    Wow...not a single word of appreciation or positive statements towards the car. Not mentioning built quality and premium material used.. no words about double gazed glass installed and noise cancallation featute for driving environment.. not mentioning about the practically or space that the cabin provided..wow just 1 way traffic for a car review. 😂

    I took delivery of an X-Trail Ti-L e-Power back in August. I was looking for an electrified mid size suv and something not made in China. That scratched most EVs off the list and the Korean twins were out of my price range. I was also looking for specific features like memory seats and adaptive high beams. The Mitsu PHEV fit but was too expensive.
    Enter the X-Trail Ti-L e-Power. It had all the features i was after and just within my budget. I would say that in this trim level, it is very luxurious inside, like on par with Lexus or BMW. It has excellent sound insulation to keep things quiet inside, and the e-motors just add to the experience. It's a bonus that the car is hot hatch quick (check the carwow review). Ride is good enough for my family. Jack of all trades, master of none. I'm very happy with the purchase, much better than a RAV4 or even the new CR-V.

      This reviewer just hates Nissan. The Xtrail is a great car. Smooth, brisk and "efficient"
      He bangs on about the Rav, an ordinary car. Noisy and intrusive motor and a rubber band CV transmission. Not to mention a infotainment system from the 80's.
      Xtrail kills the Rav.

    I drove one of these the other day and was very impressed with it. Never having driven an EV before I was expecting it to be a learning process but it felt natural straight away and I loved the braking off throttle. It was super quiet, punchy and had good steering and suspension.
    My current cars are a 370Z and an i20N so to stack up well against those was unexpected.
    The engine usually runs about 2,200rpm in normal driving and you can't hear it. When you give it some stick it goes to 4,400rpm and you can hear it but it certainly doesn't sound like a lawnmower engine, it's very simliar to the GR Yaris engine but lower revving with less boost. I thought hearing it while accelerating hard was a plus because you get the best of both worlds.
    To be honest I thought you were very biased and this novel drive train is class leading and a revelation.

    • @darbroulette
      @darbroulette Před 5 měsíci +3

      I agree. Definitely not a lawn mower starting.. come on... Numerous times under acceleration, I didn't hear the motor kick on at all. The road noise is on par with most new cars, still super quiet.
      Very nice drive and good visibility which I find alot of cars seem to lack.

  • @ALFAGOMMA
    @ALFAGOMMA Před 8 měsíci +21

    I don't believe the current generation RAV4 hybrid is the class leader any more. It may have been when it was first released but others have caught up and gone past it. I test drove an X-Trail Ti-L e-Power in March 2023 and was blown away by its very low NVH levels, acceleration and creature comforts. Like most reviewers have stated, the engine is barely perceptible when it kicks in. To compare it to a lawnmower engine is ridiculous. Suggesting a Mitsubishi Outlander might be a better choice is very puzzling when the hybrid version is $13,000 more expensive. I've probably read over 40 reviews of the X-Trail e-Power from Australia, Canada, USA, Europe and Britain and the overwhelming view is that it is a very good car.

    • @vrs76r
      @vrs76r Před 8 měsíci +7

      In all fairness, there is a rough-ish generator sound but it’s only for about a minute and only after a cold start. Ive got the Ti-L e power and it does it each morning but with windows closed , I can barely hear it and once it stops, the remainder of the drive is nothing but pure serenity with the way Nissan have insulated the cabin from outside noise.
      Im getting 6.5l/100 real world ( dash says 6.0) over first 4000km and thats 95% city suburban driving with hills. On flats roads, I’m seeing high 4’s and low 5’s very regularly
      For perspective, my 2015 Mazda 3 2.5l would drink 9.5l/100km each tank on same routes so the X-Trail economy is massive improvement for me.
      For almost 2 tonnes of car that does 0-100 in 7 seconds, with an EV like drive and interior that rivals some more pricier EUR brands, I’m more than happy with my purchase.
      FTR I ordered a RAV4 hybrid but waited so long that I got the X-Trail and will flip the RAV4 once it arrive shortly after a almost 2 year wait. To me the RAV4 only wins on economy and service costs but they are a non factor as if everyone decided based on those factors, no on would own nice cars and Toyota hybrids would be the only cars on the road.

    I’ve had my Xtrail Ti for about 6 months now. I like the ePower system, driving like an EV that doesn’t need to plug in. Plenty of performance for a family SUV. Nice ride quality. Fuel consumption is about half my old Subaru Forrester. No regrets at all for choosing the Xtrail.

