      Oh- and there are no " children " in toxic dysfunctional families. They're not a family- they're a military unit. Even if Dean were gay and was perfectly comfortable with it like those two Hunters he wouldn't know what to do with Castiel's love. Jumping on the white horse to save " the damsel/the gentleman in distress " du jour is what we're good for. It's ALL we're good for. It's our comfort zone. Sam is lucky Dean didn't hate him for at least getting that hug from their father.

    Dean's hero worship of his Dad was borderline Stockholm Syndrome. It was so annoying when Dean blamed Sam for going to Stanford, how dare a 18 year old want to go college. He told Sam that he should have been the one to make contact, after John told him to leave and never come back. John meant well and thought he was doing the right thing, but he was wrong. I'm glad Bobby made Dean see how John was in the wrong. That he should have been the one reach out to Sam.

      I feel Dean. Dean blamed Sam cause they werent able to understand each other. Dean had spent all his life on raising Sam. when he was 22 he didn’t have anything except Sam or his abusive dad. And Sam had his right to leave, but it was painful for Dean to feel even more lonely after all and thats why he was upset. Dean couldn’t even go to college like Sam cause he had bad marks and wasnt able to study. he could only hunt. So the only sense of his life, Sam, was gone. Dean had nothing, and Sam had this university life for a couple of years, ofc Dean was jealous or hurt, what is more likely. Im not blaming any of them cuz i love both Dean and Sam. It is the result of John’s attitude that Dean felt only like a consumable, and it is his fault, not his sons’. They deserved sm better

      It’s hard to even blame Dean. This man neglected and carted them off random places to kill monsters. Dean was a young child, charged with taking care of a baby and keeping this secret. John Winchester normalized abusive behavior and Dean was brainwashed. It also didn’t help that this probably began immediately after Mary died.

I don't believe for a minute Sam didn't want Dean to leave as well. I can't imagine have heartbroken Sam was when Dean didn't support him and how heartbroken Dean was when Sam wanted to leave. Dean had never considered that he could have more in his life. The sad part is John was right in one way, they couldn't have a life the supernatural came for them but John still wrong, if he had not been such a jerk and instead of expecting blind obedience he had explained that he was proud, explained that he was trying to protect the boys they would not be so broken. He pretended that everything he did was for them and a lot of it was but John was a man crippled by grief and rage, he let it control him. For all his claims about Sam being emotional it was him that could not control his emotions. I think Mary gets off way to easy. She started all this by making a deal, what did she think was going to happen? She may not have known exactly what was going to happen but she invited a demon into her home, she had to know he wasn't going to just have tea and leave. The night the deal came do, she was sleeping not watching her children. She could have warned and prepared John at least somewhat, instead he was blindsided.

    I think people are really hard on John Winchester. He wasn’t a perfect dad, but he did his best given the circumstances. A parents job, ultimately, is to ensure their children can survive in the world. John was raising his children in a world of monsters. Also, you have to consider why he made the choices he did. John Winchester only started hunting to avenge his wife and protect his son who had been marked by a demon. He couldn’t just sit at home and expect everything to be ok. Yes, he left them alone a lot. And had Dean take care of Sam. But, fundamentally speaking, that is how Gen Xers were raised. Also keep in mind that Azazel was sending demons to groom his ‘special children,’ It made sense for John to keep the boys moving in order to protect them. Look at how John instructs Dean to protect Sam in the episode ‘something wicked.’. It’s as though he knows there’s something after them. Or more specifically after Sam. And it made sense for him to hunt to build a rapport with other hunters, to learn information about the demon who did this to their family, and to build up his skills to kill the bastard when he finally found him

      But Dean grew up with no love at all. It’s why he doesn’t care about his life as an adult. Dean really doesn’t think he deserves better, a family, someone to love him. Because he doesn’t think he’s worth anything. He can’t stand the idea of being alone which is why he went back for Sam. Even with everything he does, talking care of Sam, Fighting monsters and saving people. He believes he’s not worth fighting for. He believes his life is not as important as the people around him. John did that to him. John destroyed Dean before he was 18 years old. That’s not right.

