and that alone is just phenomenal.
One small thing I will add, Tieflings, Githyanki, and Half-Drow get more spells as they level, gaining a new spell at level three and another at level 5, each of which can be cast once per long rest. Drow and Deurgar also get Spells at levels 3 and 5, which also can be cast once per long rest each.
Side Note: I'm loving Civil Militia allowing my Half-Drow Draconic Sorcerer to wear a shield.
I wish you would mention the cantrips certain races get on later levels that aren't shown in character creation, such as Drows getting Faerie Fire and Darkness, or Zariel Tieflings getting Smite, etc. I think those kind of cantrips increase the power of certain races a fair amount that wouldn't be apparent at first glance when choosing your race.
Yep, this is really the only relevant thing to consider with class/race choice, weird it wasn’t explored.
Or some unexplained bonuses like dragonborn resists fire but it doesn’t say by how much, while kiefling species they take exactly half damage
@@memenatsuki2577resistance always means half damage. Its either resistance, immunity or vulnerability. Vulnerability is always doable damage.
Those aren't cantrips but yeah I'm surprised they weren't mentioned
@@negljbreakergaming what are they called then?
Regarding carry capacity, you can send resources back to camp. Even containers. Those item's (which havebeen sent to camp) doesn't weight you down. And you can access them almost any time. (just click to camp button and check the "Traveller's chest"
Light armor prof is really usefull for humans, especially if you are playing as a warlock. I spent my first feat to get the moderatly armored feat. I got medium armor prof and i can wear shields, so my AC is 19 in act 1. I really enjoyed it.
I liked the wholesome message at the end~ thanks for the guide~
Your video quality hasn't gone down .. good to see your still making good videos. Keep up the good work Spartacus
Your conclusion at the end just got you a new follower!!! Couldn’t have said it better if I tried. 🎉
Speak with Animals is GREATLY useful and I haven't even gotten past Act 1 yet. Anyone who underestimates or undervalues it is objectively wrong
It's not going to be valuable to everyone but im glad it's there.
Dude, I will tell you... Your explanation of this and how you come across is top notch. I bought this game 3 years ago and messed with it back then. 600+ hrs in DOS2 " I love Larian games". This helped me out a lot. Your explanation on the classes is awesome. I'm 47yrs old btw. Been playing these kinds of games a long time. Thanks for your info and knowledge. You got yourself a new Sub! 👍👍
New to bg3 and this channel but grateful for the upfrontness. And actually opened this hoping there'd be a more saying play the one you want!
Cause I'm overwhelmed and wanna do it based on head cannon lol.
I really like that you respect your viewers' time.

Thanks mate for this video, it's very helpful, even for someone who has played a lot of Pillars of Eternity (I + II). Some of the knowledge does carry over but still need to update my understanding based on BG3's own interpretation of DnD rule set.
Never thought the best race would be one Ive been avoiding this whole time. Great vid
Thanks. This content will def help when I start this game.
Ive found a fun and shockingly effective playstyle of paladin/cleric as a brass dragonborn where i can summon water, create an electric field, have massive support benefits and capable of striking 3-4 times as a war domain cleric/paladin . Its one of the most fun playstyles ive ever used
My half high elf druid is just fine thank u. Gosh i love this game. NO MIN MAXING
Yeah, Idgaf about any of the races except for Tieflings and Dragonborn... Everyone else looks so boring.
I love your honesty and delivery. Easy subscribe for sure❤
Thank you so much!!
just bought the game and while its downloading doing some research and have to say love the no bs intro more info guides should do this
Wood (Half)Elves also get a stealth Stealth proficiency. They're excellent for Rogues, and make for solid Warlocks as well (especially if you're doing a rogue-like warlock build). I expect they'd do nicely for Monk as well. The main thing to choose between them is the weapon proficiency set. Dancing Lights is not a great cantrip. The Half Drow is the weakest by far of the Half Elf variants. It doesn't even get improved darkvision.
Gnomes are crazy good, but they're Gnomes and Gnomes are horrible.
Shield (Mountain) Dwarf is horrible now unless you're going with a caster and want medium armor.
