So true. I was raised in a church where women looked older than what they were because of how they dressed. Yet it didn't stop them from stealing husbands, which in some case was the pastor!!! I lived through that era where almost everything we wore was sinful yet the ones who looked the part had no spiritual character just outward appearance. I do believe in modesty but not just modesty alone.

Because modesty isn't about just clothes....clothes are just one aspect of modesty...modesty is in your eyes, your mannerism and in your mind....all these factors would make the conditions impossible for infidelity. But that doesn't nullify the importance of dressing up

I saw a girl getting off a taxi on her way to church. She was about 15. She had a mini skirt, a tank top with her belly button out, and no underwear. How I know this? When I was walking by, right next to the door she used to exit the cab, she swiveled her legs towards the sidewalk and i caught sight of her tarantula as her feet reached the sidewalk. A more disrespectful way to dress for worship is difficult to match.

*Read your Bible and you'll see it says that God created us nude with no shame. This was because in God's ideal world, we embrace our bodies as a physical reflection of God's spirit. God is an artist and we're His art 🎨 therefore, when you embrace yourself, you embrace Him. The reason Adam and Eve immediately hated themselves after they sinned and covered themselves is because they, in sinning, turned away from God and therefore turned away from themselves since their bodies reflected God. God didn't give them clothes because He chose to and He was "covering us in His glory"; that entire context was telling us about how we fell out of His glory. Clothing only came into play when shame, brokenness, evil, and sin did meaning that it's a symbol of these things and the broken bond between God and man. Being ashamed of your image is being ashamed of God's and He didn't create us to be ashamed of His masterpiece and bury it down to where nobody can see it, He created us to display our art in a museum and be happy when someone gazes upon our beauty. That's why people like David, Esther and Isaiah all got elevated when they did this but Vashti, Micah and Isaiah's critics, who bashed them for it, got kicked to the curve. That's also why people today, who flaunt their bodies, make it big while those who bash them fade into nothing.*

@@starhunter9085 What does the Bible say about women's clothing?
      # A woman shall not be clothed with manly apparel, nor shall a man make use of feminine apparel. For whoever does these things is abominable with God.
      (Deuteronomy 22:5)
      # Similarly also, women should be dressed fittingly, adorning themselves with compunction and restraint, and not with plaited hair, nor gold, nor pearls, nor costly attire,
      (1 Timothy 2:9)
      # as they consider with fear your chaste behavior. For you, there should be no unnecessary adornment of the hair, or surrounding with gold, or the wearing of ornate clothing. Instead, you should be a hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptibility of a quiet and a meek spirit, rich in the sight of God. For in this way, in past times also, holy women adorned themselves, hoping in God, being subject to their own husbands.

*The main problem with us as humans regarding physical modesty is that we view our bodies (nudity) as being inherently sexual. This is a false premise for the following reasons...*
*Bathing, changing clothes, childbirth, breastfeeding, using the bathroom, sleeping, going to a sauna, getting a massage (at a spa), nurturing the elderly, nurturing the handicap ♿, locker rooms (for athletes).*
*All of these things require (or can involve) nudity but have nothing to do with anything sexual. Why? Because nudity isn't inherently sexual, it's only looked at like that because we make it sexual. So we can't assume that someone showing skin (not necessarily completely nude) is sexualising themselves so we can't say that you can "cause someone to lust" by not dressing "modestly".*

Women who wear a certain garb that may look like a bedsheet with a hole in it, mainly called a burka, live in cultures that have higher levels of sexual abuse than Western countries. It is highly unlikely that it is her dress sense that is causing this. Men can undress a woman whether they are wearing a burka or a bikini. The societal and cultural norms, the power discrepancies between men and women and thinking patterns may have a lot more to do with it. Let's face it men, if a woman undresses in front of you, what you do next is your responsibility and yours only. If you see a drunk woman in the streets.... Whether you go to take sexual advantage of her or make sure she gets home safely says everything about whether you are a male Predator or protector. I'm not saying women shouldn't dress in more modest ways that don't instantaneously give men an erection, but men... It's YOUR responsibility how you behave because the whole world is not going to dress in a way that is necessarily easy for you, and that includes burka wearing women who receive more sexual abuse than non burka wearing women. It's amazing how the eye becomes a sexual stimulation or the smell of perfume when the rest is left to the mind to imagine.

Modest clothes, easy hairdo and if there's some jewelry, it ought not be costing a small fortune, seems to be his answer. Which he has straight from the Bible. The Bible also teaches, that a woman ought to be recognizable as being female and a man as male. Which has become interestingly actual nowadays, where it's really hard to tell sometimes, if a person is male or female.
This means, that a woman ought to take care that her clothes don't show so much of her body, that it almost automatically arouses any man sexually. But some men are aroused way to easily and ought to practice self-control. What a Christian woman should 'wear', is kindness and helpfulness, which actually are characteristics of the Holy Spirit and they ought to be exhibited by men as well.
Bottom line: don't overly focus on your bodily appearance, but focus on how your Spirit-filled personality may shine through and bring glory to God.
Also no need to under-do it, by making yourself truly unattractive and turn off even your own husband.
By proxy this means taking care of your body. Keeping it in shape and fit. Not overly, but normally. Not stuffing your face and gain a hundred pounds to make your husband feel cheated on, since after the wedding ceremony he is 'stuck' with you. In my opinion some modest make-up totally fits too. Like an older Christian woman once said: "This old barn needs painting."

