Great review, Jason! This Berny brought back memories, the SNK809 was my first-ever mechanical watch and gateway into this hobby.
Exactly what I say, prefect starter watch!
Great video as usual, Jason. As an owner of an SNK809 as well as a few other (both modern and vintage) Seiko Fives, I really like this concept, and of course the value as well (which we get with Berny regardless the crappy name lol). As much as I love having a little mechanical machine on my wrist with cogs and springs, sometimes a quartz feels practical and right and the VH31 is totally brilliant IMHO. My only gripe against quartz is watching the seconds hand missing the markers, which happens too often even with more expensive brands.
Here we don't have to worry about that. My Escapement Time made me a huge fan of this movement, and really made me hope we'd see it in more watches (which seems to be happening).
When it comes to titanium though, I'm actually kinda divided. I own two titanium watches in which both that material just came with the design/specs I liked. The Heimdallr was a quirky fun take on the SKX with a spectacular orange dial and indicies from another Seiko model. My Zelos Swordfish also happened to be in titanium. Both of these watches are ridiculously light, which is the great advantage you get from titanium.
However, the sensitivity to scrathes really bugs me. Especially on the Zelos, which I always put back in the box when not using, still got lots of scratches during just a couple of years. If I got this one, I'd put it on some pilot inspired leather strap to avoid such issues, and being a pilot/flieger/field watch model it would suit it.
This is an amazing watch for less than £60! Titanium case, sapphire crystal and a pinch of AR, and a sweeping quartz movement, plus solid links. I can forgive a pressed clasp on this and the gaps in the endlinks and the case. Besides, I'd put it on a nice outdoors leather strap for that adventuring look and super light weight. I'm going to look for this in the next sale.
Fantastic for the price really! I think I'm going to order some parts and make a nice little mod out of this one
Great review Jason. This is a phenomenal little watch for the price. Really cool. Hope all is well mate.
You're spot on Felo! All good over this side, hope the States are treating you well
Video Request:
Watch Project Mod On This Watch Involving a TearDown, Dial Modernization, Movement Swap To Automatic, or To a SmartWatch That Uses Wear OS.
That Would Be An Epic Video.
Thanks For The Awesome Review.
✌️🖖
everybody does a better job than mediocre seiko
You're not wrong Tommy!
Seriously. If Seiko did this, they'd charge $400 and skip the sapphire and guaranteed hollow end links. Plus unsigned crown. LOL!
Somehow misalign the blank bezel 😂
@JasonTheWatchGuy look at their POS SKX mineral glass, no hacking, no hand winding, stamped clasp. whats not to like!😃
as long as the seiko movement still dominates the market, they just smile seeing this 😂
I’ve got this very one and am wearing it as I type. Lovely lightweight watch.
Awsome stuff
I have the watch with the fabric strap, which is of excellent quality and has lovely matching titanium hardware, but I picked that option because I got the watch just when it was released and the titanium bracelet was not yet an option. I ended up buying separately because I wear the watch a whole lot - it's great. Even though they're not the cheapest I would say if you own that watch it is worth buying the other option from Berny so you have both. The straps in your collection won't have branded titanium hardware to match.
Very informative, what’s the largest wrist size in inches on the titanium bracelet?
Hi Jason, thanks for the vid. Is the lug to lug really 42.5mm? I just want to confirm as the specs on the AliExpress link says 45mm
I bought the black version with the new branding (Thank Goodness for that). It's really, really great value for the price, and the bracelet is even half decent.
I have this exact green dial V2 with titanium bracelet. I also have an SNK803. About the only area the Berny doesn't exceed the Seiko is the lume. It isn't terrible, but it isn't as good as the lumibright on the Seiko.
I like the name it sounds almost Swiss.
Hello Jason it's a great watch I just received my Berny dive helmet watch with orange indices with black dial super easy to read and over all excellent build quality I have been thinking on getting one of those that you are reviewing here but in blue , I kind of like to have a date display on my watches so we will see ! Cheers 🍻
I'm a fan of a date window myself, I can let this one slide though! Enjoy the divers helmet
The SNK may be officially discontinued, but new watched still available from the usual Singapore shops. Worth mentioning that the SNK has 18mm lugs so this it possibly better with 20. This Berny would look great with an SKX dial and some mad hands.
The clasp on these bands is sharp and hurts if you wear it enough and put pressure on the clasp. I replaced with nylon band and never looked back.
The only negative to this watch is the fact that is so thin, much more thinner than its Japanese Seiko original model. It would be better in my opinion in a stainless steel case. All in all a brilliant Berny piece.
yep a stainless steel case would have been much better.
They seems to have missed an opportunity with this. Hopefully the V2 will reflect your thoughts on how they could up their game and the water resistance to 100m. Another great video Jason.
This is a V2 (T2566M, V1 was Berny-Men Quartz Titanium Field Watch-T2526M)
Third time is a charm hopefully haha
How much water resistance does a Seiko 809 it homages have ?
an absolute bargain but ihave pilot watches and woul love to see this with different dial options, have you seen the firstime titanium watch on the berny store ? is it a berny sub-brand ? looks good for 32 quid
Wait for the mod video, could be something for you there! I've spotted it, some real value there
I’m slightly defensive of this particular Seiko, like so many others in the hobby, this was my first auto, so for all it’s quirks, it occupies a unique place in my collecting journey. This isn’t a bad homage, but not a titanium fan, and this quartz movement misses the mark for me, the sweeping second hand of the Seiko is one of the smoothest I’ve ever seen. Sad they discontinued it😢
No brainer beater watch !! got the stealthy black dial version
Smart choice! Enjoy
Berny has some great quality watchrs. You cant build them from scratch parts for less.
Had mine in hand whilst watching....it's an almost watch, a couple of adjustments here and there and it could be great, which you covered....I only used the micro so larger wrists beware....on wrist this feels great and the removal of the brand name should be a real boon for sales....the lume lasts long enough, once charged your going to get a good few hours over night and like all good field watches it doesn't do a Chernobyl....if we can only get one improvement for the next version then let it be increased WR....If berny plays there cards right they've got real legs in this model....hope they go for it....🏴⌚🏴⌚
An increase in the WR would seal it as a great under £100. I'm really looking forward to modding it in the coming weeks, think it'll be something pretty special
@@JasonTheWatchGuy looking forward to seeing what you come with....it's a great base to start with....
Hi Jason.
Great watch for us ‘outdoor people’.
Pretty good for £60, being titanium.
What’s it’s weight please?
All the best.👍🏾🇬🇧
You're dead right, comes in around the 40g mark
@@JasonTheWatchGuy Thanks Jase.
I wish they made longer non-diver 20mm silicon straps. Love this watch, but it would not fit.
as a noob in the watch world thats used to daily wearing my deceased fathers old wenger military watch... ive been wanting a new watch & ive got a nickel allergy to deal with, so im lookin at this excat watch id just saw on amazon... so question for anybody that suffers from a nick allergy... is this watch, what u guys that know watches, would consider "hypoallergenic"? ...enjoyed ur video sir, so consider me a new subscriber. thank u
Хотел купить - теперь не куплю. ) Спасибо за обзор. )
If you need a brand name to feel secure - you are sad.