      @Brightfire19 Před 9 měsíci +4

      @@1tim3_JB Dean and Sam growing up with no love and John putting revenge above everything is just false. That's an idea that the fandom pushed that's easily disproven if you bother to look past the surface level fandom version of the character. Especially John's journal throws a lot of light onto this, though it's in the show too. Even in this clipshow! Like when John tells them that he's keeping them out of the hunt to keep them safe, and Dean tells him that's bullcrap and has to convince John to join them. If John were putting revenge above his children, he would've let them join in on the hunt since the beginning. If he were some abusive ass who just wants to control his children, he wouldn't have reacted the way he did to Dean pretty openly disrespecting his orders. A lot of this is expanded on in John Winchester's Journal by Alex Irvine.
      Basically, his wife was killed by something supernatural and he doesn't know whether it's going to come after his children too. He starts hunting not just because he wants to avenge Mary, but because he thinks killing the thing that killed his wife might allow him to return to a normal life. He is hunting to avenge Mary, but he's also hunting because he thinks that will keep his boys safe. He is raising them to be hunters and teaching them what he knows not because he wants to control them or he's obsessed with revenge (because as said, he's explicitly keeping them out of the hunt for Yellow Eyes) but because he wants them to be able to protect themselves from what's out there.
      He does love his children, too and he is genuinely trying to give them the most normal life he can. He knows that there is something after Sam from a young age (Sam gets almost kidnapped several times). So he tries to hunt that down in order to protect Sam. But throughout the entire journal, he keeps on affirming his love for his boys. He tries to put them into school, tries to let them stay in places for as long as possible or leaves them with people like Bobby or Ellen. There are occasions where he tries to actually settle down and get a job and you know what happens? Sam gets kidnapped by a monster and they have to go on a run. In John's eyes, there is just danger everywhere and he is doing this to keep them safe.
      Throughout the journal, there are days that he notes down in his journal every year. His wedding anniversary, Mary's death date, and Sam and Dean's birthdays. He started out using January 1st as a renewal for his vow to avenge Mary, but that actually stops several years into the novel, which is pretty contradictory to him being obsessed with revenge. He constantly affirms his love for his boys, vows to protect Sam from any hunters or beings who might hurt him, he takes Dean out for his birthday, he buys Sam a computer, etc. There is love there if you bother looking for it!
      Is John Winchester a perfect or even good father? No! Absolutely not. But he is in no way like you described. He is not some evil abusive monster that didn't care for his kids and that's why he started hunting. He started hunting BECAUSE he cared for his kids, because he just lost his wife and thought by killing what killed her he might get some normalcy back. The whole "he wanted to avenge Mary and didn't care for his kids" is a fandom invention. It does not excuse any of his shitty behavior or the effects it had on Dean and Sam, of course! It just doesn't come from a place of malice or want for revenge or an overinflated ego. He's a dad who had to deal with a horrible situation and genuinely tried to do what he thought was best for his kids, even if that might not have been the best in the end.

    If people hate John this much they seriously don’t know how hard it can really get for children. They act like this character from a tv show is the end all, be all.

    He is the worst. There was this a maxing fanfic about John going religious fanatic from ldd mkultrsbin Vietnam where he comes across pulp fiction books featuring a women that reminds him of Mary who did modeling a few years back. There was one about a Catholic high school with same namevshevwrnt to where sins are incouraged to indulge because it's the ultimate disrespectful to not sin Jesus died to give us the ability not n ok t give in to temptation but our natural instincts. As repression LEDs to depression and Confession errases tension. It puts the holy f in Catholic school. Dana Scully attended also?
    And a book called màry ur a ho. A new deal . While working the crossroads marry get picked up by a man hellskinh crumple hellskinh that the next child will belong to him but Sam has a vanishing twin sister who dies but tries to possess him. And it's a cult and johnnthinks he sea a monstera

      Yes. Liberals. Not the new producers of the show, who clearly didn't understand what made the first 5 seasons good.

      In the span of 15 years (2005-2020) of this series, you can see how Hollywood pov changed. From season 1-5 you can tell Hollywood somehow still 'on the side' of God and fighting demons trope. From season 6-15, somehow Hollywood start from lowkey 'humanize' and softening any demons character, to openly glorified satanism and mocking anything related to God.

      Emotional abuse should not be considered lightly. It’s just as bad as physical abuse and just as painful to grow up with. People that say this shit clearly have never grown up with a toxic family