The Halfling core abilities are solid, especially Lucky, but their speed reduction is frustrating, especially compared to the Wood Elf variants.
Dragonborn look epic and give you your choice of elemental resistance, which is even better if you combine it with a different variant of Draconic Sorcerer (it can also look amazing) for stacking two different elemental resistances (fire and lightning or cold are solid combinations).
The Githyanki ability to completely dump one entire attribute line of skills and then pick up the full set is crazy good, but they just look so stupid. Their psionics are solid, too.
Half Orc is the best Barbarian race because of its weapon die crit boost, which synergizes with the Barbarian feature, since both add a bonus die. This makes them prefer the d10 and d12 weapons over the 2d6 ones for crit damage spiking, unlike the Fighter which favors the 2d6 two-handed weapons for the better average damage results.
I made half wood elf sorc cuz so pretty
Helpful, thank you.
I like how you explain everything it really helped me too be who I want too play as so thank you
Thanks for the video, I like that you up front the knowledge
Just found your channel, and I have to say that the comment you make at the end of this video enticed me to subscribe. We DO have enough BS going on in our day to day lives that we should be able to play as we please. Thank you.
Honestly this video was a breath of fresh air the honstey displayed in the first couple of minutes convinced me to not only watch the but subscribe as well good on yah
hey man love your content here and with Diablo4! I love you lay the info out up front and I make sure to finish the video if the info is useful; which it pretty much is every single time. Keep up the good work!
I can’t tell ya how excited I am that you’re covering this wonderful masterpiece of a game.
I really appreciate the honesty right up front
I know I'm late but I think the Deep Gnome is slept on. Any sort of ranged damage dealer that wants to hide will get a huge boost from the race. Pretty much anything that uses Thief 3 will be able to take full advantage of it and coming standard with Superior Darkvision more than makes up for the movement speed penalty imo.
This video format is excellent. Thank you for being up front and honest with the info. I didn't come here for that specifically, but I appreciate it regardless. I just came here for a complete breakdown of racial abilities since the wiki is slow to update
I can see about doing that for you :) thanks so much for watching dude
As a high elf, if you arent playing as a wizard, pick a utility cantrip like light or mage hand. You dont do less damage with low intelligence, but theres a much higher chance that youll just completely miss the cantrip
Drow subrace also gives MANY many dialogue options in act 1.
We're you Lolth sworn or Seldarine?
Fantastic video format, like bloody pristine!!! I wish I could subscribe all over again.
Hell yeah, another banger 🔥 🙌 ❤
YOU BETTER BE ON STREAM TOMORROW EMBER!
Upvoted for putting vital information upfront.
Subscribed after seeing you’re still making Baldur’s Gate 3 content.
ItlalianSpartacus, this is a great video! Your style is both informative AND fun!
Will be a happy viewer of you going forward!
This is a very refreshing intro message for a game tips video
Level 3 Githyanki Bard- Proficient in 13 out of 18 skills, and I have Jack of All Trades for the other 5 proficiencies! Add on top of that the Medium Armor Proficiency and Mage Hand Cantrip!
Edit: I forgot to add that since I got the Deluxe Edition, I also have the Mask of Illusion which allows me to turn into any race, in case anyone I talk to is put off by githyanki!
If you don't have mask of illusion, disguise self is only a 1st level spell, and is available to all or most arcane casters
Pay to win! Hahaha 😂 (jk)
I've tried a few character combos, and the last I did was a Githyanki bard, and I like it the best so far.
You're honesty in the first couple minutes of the video earned you my respect and sub, keep up the good work.
I appreciate that!! Thanks so much for watching brother
Thank you, character selection is super intimidating
An additional advantage of wood-elf and half wood-elves, they get stealth (and nature for pure wood-elves) proficiency for free, so for rogue, they get faster and get a proficiency they profit a lot from for free.
I don't know why the free proficiencies are not listed by the race features, bc not all races get one. Laran studios should change that
You are also missing the “Mask of the Wild” (perception proficiency) wood elf racial feature.
Though it is no longer listed in the “racial features” tab, wood elves still have it in the “skills” section at the end.
This is both confusing and frustrating.
