CORRECTION: Device takes 2xAAA batteries (I incorrectly stated AA in the video)
I like your review! Great job! I think I might buy this.
thank you - recommend adding additional metal bars to your basket (sold in packs of 10); if you have multiple bottles you want to mix!
Mine arrives tomorrow! 🤙🤙
awesome! its a great little gadget!
I was wondering about mixing the glass ball beads with the metal rods thank you
Nice review!
Thank you!
Good detail review
Thanks dude, I only film once, so hopefully covered enough points!
Is there a part 2? Interested in how this works with metal balls and how your experience has been so far. Good video.
Will likely do a follow up video soon!
I was curious if you were still planning to do a part 2 of this video? Specifically, have you tried bearings/balls with the mixer and what was your results with them? Also, which balls did you have success with, I’m presuming they would have to be made from the same 440c stainless steel as the rods. If so, have you experienced any rust from the balls in your paint?
Thanks, keep up the good quality videos.
i may follow up with a part 2 when i get back to making more tool reviews.
using the tool with just metal balls doesnt work as well as the original bar, as the balls are magnetised to each other and the effect is reduced.
I use mr hobby metal balls and the dspaie metal rods and have not had any rusting occur (just over a year of use)
@@oldskoolskillYT thank you for responding so quick. Looks like I’m now on the hunt for a bunch of those rods.
I’m curious if you think a larger ball bearing would work better, say around the 5 - 6mm range. Maybe a single larger ball would be better then two or more smaller balls?
Might bite the bullet and find some 440c balls on Amazon and try it out. Only $10 so why not.
Is the mixing apparatus in the liquid magnetic?
Is it possible to use it without cover ?(White mixing paint)
The bars supplied are just metal rods. The magnetic part is the motor in the unit itself. For the speed this can get up to(especially on usb power) I wouldn't recommend mixing without lid on.
Hi, it's possible too using this with the Humbrol or Revell metal jar ??? Thanks.....
sadly i dont have those in my tool collection so can only comment on the tamiya jars. (40cm wide)
The metal bars are 20cm in length so as long as there is room for this to spin at the bottom, it should work
Another thing to consider is that the Press down Vortex mixer has a risk of giving you permanent nerve damage from the vibrations, that's why they've been banned from Labs and subsequently marketed at hobbyists. All Labs now use magnetic stirrers and they are more or less the same price as the vortex ones on amazon. Also a lot of CZcams videos on how to DIY build your own mag mixers from a PC fan and some magnets.
Didn't realize about the pc fan method! Definitely will research into it as a backup, should this particular unit fail!
Fair point, but lots of things we do in this hobby is not "healthy" and as long as you don't do it all day long, then its probably ok, besides, you cant use a stirrer with dropper bottles unfortunately.
Woot
it's possible too using this with the vallejo or Mig plastic jar ?
I believe the paint would need to be thinned for the bar to get up to speed.
The metal bars are 20mm wide so would be in a container with a larger base and as flat as possible.
@@oldskoolskillYT maybe i can have the same effect with the small metal ball for mix this kind of plastic jar. I suppose if it's magnetic may can work ?! bye example, if i put two small meetalic balls in the bottle...
What happens at 7:10? Vortex goes to big turbulence
Looks like the bar was off centre.
You should also try two metal rods to see what's happened.
Iwill be uploading a part two (once metal balls are delivered). I'll add the two rod test to the list
@@oldskoolskillYT Just ordered one, any thoughts on metal ball already in the bottle and add one rod vs. one rod only. Also can one rod only mix surfacer good enough so the bottom surfacer separated?
@@calvin14888 I've found one rod in thinned paint more than enough (when using usb power).
On battery power the effect is still good, though may struggle in an unthined primer.
I like it just seems like getting that rods out would be a pain if u wanted to put it in a different one
Cant imagine a need to swap out the bars (unless it went rusty).
However easiest method to extract the bars is to use a magnet to pull the bar up the bottle and out.
@@oldskoolskillYT I just meant if you needed to mix another bottle and you didn't have extra bars left
@@masonchapman361 I see! Then magnet trick would work well to extract them! Dspaie do sell the bars separately, in packs of 10. So should be enough to cover multiple bottles
Thorough review thank you!
I wonder if it would work with dropper bottles.
The tiny metal rods look a little too large for army painter or Vallejo droppers.
And I'm not sure steel balls can do that vortex thingy.
If you try would you let us know in the description or comments maybe ? Thanks
Sadly they are to large for most acrylic paint bottles. no room for them to spin. Better off with glass balls and vortex mixer for those.
@@oldskoolskillYT Thanks for the swift answer! Well it's a little disappointing but to be expected!