So if your mind is running off like that, focus on something else as soon as possible. If you still feel tempted, ask the Lord to help you control it, whilst turning away from the source.
It's harder more and more with 'fashion' showing way too much nowadays.

If God intended us to be clothed he would've created us with clothing.
You have been deceived by false prophets and the word of satan that has infiltrated the scriptures just as weeds infiltrate a field of wheat.
Jesus warned in his teachings that the scriptures are NOT the infallible word of God. Jesus instructed us on how to tell the word of God from the word of satan. God is not a hypocrite. God is not a flip flopper. God is all knowing and PERFECT. Being all knowing means that God does NOT ever change his mind. To change one's mind means that the original idea was wrong. God has never been wrong. But satan wants you to devalue God so you are not saved.

*Showing biceps 💪 and thighs don't cause someone to lust (most people don't even know what lust is). The fact that so many people think people who dress revealingly only do so because they want attention and not possibly because they simply like that style is the problem with religious zealots. That's why I can't stand most religious people; they're a bunch of cultist nut jobs, who get pissy over everything they personally disagree with (just like SJWs). There is no such thing as "modest" or "immodest" clothing! Clothing is just clothing and everyone has the right to wear what they want. How someone dresses has nothing to do with anyone except the individual and what they find comfortable. In the Bible, people who proudly showcase their bodies (naked or not) get elevated while those who damn them for it are cursed. And, in our society, the same thing occurs. Our bodies are symbols of God's image and Temples of the Holy Spirit. Are you ashamed of God's image? Do you believe the Temple of the Spirit causes lust? No, of course not! So why would you believe that about your body?*

I would disagree and say yes it is fair that women may have to dress more distinctly than men to be modest. That is because our society has sexualized women more than men.
I would ask those women who say that statement if it's "fair" that:
    - men are drafted into the armed forces during war and die more frequently
    - are injured or die from work related accidents more because their jobs are more dangerous than most women's careers
    - men get longer prison sentences than women for the same crime
    - men have a higher suicide rate than women
    - and the list goes on and on and on
I really think a lot of this comes down to the fact that modern American women are spoiled, entitled and lack discernment. A sign of maturity is a willingness to look at the world for what it is not for what you think it should be.

What does the Bible say about women's clothing?

God created us to be fully naked with NO SHAME and it was only when we started seeing the world through our eyes rather than through God's eyes that we started viewing our bodies as disgraceful. 99% of clothing has nothing to do with trying to be sexy, it's just the person wearing what makes them comfortable. It all depends on what fits. As a woman gets older her body changes. Also, most skirts and dresses are made for taller women. Not all pants are comfortable. As long as a woman does her best and covers her nakedness. Wears tops that cover cleavage and the butt if they can. Not to mention affordability. Men in Bible times wore robes as did women. It they wore them differently. In May countries men still wear robes and women wear long robe like clothing. Here men and women wear different styled clothes but the men no longer wear robes like in the Bible. The men wore robes to their knees it seems in the beginning of the Old Testament and were told to wear under clothing from the waist to the thigh. The important thing is to cover nakedness and try not to be revealing. Try not to be too legalistic.

Lust equal coveting. Remember: The 10th Commandment says, "you shall not covet your neighbor's wife". To covet your neighbor's wife means to want to have her as your *OWN* wife. *THAT* is lust (technically, one can covet an unmarried woman, but that is *NOT* contrary to any of God's commandments). Unfortunately, in our church, and in many other churches, I have been in, proper dress is never preached. Seems like pastors these days. Don’t want to step on anybody’s toes keeping everything at high altitude Christianity to please the masses. I’ve heard pastors over and over say that I’ll just let the Holy Spirit convict them, but where will the conviction come from, without hearing the word of God preached. Pastors are increasingly concerned that their own opinion is infiltrating biblical standards when they preach on these topics. What they don’t understand, is that the Holy Spirit that resides in all saved people, when the Bible is read, and studied, brings conviction in the hearts of men and women. So maybe it’s not the pastors personal feelings at all or personal opinion, maybe it’s actually the Holy Spirit urging them to preach on sin topics at a very deep level. What a shame I don’t believe God is very pleased with this.