@@Mavryck_Tha_Myghty
When 5e came out I made a Wood Elf Shadow Monk.
So many great synergies between racial features/skills and the Dex/Wis focus of a Monk. 50' movement, stealth, perception, longbow proficiency and then toss in Shadow Step.
He's murderous and hilariously fun to play, if a bit risky at times.
Dude bravo, best video on this topic on CZcams hands down. After like 4 mins I knew I needed to create a playlist full of your BG3 videos and just binge. I've learnt so much already. Oh and I subscribed too
Thank you so much man, very very kind of you!
Thanks for clearing that up in the first 10 seconds of the video. We all really appreciate it. I'm sure! liked and subscribed
My pleasure brother :)
Love the vids man. I also discovered that Half-Elves and Humans have a pretty good advantage being Wizards and Sorcerers. They're innately proficient in Shields, which wizards aren't and it stacks with Mage Armor :)
I absolutely love the fact you said to just enjoy the game and not sweat the class and race of your character. I see too many videos that do that and I choose not to view them alot of the times, cause it stops being fun and becomes work.
Even as a player with no experience in paper RPGs, as soon as I saw the happiness of halflings, I immediately thought it was OP.
Unfortunately, the halflings seemed so uninteresting to me that I couldn't choose them. And this look is on the default form of a halfling... a tragedy xD
0:32
and this is why I subscribed 30 seconds into my first watch of any of your videos.
I will follow the example
subbed, liked, and commenting, thank you so much for the help my friend! gl in your quests!
You know I came for the title but I’ll watch the full video because you got to the point at the VERY beginning I’ll even subscribe cause your honest so thanks
Great job thanks very much for the info
Man, the first sentece in this video and you got a like from me. Thanks
Great vid mate thx a lot 😊
Gith is very strong IMO with darkvision and astral bonus to all skills for a attribute till long rest, spectral hand and jump at later level. Also they get light/medium armor, long/great sword. This is a huge number of abilites
Gith don’t get darkvision
But they look derpy AF
@@MGC-XIII true. If you have the deluxe edition stuff then there’s a hat in your camp chest that lets you cast disguise self as much as you want.
They're crazy good for pact of the blade warlocks. Instead of having to take the feat for medium armor you can grab resilient for the +1 to con and proficiency to make your concentration checks easier. And astral knowledge lets you get all the charisma skills without needing beguiling influence.
No darkvision with gith but it is no big deal, just use a out of party caster to lay down some until long rest buffs. Mainly darkvision, but longstrider is nice too. Astral knowledge + martial prodigy can save you 5 proficiencies (INT/WIS or 4 with CHA) and a feat for medium armor for some classes. Spectral hand, jump, and misty step save spell slots. Ironically all this makes gith lore bards probably the best support/utility build in the game. Hard to imagine gith bards but w/e...
They're kinda ugly but mask of the shapeshifter or the amulet with disguise self gives that to you as a cantrip...
The fact the every video I've seen has different best and worst exemplifies the wonderful complexity of this game.
Wood half elf for my 1st run and I'm so glad I did. The human feature of diverse weapon and armor proficiency and the elf trait of movement speed has made my fighter/tank a great center piece for different team setups
I have found that the best feat to have was a race with Darkvision, especially for a range type character. But all are good.
bro @ 1:14 you got me, instant subscribe because of that little bit philosophy. thank you!
Honestly ive been getting annoyed with some BG3 content where they really dont give the information they say theyll give in the video titles so you prefacing at the beginning that lil tidbit saved me so much time and def got yourself a like and new subscriber
thanks so much brother! did the video actually help though? if you're looking for specific topics, let me know, happy to cover more stuff :)
I've made a half orc assassin. My idea was first turn massive critical blows. Unfortunately only apply for melee hits and seems not working how I've planned, but I'm enjoying it very much
Just earned a well deserved subscriber from me, I’ve just binged 4 of your videos lol
I love the honesty thank you
It kind of bothers me that the game doesn’t tell you about the things that races get at higher levels. Like drow magic or the smites Zariel tieflings get at 3 and 5
New to this channel love your content . Long time D&D player but im new to baulders gate 3 loved the first games. Jjsttrying to learn mechanics of this game lol
Besides Half-Orcs for specific melee builds, I think Deep Gnomes are the power gamer's choice. Advantage on all the mental saving throws and superior darkvision are really, really good. Advantage on stealth is a nice to have but I have found stealth to be underwhelming because of the vision cones.
