  • Perch Masters, the first in a series of videos where we follow guest anglers Perch Fishing with lures. Our first guest, Sam Delasalle, has an incredible track records for landing big perch each year. We visit him on the river, asking loads of questions - we want to know everything! We look at tactics, techniques, tackle and, of course, lures.
A fantastic angler with a no nonsense approach to his fishing. We have a few laughs and bag some big perch. Not to be missed. I really hope that we can all learn something from these videos, to improve our lure fishing and help us put a few more Perch on the bank!
Please don't forget to like and subscribe :) Thanks!

What an insight from a guy with bags of credibility... not often you get the opportunity to see the river through the lens of the angler about rhe conditions, month by month, the zones the fish are in, the subtlety of the silt cloud (WTAF)!!!!.. what an insight - top work Nick

I agree with the spending more time on the bank for short sessions... I spent 4 hours without a pluck yesterday then once the sun started lowering I was getting plucks all the time and caught a small 4lb pike. I should've just went at 4.30pm instead of 12pm! My last hour was much much more active.

Great stuff Nick. Here in the US we have a swing head, wobble head or Biffle Head jig. Most hve the hook molded in the head. some companies sell the heads and you add your own hooks with two split rings. The rings help keeping the fish to use the weight as levarege to throw the hook. The rings also give the bait more movement. I like the Cheb rig that you can change out both hook and weights. Wonder how the Cheb rig would work with adding two split rings to connect the hook to it?

I don't know how the perch behave in England. But here in the States, when fishing in colder season, like November and December, I usually drop a 2" tube lure under a bobber and yank it hard to impart some action on the tube and wait for the hit. If the fish is around, I get a fish per cast. Not too fussy of fish.

Hi buddy sorry for the late reply.
I use a #1/0 generally or a #2/0 it really depends how much you want the hook to be exposed.
But the main thing really is dependent on manufacturer as we know they have different lengths & bends.
If you look at fox they are quite aggressive on the gape per length of hook.
Best thing to do is get a couple of sizes for your favourite hook and see what suits your fishing the best.
Happy new year and tight lines

I use June bug mate yes.ive started the season off very well using the black & blue mate.trds ATM as I'm not getting aggressive enough takes for the bigger crays.its very subtle right now with the weather changes

I notice he's using flurocarbon to a snap swivel... how come they don't seem to speak on the end tackle on these videos? Unless I'm missing it.

They do talk end tackle. Not mentioned the snap swivel. Probably because it’s there for your convenience. It won’t contribute to catching more fish imo. 👍
