The real beauty of nature can be seen only a few hundred meters from the city center. We decided to combine the beauty of the city with the beauty of nature. Here is the beginning of the Norowy Dól ravine. The city is famous for its numerous loess gullies. Here you can relax from the crowds of tourists. This is the wildest gully. There is a narrow path here. Once wanted to build a road, but a big storm in the 80s completely ruined those plans.
Along the ravine we reached the Quay. And here she is - the queen of Polish rivers, the Vistula. The Vistula is one of the last major rivers in Europe that has largely retained its natural character as an unregulated lowland river. One often hears that Kazimierz Dolny is also called Kazimierz on the Vistula, and that's because the Vistula has a very special charm - it is not confined to the city, it just flows in a free stream and is pleasing to the eye. What a mighty current!
From Kazimierz you can take a riverboat cruise on the Vistula River and admire the panorama of the historical city from the river.
This pretty wooden building, the Kuncewicz House, also known as the Villa "Under the Squirrel", was built in 1936. Art exhibitions and meetings with writers, poets and scientists, concerts and theatrical performances were held there. Now there is a literary branch of the Vistula Museum in Kazimierz Dolny, dedicated to the Kuncewicz family. The garden that surrounds the villa is an undoubted decoration of the house. The location of the Kuncewicz estate away from the hustle and bustle of Kazimierz marketplace, lively during the tourist season, allows you to relax and truly relax surrounded by nature and literature. It may also be an interesting fact that the Villa Under the Squirrel has two guest rooms available for tourists. So you can actually stay here while enjoying the wonderful view.
Little Market. A pre-war neighborhood populated by Jews, who made up almost half of the city's residents. Many Jewish families became rich in the grain trade in the 16th and 17th centuries. In the Little Market wooden buildings predominated. It is also the location of the historical Kosher Slaughterhouses.
The atmosphere in this place is indescribable. As if you were in the middle ages...
Here you can also see the Mountain of Three Crosses, where crowds of people are already bustling, and the church.
The eighteenth century synagogue in its modern form was built in late Baroque limestone with a tile roof. In July 1944 the Germans partially destroyed it. It was rebuilt in 1953. Currently there is a Jewish publishers' bookshop and room rentals here.
The present synagogue is the fourth built in this place after the previously burned ones. The history of the first one, according to legend, is connected with the romance of Casimir the Great. The king commissioned it to be built for a beautiful Jewish woman named Esterka, the mother of several of his children.
Let's try some Kazimirian ice cream. Yes, all we have on the menu today are desserts. In hot weather, eating ice cream in the market square is a must. At the same time we will have a little rest after the many descents and ascents.
After a year-long lockdown in Poland, people are longing for communication and travel. And the weather is great. That's why there are so many people in the center now... Horses, people, clowns, musicians are all mixed up.
You don't see that kind of traffic jam in every city.
Combined travel and fitness, walked a little over 13 kilometers.
Kazimierz is a unique city. City with its history and its special atmosphere. Not to mention the nature, which is magnificent! This wonderful combination attracts tourists and talented people. You have to come back here for sure!