It's so painful to watch this video and read the comments from it.
Right away he describes men as "sexual creatures" that are more "visual", sir, are you talking about fallen, flesh-leading and mundane men? Because I think you are NOT speaking about the men of Yahweh, whom He says are guided by Spirit and that have self control, pure of heart and obedient to His law and Word.
And then to put all the weight of dress coding on women... That's not of the Lord, as if the Lord made us to be flies on the wall, not to be the center of attention either, but man... The proper way to dress is with modesty for BOTH of us, man and woman, for Yahshua's sacrifice and salvation wasn't in vain, He gave us a clean start with His Spirit, not naked but not invisible either.
And then people quoting Bible verses about appearance without bothering to read the whole chapter, an explanation and the context of time, situation and place is baffling to me, no wonder many fall into confusion and never leave the wide path, no matter the appearance of them.

It’s like putting a review for a movie you haven’t watched... asides from the “fables” the bible is often times referred to as the “manual for life”. I highly recommend checking out the book of proverbs to see what I’m talking about! The book of “wisdom” was written by King Solomon, and then maybe hop over to the New Testament and gospels and you can truly discern for yourself as to what the people believe. But remember, giving your opinion on a movie you only half watched or didn’t watch doesn’t really give you credibility. Cheers

We as in the American public or men or who? Our bodies are not sinful or dirty but we are stilled called to dress and behave in a chaste and modest way. That would include more than just covering our private parts. Even the secular world understands this. If all you wore was a bikini you would not be allowed in schools, on airplanes, in many retail shops or restaurants. Even those have dress codes, no shirt no shoes no service or no jacket and tie then no dining etc.
I agree with you that because we have become an industrialized society we have lost our ability to see breast feeding, childbirth, caring for our own family and even in death with preparing the body at home as a natural extension of life. If you look at dresses from the 1860's you will see dresses that are off the shoulder and show the proof (breasts) of someones sex and it wasn't considered risqué. So yes overtime the body has become sexualized like never before.
But I will say this: The truth is our bodies are sexual also because God made them to have sex and it's great!
An example: In America because we have a high percentage of working women (who can't or won't breast feed) and therefore breast feeding declined in the 20th century our society began to see breasts as just a sexual part of the body. But I've had friends visit Muslim nations who found that not to be so. They know that breasts are for feeding infants BUT those societies don't like to see the shape of a women's leg because they know what lies between the legs and that's sexual.
So different societies have different ideas but I've never heard of anyone who has traveled anywhere run into trouble by dressing modestly.

      *1. I mean everyone*
*2. I never said anything about walking around everywhere naked. Wth are you talking about?*
*3. Just because society views something a certain way doesn't mean that's the objective truth. We have to live by logic not feelings and the scientific reason for a woman's breasts is breastfeeding not having sex. If we let society manipulate reality for its own personal agenda, it'll be hell on earth.*
*4. God didn't create our bodies to have sex. He created them to be vessels for our spirits here on earth. Sex is just one thing our bodies are capable of doing. That's like saying since we can eat with our bodies our bodies are made solely for eating.*
*5. There is no such thing as "modest or immodest" clothing. It's a false premise created out of ignorance and lack of understanding of what our bodies represent. Physical modesty varies all over the world throughout all nations, religions and cultures and has done so all throughout history. It's not something you can put under a microscope and study in a science lab or back with research or data or defend with faith (The Bible). It's just something based on feelings and emotions and that makes it empty.*

    • @amyk3328

      @@thewriter2634 Okay let's unpack this:
      1. I never said anything about walking around naked. I was using the bikini as a type of immodest dress and how many places both in the Western and Eastern world see it as immodest and not appropriate for many places. Even by U.S. law a bikini doesn't constitute nudity. So I'm not sure where you got that from.
      2. I agree that object truth does not come from a society (which is comprised of fallible selfish people). God and His holy word determines objective truth. And I never said that breasts were only for sex but through God's blessing he has given women breasts and we can derive sexual pleasure with them. A quick reading of Song of Solomon will help.
      3. God created our bodies in the way He did for sex and procreation. In fact in Genesis He commands mankind to be fruitful and multiply long before Pentencost and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. I never said He created our bodies "solely" for sex.
      4. To say that there is no such thing as modest or immodest clothing is to make a definitive statement. Our standard is God's word not yours. You claim there is no such thing so I ask you to support your claim.
I would say that you are incorrect. Modesty is not a false premise. Quite the contrary actually. If you would look at world's populations you would see that yes modest dress recognized by the majority of people. In fact historically speaking even more so. One only has to look at cultures across the world to see this and what a beautiful sight to see this virtue displayed in all of its array!

Being ashamed of your image is being ashamed of God's and He didn't create us to be ashamed of His masterpiece and bury it down to where nobody can see it, He created us to display our art in a museum and be happy when someone gazes upon out beauty. That's why people like David, Esther and Isaiah all got elevated when they did this but Vashti, Micah and Isaiah's critics, who bashed them for it, got kicked to the curve. That's also why people today, who flaunt their bodies, make it big while those who bash them fade into nothing.*
