    My favorite scene in this movie that makes me wipe away tears every time is when Charlie tells Donald that the girl he was so in love with (Donald ) was always making fun of him behind his back no matter how nice and sweet he tried to be to win her affections ... and Donald makes this face of pure heartbreak and then smiles genuinely and just says simply... "well then thats her problem. You are what you love, Charlie. Not what loves you " just typing that statement gave me a lump ... beautiful scene terrific film

    the whole time I was waiting for Kaufman's twin to be a schizo personality, and for it to turn into a serial killer movie, as he proposed in the beginning

      I think it kinda is a split personality thing though since Charlie Kaufman doesn't have a brother in real life. Can't speak for the serial killer thing though haha

      That's actually the best joke of the movie. Donald IS a multiple personality / alter ego of Charlie. They're both played by the same actor. But Charlie says (to his alter ego Donald): "The only thing more overused than serial killers is multiple personalities!"

      @David-ck3gv Před rokem

      Yeah, I'm no film nerd but I think Deus ex machina is defined also by its placement at the end of a story. McKee is sort of a similar device but not at the end of the story.

    David O Russell is probably there because he and Spike Jonze (the director of this film) are friends. Spike Jonze was in fact in 'Three Kings'

    Casablanca is mentioned few times during the movie, and there is definetly a connection regardimg the endimg, as it becomes melodramatic and just like Boghart's character he doesn't get the woman he loves but he has hope for future and escapes his sort of cold and alienated existence.

    I watched it , and yes .. Adaptation is a good movie .. But to start off with , Nicholas Cage was a geek , and even worst .. the way he was talking at the beginning of the movue( in my opinion) was absolutely annoying .. His twin brother had more spunk a n.v d charisma than he did .. And Meryl Streep's character just some desperate skank when she went and slept with La Roche .. Wasn't she supposed to be married ???And she sounded like a whinny cry baby at the end of the movie when La Roche was half-eaten by the alligator .. I suppose that's what made the movie so good .. Very interesting ..

    • @alexman378
      @alexman378 Před rokem +1

      So you don’t have a problem with Cage, you have a problem with how he was written then, since he also plays the brother.
      And that’s kind of the point, Donald isn’t smarter than Charlie, he’s not as talented, not as experienced, and he’s even fatter. But because Charlie is so meek and Donald is not afraid to put himself out there, he’s perceived as charismatic, he gets girls, people are drawn to him, and his work is regarded as a masterpiece that Charlie could learn a thing or two from.
      So it was probably intentional, Charlie’s self pity and self imposed restrictions held him back from what he could’ve been from the beginning.

    • @sarahpeters6116
      @sarahpeters6116 Před rokem

      @@alexman378 : when you think about it , Cage can play most any character , regardless how geeky and annoying he has to become .. Let's face it , even the two girls he tried to hit on were repulsed by him .. He couldn't even turn Meryl Streep's character on .. Yet she fell for some mousey looking twerp like La Roche .. He's played better characters in other movies ..