    I have been an owner for the X-trail Epower since October and I was quite inpressed with the vehicle (as well as Nissan), as a pervious owner of a Landover Discovery Sport SE, I found the X-trail has better seats (very comfortable); Slightly narrow cabin but still comfortable; A slightly Lower Power but very Torquey (Torque wins on street as I believe); Very practical make sense interior and control (don't like the left steering wheel control but I can turn off on the Active-system if I wanted). The most impressive is their E-4Force 4WD system as it makes the car concern pretty well for the SUV. I have been running my x-trail on some occasions can outrun most Petrol cars. And in rain I think it handles a lot better than the Teslas (Model 3, Models). I guess the bottom line is how you will like to use your car and it has ticked all the checkmark when I was shoppting (7 seater, simple design, can be abused with less worry, no worry about range anxiety when I can top up in 5min?). Just my 2cents. :)

    I received delivery of a top spec X-Trail in September, previously I bought new Mercs GLC and GLE diesel SUV`s. Luxury, build quality, comfort and tech are on par, acceleration and drivability is not noticeably much different (I don`t tend to push the car hard) however, more importantly value for money is far superior as I feel you get a lot of car for a fraction of the cost. The only other vehicle that came close was the Mazda CX 60 but the price of the Nissan pipped it for me.

    Not really agreeing with Matt here as I own one TI-L model since last March and done around 14k on it. It is a fantastic car to drive around town with silky smooth feel. I do hear the engine noise when it’s cold. Once the engine warmed up you never hear it. I am sure it will be similar to RAV4 in fuel efficiency if it is similar weight. I can get 5.8L/100kms around town. If you drive harder you may not get that.
    I also have a Toyota Corolla hybrid ZR hybrid which I love and very fuel efficient.
    No comparison between them as Xtrail is a large SUV great on family trips.

    Test drove the top spec e power back to back with the just released (in New Zealand) Kia Sportage hybrid. Admittedly the Kia was 2WD so a major consideration is if you want or need $WD but in terms of ride quality and handling you can really notice the Nissan's extra 200 kg's. Body control in corners, bumpy roads and speed bumps was noticeably better on the Kia and only average in the e power. The other thing is the e power, when you factor in it needs 95 Octane fuel, uses 35% more fuel than the Kia. On the other hand the top spec e power has a lot of equipment and the 525 nm's of torque from a standstill is fun. You pays your money and makes your choice...I'm probably headed down the Kia Sportage hybrid route. Just found it a much nicer drive.

    I’ve had an ST-L for near on a month and about 700km, so early days.
    When I test drove the X-Trail it was a Ti and immediately fell in love with the car and ordered my one.
    Now I don’t know if it is because I have a lower grade and they have less sound deadening material, but I’m not happy with the noise when the motor kicks in (it is thrashy) especially when cold, but that I can live with, but also occasionally when driving at operating temperature, which I don’t want to live with. That is my biggest bugbear, this could have been a perfect car if they could have subdued that noise.
    The ride is okay, though it doesn’t like some types of speed bumps. The brakes could also be a little better, but not a deal breaker.
    The economy isn’t too bad because I think it is also heavier than the RAV4, I’m at a little under 6l/100km which I think is mid 6’s if calculated using the bowser measurement.
    In the end I doubt I would buy this again, mainly because of the thrashy motor, everything else I’d be okay with. So if they could quieten down that motor from inside the cabin, then I’d consider it again.

I can just barely hear the engine if/when it does kick in - sometimes I'm not sure and have to look at the instrument panel to confirm. Nissan have done an amazing job with sound deadening, acoustic glass and noise cancelling in the cabin. It would be disappointing if the ST-L did not have these features.

    Bought this car after comparing it to the Honda CRV hybrid which has poor interior quality and is boring to drive. The Xtrail is so much more fun to drive; it's really zippy due to the EV drive experience and the mrs loves how responsive and nimble it is to drive for a large car. The RAV 4 hybrid is unavailable and Outlander is another 10K and is PHEV tech so it's in a different category altogether. The Xrail sweet spot, the interior is high quality, the tech is great, it's available now and it also has 4wd. Its 300kgs heavier than the competition so the fuel efficiency is relative it's weight which reviewers never bother to consider.

