The War on Terror was a multi-generational Vietnam.
Why go to the military then?
No it wasn’t. The US lost around 7k troops in Iraq and Afghanistan combined in 20 years. The soviets lost 15k when there for comparison. And 58k died in Vietnam.

Then kids younger then me by half a decade, and not even 18 months into there enlistment died as an ocean of humanity begged to be saved.

I grew up and enlisted in the shadow of the gwot to my first deployment I seen the repercussions of the gwot right in front of me
I know this is callus and brutal but I dont have any sympathy for the people who willing participated in the gwot. Yall volunteered for it.

I grew up in the same exact environment, my father was a soldier and pressured me to join but I refused because I could see the futility and lack of righteousness in the war. I'm sorry you didnt do your homework before traveling 3000 miles and f*ckin another country up for zero gain but in this case your ignorance was not bliss.
So if all you veterans could stop feeling sorry for yourselves after losing 2500 soldiers and killing 50,000 civilians and 50,000 enemy combatants that would be outstanding.

We served because the war was better than the life America would have given us otherwise. I paid the price of my “free” college the night I sat holding a 19 year old kid’s skull together as his brains ran out over my hands like tapioca pudding. I carry my experiences with me of a war the rest of the country pretends was never happening. And I will volunteer again and again, because I know what it’s like being a scared kid holding the hand of your friend as he dies. People like you won’t be there for them, and that’s ok, because there will always be people like me at their side.

Back to the topic. The wars that the United States have been involved in except for WW1,WWII, the American Civil War, Revolutionary War and maybe a few others have been wars waged for the benefit of a handful of people.
The wars in the Middle East and West Asia and North Africa are probably some of the most wicked wars in terms of reason for being waged in human history.
The people who started these wars and the people who were used as the implements for doing are some of the most evil people throughout history.
As for the common soldiers, the majority of them have no idea why they are truly there for and dont seem to realize that they are carrying out the will of Satan.
Many of them might believe they are actually there to help the native peoples, or to spread democracy, or topple tyrants and believe the people of the country they invaded are actually terrorists for fighting back and protecting their homes from foreign soldiers who have been literally invading their homes and ransaking it and burning down their villages, assaulting their mothers and fathers for resisting and hauling off people in cuffs for suspected sympathy of the enemy.
I can't even imagine what it would be like to have our leaders and presidents toppled and replaced with a foreign controlled puppet, tanks, helicopters, jets, planes and military vehicles on our streets and in our skies while our neighbor who I have known for years has his door kicked in and his son arrested and beaten for angrily responding to foreign soldiers rummaging through his family home or our resources being siphoned and any talk of rebellion violently suppressed
Because the thing is we as humans and men specifically have this instinct of protection and to be apart of something greater than ourselves which back then would be serving and protecting our tribe, which is exploited by those who say protect your country or serve your nation even though our nations are under attack from within by the very same people who will send you off to fight again a poor villager or herder or shepherd who has never even heard of your city.

I remember when I was a kid watching the news back in 05 and 06 seeing marines and troopers in firefights and then later on in the night seeing the names of the boys that would never comeback home for someone else’s gain while many lost their Sons,Brother’s and Fathers to war I remember when a kid came back from Iraq to visit his family the look in his eyes was pure pain and sadness which I didn’t know better at the time and my mother said to me he’s another broken soul due to the evils of man
I still remember the footage of the Apache helicopter shooting at a group of journalists... Killing them all, children died. I saw footage of drone operators flying over 'suspected' individuals and asking for permission to fire without cause, I saw the pictures of the infamous prison that was run Saddams police force to torture suspected traitors only to see US personnel opening the jail back open to do the same. Forget your brothers, sons or fathers, people lost their whole families and even their country to their own homes because of American greed. Spare me the pitty stories about your uncle... Mothers, daughters and babies died! 100 000s of them, millions displaced and becoming 3rd ranking citizens in other countries as refugees to be exploited and to be thrown in a bad light as 'dirty' 'uneducated'....

I've had uncles who served the Gulf and American-Iraq war and knowing their time there and seeing the footage really showed me what he did, this song helps with it
Edit: One of my uncles who served in Iraqi Freedom was mentally hurt when we lost in Afghanistan, in a call he said "We lost so many young men their who wanted to protect his family so evil men couldn't do evil things to home" really good combat footage by the way.

The most song that gives me the most heart stopping nostalgia is the man who sold the world it was the first nirvana song I’ve ever heard it feels physically painful to listen to it it gives me sharp pain in my chest and my heart beats feels so slow and painful with each beep and vintage old video footage of the Iraq war and especially the first and second fallujah battle gives me the exact same feeling so combined together this edit feels so nostalgic It makes me feel the pain all those poor souls had in the war sorta
