- This week was a super interesting Fozcast episode. Myself and Tom welcomed Doctor Suzanne Brown, who is a professional Psychologist that has worked with the likes of Arsenal, Birmingham City the RFU and many more.
We talked about the importance of Psychology in football and sport, and how this can translate to everyday life also. Also, I tell the story of how we (Birmingham City) went one nill up against Arsenal in the League cup final before a ball was even kicked all those years ago!

THE HOME OF THE FOZCAST - THE BEN FOSTER PODCAST - CHECK IT OUT 👇👇👇
1millstreet.com/ - Sport
Ben has only gone and done it! He surpassed Gary Cahill this Saturday with the most minutes played in the Premier League! Congratulations Fozzy!
Is that true would have thought surely Seaman or Cech would be record??
@@onlyfacts9969 it’s facts Foster 33,429 Gary Cahill 33,374 petr cech 33,324 Gareth Barry 33,211 Leighton baines 32,316
@@masonstanley01 ahhh minutes makes sense as obviously Gaz Baz has most appearances
@@onlyfacts9969 Yh makes sense that a goalie has the most as they very rarely get subbed off, think it’s only James Milner that could catch Gareth Barry for appearances and Milner is like 2,000 minutes off Ben foster for minutes played still a massive achievement for Fozzy
@@masonstanley01 top keeper only dropped into championship 2 season out of about 20
Fascinating podcast. Think the mics a little far away from Suzanne though as she kept being quiet then loud. Or maybe some sort of noise gate setting or something not sure. Got a bit frustrating to listen to with headphones on. Great content though. Terraria is fire btw! great game
Seems like the mic over correcting the gain when shes talking. Seems like a mixing setting to me
I think she wasn’t near the microphone
Just gotta lower the threshold on the gate so it’s not closing when the audio is still coming in. Otherwise this was a great listen.
I’m glad I found this comment wasn’t sure if it was just me. I couldn’t listen past 5 minutes it was so annoying, couldn’t concentrate on it. Shame really 😩
No issues with sound for me
Well done Ben! You don’t see a lot of people really bringing light to this major topic. Class podcast 🙌
Ledge 🙌🏻
Recognised his talent when he was a young keeper, never appreciated him when he was at man u as a player, but have a new found respect for him not only as a professional but also as a voice in the CZcams/Spotify hemisphere. Fantastic topic that had me throughly engrossed, sorry Foz your an absolute legend!!!! Top man
I can imagine Ben just sitting there playing terraria. It’s a OG game
It would be great to get Suzanne back on again. She could talk about her career, how she got into sports psychology specifically, bet it would be really interesting 😊
There was a podcast where people were talking with a player liaison officer (someone who helps footballers outside of football, like with finding a house). that person with a psychologist would be really interesting
Congratulations on returning from injury looking forward to match day vlogs. You made me look out for Watford games as a Manchester United fan
Your content is unmatched in the football space
A really interesting and inspiring topic. Thank you very much for everyone involved. UP THE FOZCAST!!
Absolutely smashed it again. You're one of the most interesting and informative podcasts around, you're all doing such a great job!!
I could listen to Ben all day...he is so genuinely honest when telling stories...no big star bullshit...like Maurinho said....respect, respect, respect to u man
Yes Ben you friggin legend
Love the breadth of coverage in this podcast - touching some deep elements and acknowledging the pains and problems across not only the football and sports industry, but across the board and relevant to everyone day to day. Thank you @CyclingGK and team for opening up about what is very personal thing
This podcast getting better every episode... CLASS!!! 🙌🙌🙌 Up the Fozcast!!
Thank you for putting this out there and speaking about it. This is such an important topic that is overlooked. I think it needs to start from a younger age and parents need more awareness of this. I am not trained in the subject, so I am very careful what I teach/ tell my son at the age of 6. But we do small things, like clean his boots after every training session/ Match so every session is a fresh start. Whether the previous session was good or bad, we start again and live in the moment (or at least try). The boots act as a visual reminder. This does not just count for kids into sports. The modern world has brought modern problems and our kids need help in how to deal with these pressures. Thanks Fozcast team.
I'm not joking when I say this is the best podcast episode I have ever listened to bar none. The insight that Suzanne gives alongside Ben and Tom's intricate questions makes me feel like I'm the one being spoken to, it's so informative. Thanks for the episode!
So glad to see you invited Dr Suzanna on Fozzie. Helping to bring awareness to these issues that are systemic in society and sports in general. My grandad put it best for me, "Men that don't cry swing from trees". It takes courage to face your inner demons.
That was such a great podcast and interview. Ben and Tom compliment each other very well and the guests have been great. Really enjoyed this one and I feel like it helped me in my life and line of work. Thank you Ben and all of the people behind the scenes on the Fozcast.