      Good question. There’s an argument that “value” is different to “affordability”, and I subscribe to that mindset.
      Affordable models are those you mentioned, the Chinese models. Value still seems better in Japanese cars, generally.
      I wouldn’t have a Tank hybrid. Tiggo? It’s decent, but if I had to choose a hybrid SUV it’s a RAV4 or Corolla Cross, and if budget and timeliness of arrival are the biggest factors, a GWM Haval H6 hybrid would be the other choice.

    This review is confusing. So my brother has had the RAV4 Hybrid for a little under a year and I have driven it a few times. He told me he wouldn't get it again and if he was in the market right now he would be looking at the X-Trail Ti e-Power. So fast forward I was in the market for a new mid sized hybrid SUV. I test drove them all. By far the Outlander plug in had the worst ride quality without a doubt, no questions. Anyone who claims otherwise either hasn't test drove all the cars or just doesn't understand dynamics. I was left with the RAV4 and X-Trail in the end. To me the RAV looks boring and the interior looks like poo and the fit and fitment quality and materials used just isn't there. I had no problems waiting for a RAV4 if needed but it is just sh1t. My partner and I just couldn't understand reviewers who like the RAV and why some many like sheep are lining up to by such a sub-par car (Oh and I'll get to fuel economy).
    So on fuel economy. As many test have shown the Toyota's claims are way off and the car burns more fuel that stated. My brother also warned me that on a long trip which most reviewers don't do his RAV4 really guzzles the fuels. Then if you go to a plug in like the Outlander which at best on a unicorn day you might get 70ks and then you are out of battery power the Outlander will obliterate any fuel economy on an open road in the country where you are desperate to find a plug in station that actually works whilst you wait hours and hours and hours to charge the car only to get another 70k's of range again. The outlander is a FAIL!
    Yes I did purchase the X-Trial e-Power. The brakes are not wooden, if you think that you have to be kidding yourself or maybe Nissan hasn't paid enough marketing money for youtubers to rate the car higher than an ugly RAV4. Who knows. The ride on the Nissan is better than the Outlander and build quality is superior to the Toyota.
    But don'[t believe me. If you are truly in the market for these cars. Do NOT be a sheep. I seriously advise you to test drive them all and then make the decision objectively. I would be surprised if you went with the RAV4 until you are just a Toyota sycophant sheep like these youtubers.

    Just a few things you also have to remember: the X-Trail has a multi-link coli / strut IRS set up whereas the Rav4 has double wish bone IRS, also rims and tyre size, things like that do play a part in feel to the driver and passengers, again the ride and steering in the X-Trail are fine erring on understeering (safety) but you can find a good balance as the driver, about the only thing that irks me about the X-trail are the weak feeling brakes, don't get me wrong they are fine and work well enough but feel is simply not there, lol my old AU Falcon E:Gas has better feeling brake pedal compared to the X-Trail.

    I looked at the X-Trail e-Power before buying my Tesla. It simply didn’t meet the standards I wanted. I decided not to waste my money on a not very good pretend EV, and the tiny battery in the thing means the rattly noisy petrol motor will have to work with far too much frequency. It somehow seems stupid to me to use a petrol engine to charge a battery to provide power to electric motors, but Nissan clearly disagrees with my view. You’ve provided your usual fair and balanced review of the e-Power. Now I drive an EV that has excellent range and fast charging I don’t have much regard for ‘hybrids’, although I agree if you want one, and can wait a long, long time for delivery, the Rav 4 makes the best case if you want a hybrid that’s capable. BEV’s are increasingly capable and the fact I live regionally and manage perfectly well with my Tesla LR shows range isn’t an issue any more. Driving enjoyment is a critical factor in my choice of cars and always has been. The very ordinary driving dynamics of the X-Trail E-Power made me strike it off my list very quickly! Sure it can't go 1000km without recharging, but how often do people need to do this? I've taken the MY on a few long road trips and it's really not a major issue having to recharge every 300km or so for 20 mins. You have to stop for a toilet break, food, and to just generally relax anyway. I think this X-Trail is a "pretend" EV, no idea why you would want to go with one. I had a Nissan xtrail ...7-8 yrs back.... beautiful little thing with a huge sunroof..euro styling.. PERFECT...
    This thing looks like very Oldsmobile type...
    That MUV was radical.
    People always asked me about the car...this thing looks sad ... Like A Winters boobs...