I've revised my assessment and think Githyanki are the power gamers choice. Getting proficiency in an entire attribute worth of skills is absurdly good. I started a Gith Knowledge Cleric with Urchin background. This alone gives me proficiency in all Wis and Cha skills, 3 of the four knowledge skills, stealth, and sleight of hand. I'm only missing Athletics, Acrobatics, Investigation, and one knowledge (History).
Taking a level in ranger would give me Investigation and Athletics but I'm not sure I'll do that over Wizard since you can learn all Wizard spells with one level in the class. Although your casting ability is Int for those spells, it doesn't matter for buffs like Mirror Image, cutting off ranged attacks with Darkness, or summoning an elemental.
Gith also get medium armor proficiency and proficiency with each of a finesse, versatile, and great weapon, which is value added on any non-martial class. Since Knowledge Clerics only have moderate use of their bonus action (Healing Word, Sanctuary, Spiritual Weapon), dual wielding short swords and pumping dex as a secondary stat is pretty solid, but you can also just use a short sword and shield for the extra AC.
"But what about darkvision?" Just use Gale or a Wizard hireling to cast Darkvision on you back at camp. Darkvision on your racial choice has zero added value because of this. Only superior darkvision has added value.
As far as the race spells, they don’t operate off of spell slots generally ever. They’re not cantrips per say, but in the dnd books they’re generally couched with “you can cast this without expending a spell slot once per long rest.” Or something like that.
16:20 i'd say that warlock ork is pretty nice both when you roleplay as the more of evil guy and also initiating with Paralyze humanoid spell, coupled with their insane crit buff it's jsut amazing
Loved your intro!
6:04 I started a playthrough as a Dark Urge Lolth Drow Monk. I'm amazed how much Drow RP there is. It's a great way to play the game.
This is the video I was looking for but because of the title I was not sure if it would be the right one ^^'
Haven't got the game yet, but love tieflings so when I finally get around to getting it, tiefling
Planning to run a Tiefling Bard when I start playing tonight.
Note that Half Orcs rolled an extra weapon die on crits, so they COULD get 3x, but most likely somewhere between 2 and 3. Its been updated ingame.
you're probably the best youtuber for information on games
Thanks for the video
Nah Tiefling is the best race for all classes because they have hornz and it looks coel
This is good to hear, I was in between a half-elf and a halfling lol
Waiting for console, but very much considering a wood gnome Druid as my character.
Speak to animals and being able to turn into an animal would be dope imo
First time watching your videos. I enjoyed myself.
Hell yeah!
In my 2nd playthrough I decided for a evil monk halfling just cause it would be helarious and interesting to see him lead my group. Called him something like "Bitchslap-Bilbo" if id had to translate it.
But a super tanky "fortress of faith" :D dwarf paladin or a woodelf/halfelf ranger or halforc melee fighter is equally as tempting. This game is just too much fun to explore..
I was really hyped to play BG3 to see my Aasimar psion in 4k glory. So much for that idea.
Just you wait brother. I don't wanna spoil anything
Medium armor proficiency is slept on in the fact that a bunch of magic boots gloves and helms are medium and even if your chest is light armor you can’t utilize the Magic equipment that you may want or benefit you, also having it as a caster is very nice
What do you suggest for a necromancer? I'm thinking white dragonborn, but I'm wondering if anything else will have more synergy
warlock halfling for my first playthrough(I will play a lot more)... So far my strongest weapon is the mouth..I can gaslight a character into suicide. 10/10
Thank you…I usually go with the elven or gith races myself but I’m trying to get my husband into the game…he’s not a gamer so I have the helm so to speak for the battles, but all decisions are his. He went with a deep gnome ranger…I had no idea what to expect with this play though so this helps.
Agree, this game is my escape from real life, thanks for the reminder