I really, really needed to hear this at the moment. Another immense pod gents, please keep it going. Up The Fozcast 💪
I've been going through some mental stuff lately. This ep couldn't have come at a better time 🙂
Keep going mate. It’s always temporary.
As a person who suffers from anxiety in sports, this has given me a different perspective on how to deal with my issues going forward. Well done Fozcast team!!
Amazing - so happy to hear you talking about mental health/psychology like this, especially with your young/male audience. (I'm an old codger now). what a legend
yes!! this is what I have been waiting for a long time. Psychology is hugely underrated and not talk about enough in sport. Nice one!
Absolutely great podcast guys, really made true sense to me and resonated so much. Keep it up guys thank you!👍
I'm getting my degree in physiotherapy in three days, which all started from my love of sports and footy.. Watching this kinda stuff is amazing, it really can't be overstated the importance of not just physical but mental fitness and fortitude! Foz you ledge!
Great episode! All coaches should listen to this one - excellent insights. Thanks Ben and team!
Such a superb podcast yet again! Shedding light on something that's not highlighted enough! Top work again Foz!🙌
Absolutely class episode. Im a Division 1 athlete in the United States, and i struggled a lot with mental health throughout my college career. I finally wisened up and went and got help and it was life changing. Since then I have always tried to share my story and encourage people to go see someone, even when they are feeling good mentally. Ben Foster, second favorite keeper in the Prem now, right behind Ramsdale. Sorry mate, Arsenal fan here.
Terrific Ben, as a medical professional who sees men/women struggling with mental fitness, you are doing a great deal to help 👍
Such an insightful conversation! Just honesty and respect for the research - up the Fozcast!
🙌🏻
Wow listening to this podcast has inadvertently helped me with some mental health issues I was facing recently! Great pod from all of you and would be sick to see Suzanne back on to discuss other elements of sport too 🙌🏿
Absolutely love the channel getting an insight into the world of a professional footballer and from the people behind the scenes too. It's brilliant that a legend like you is doing this keep up the fantastic work 👍 keep those hands clean. #up the fozcast👊
amazing to listen, while you were talking, i went trough my amateur career and on that lvl it is still relatable to what you are saying for professionals. Thanks dr Suzanne for joining, looking forward to more of content. cheers guys
As someone who is aspiring to be a sports psychologist, this has certainly helped!! Thanks Ben for making this happen!
Absolutely brilliant episode lads. So interesting and informative.
What an unreal podcast! Ben and Tom yous are two weapons!!
Loved it so intresting ben thank you. More please. Up The Fozcast
Amazing podcast! It so great to see other side of the football, please bring more interesting themes and guests! Respect
Awesome insight. In competitive sports everyone is looking for the extra 1%, yet sports psychology is largely ignored - absolutely crazy. Top podcast, looking forward to part two.
Great podcast, really interesting topic & enjoyed the insights & stories on the psychology of sport. Loved it
Excellent episode. A topic very few of people want to talk about in general. Interesting to see the sports perspective.
A lot of this applies to other facets of life. Love the Podcast. Never miss an episode. Greetings from Canada!
Fascinating episode. Great work as always 👍
Great Episode fellas . This sort of conversation is greatly needed in the sporting industry
Obsessed with the Podcast and I learn so much from the topics you talk about and will definitely try some animated joke on them. Thank you!
Fantastic insight into the mental life of being a sportsman ....so much is transferable to our home and work life. Up the Fozcast 👍
Absolutely fascinating pod lads. Well done.
Excellent. Needs it own series
Amazed by the pod😍
Amazing job Ben, rhino and Dr suzanne brown
Really insightful guys. I can totally agree with you saying 'you went into every game thinking hope this doesnt go wrong or muck up' i do that in every single game i play and it cant be good!
Another brilliant one Ben! Loving it as always!
Ledge 🙌🏻
Been waiting for the latest Fozcast.
Another great one too.
All the best 👍🏽
🙌🏻
Ben man , this episode was gold !!!
Hope you do more mental health stuff , it's so important!!!
Dr Brown is amazing....
All the best...👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Great podcast guys, really enjoyed and really interesting topic👍⚽️
One of the best videos you guys have ever made
Another excellent podcast. A thought provoking and informative episode.
Thank you for this episode.
The football fandom does not treat players like humans. Player ratings is essentially an entertainment product review, but it really dehumanizes the players. No thought get put into what the players had to go through in their previous matches, or what they had to go through during injury layoffs, etc. Expecting players to work 100% every time they are on the pitch, like turning on a phone.
Fascinating ! So much of this applies in my line of work. I hope you were serious when you were talking about a part 2 on retirement, looking forward. Just saw the Totti TV fiction series which basically on the story of his retirement, quite interesting .
Hello Fozcast. Absolutely enjoying the interesting and insightful content!
I do feel that the audio coming out of the guest seems to be less clear compared to the both of you. Rambo's was a tad soft and Dr Suzanne's seems to be in and out. Please look into it. Thanks from down under.
Absolutely quality this
Wow! Amazing episode! Great guest!
Ben, an American here. Ted Lasso is HUGE here in America. We adore it. Cannot wait for the new season. This episode is great, and kept bringing back thoughts of Ted Lasso.
Another great one. In the states here, we love Ted Lasso - and I also had the opportunity of a psychologist playing football at college, but its certainly not standard practice.
Amazing guest guys. Really enjoyed this one
Just a brilliant and unique podcast. A real insight into the life and pressures of professional sports and their key mental challenges. What makes a great leader is one of the old age questions. I agree with a lot of generic comments re: Communication, empathy and planning etc. However, I have found it to be very sector/situation specific. Those that can transfer across sectors and work effectively are great leaders.
Brilliant podcast this - psychology is such an important part of the game and it's unbelievable that today most clubs don't cater for this.
Really Enjoyed that! Great watch as per! Up the fozcast!
Thanks 💪🏻
Another great episode, really fascinating listen
Thanks
Can't wait to watch this instead of working
Suzanne's mic has issues btw
Class podcast with a class guest
The sounds messed up. The woman’s mic keeps turning down and up I can’t make it out
Sound is slightly odd on this one, was there no proof check on the audio... had to stop the video 5mins in, sorry.
TOP TIER PODCAST
this is such an amazing listen.
Thanks 🙌🏻
Fantastic podcast, I enjoyed this episode a lot.
Thanks
This was a cracking conversation by the way
Great podcast 👏
Simply superb again. Really interesting as always. Mental heath still has a stigma in 2018 I lost my father and on the day of the funeral the family home of 22 years caught fire making us homeless the business was based at home so lost everything I have always had a positive attitude and that was a test with the help of my emotional coach she helped through the bad times and now the company faroutsounds is rebuilt employs 20 people and is growing fast even through a pandemic I still see my coach now to help in the good times the coping mechanism I use have made me a better partner father human being
Proud of you Dan! I’m sure your fathers looking at you with proud with sweaty eyes
Yes well done mate and so great that you have turned it around.
Viewer from Houston, TX in the U.S. (proper shorts and flip flop weather btw so a move to Houston Dynamo would be in cards for an MLS move 👀). I really enjoyed this episode of the podcast being a young adult with many interests, football being one since growing up here in the states, along with things like music production and craftsmanship. Suzanne also broke me when she said 24 year olds aren’t fully grown adults yet even though we think of them as such; my 24th birthday was 3 days ago ahaha. Thanks again for the content Ben, Tom, Frank and all of your team!
The Birmingham vs Arsenal story gave me goosebumps!
Love the show but you gotta fix the mics. Was a struggle to hear what the Doc was saying because her voice kept dipping in and out. Noticed it with Rambo the other week too.
Really interesting topic.
Seriously good podcast that.
Amazing podcast would’ve really needed this 4 years ago when i was first team bound at 16 but decided to quit on football because there was too much pressure on my life and my mental state was fucked
Hey Ben I tried to listen to this with headphones and just couldn’t do it. Hopefully there’s a way to fix this in post
Great video Ben i have often wondered about the lads that teams let go when they are 16/17 sometimes older when they might have been with a club since age 6 and they have no reason to think they are not going to make it until the bomb shell is dropped and they are out. It must be devastating to some depending on their mindset even though some maybe get taken on by other clubs, but it is the ones that don't. I suppose it also includes players when they make it through to 35 and hang their boots up, although i know quite a few have outside interests and now that really must help but again it is the ones that haven't it must be such a come down.
Really interesting podcast. Nice work. Suzanne's mic makes it a really hard listen though.
top podcast
Top podcast
Audio killed it for me, usually love your stuff Ben! But the mic cutting in and out on Suzanne’s mic was too much, I tried to listen but only made it to 5:24 😂 looking forward to the next one
Entertainment right here
Great insight!
Thanks
Another great episode from a completely new and important perspective. Although mental health services have come along way there still lots to do.
On a side note really want to know what fozzy would say the biggest howler he committed was ? (Aside from Paul Robinson's goal , weren't his fault 😉)
Really interesting
I've just realised what puts you above other podcasts.
You can tell how much Ben is interested in the guest, you can see his genuine excitement when talking, especially here he's like, wow I've never thought like that before.
It goes for everything, but if you see someone enjoying what they are doing it brings another level of enjoyment to watching/ experiencing them doing it.
Fantastic content.
Thanks 💪🏻
Great podcast but too many adverts.
Keep up the good work and insightful content. Well done.
Interesting. I think clubs may be wary of having a psychologist at the club because the manager sees himself as the psychologist, and he doesn't want someone else interfering with his player 's mental states
Great one lads!
Ledge 💪🏻
Covid being some of the best moments of ur life wow must be nice. Imagine spending in a studio flat.
