honest and accurate, as always! it means so much to me to see your journey from someone who likely viewed hip hop music as largely negative and monolithic, to someone learning all the nuances and full spectrum of expression. people who say “i don’t like hip hop” are akin to people who say “i don’t like books”, as if there’s only one story being told or one way to tell it. even within specific sub-genres, like 90s west coast gangsta rap, you are learning to see a continuum within it, and can find things to appreciate about songs you don’t like. i look forward to every one of your videos.
I can't tell you how much I appreciate your comment. I turned 30 in 1986, and I enjoyed hip hop then and a for few more years until gangsta rap blew up. So your analogy is correct - I used to like books until I read a book that turned me off, so I didn't read books anymore. And I own up to the fact that I was lazy and didn't try some other books. I have reacted to so many songs that I would have enjoyed back then if I hadn't written hip hop because of one genre.

This is definitely in my top 20 favorite Hip Hop records of all time. It's definitely too heavy to process thoroughly after one listen. On Kanye's first album there's a song where he tries picking up a woman by telling her he's friends with Kweli...kinda funny to think there was a time when Talib was more popular than Kanye. :) Blackstar was pretty much the height of the independent counter-movement to the materialistic Bad Boy records that a lot of people were getting tired of. Thanks, Jamie!
dope video! react to millenium by outkast or guillotine (swordz) by raekwon! love from brazil
Hi Brazil! Greeting from California. The Raekwon song is already already on my list; but the Outkast song isn't, so I'll add it. Thanks for tuning in!
Thieves in the night is equally as good.
Thanks, Daniel! That song was requested after my video dropped. Someone has good taste like you. 😀
Dropped for Mos Def? Talib? Common?
I really like Talib's rapping voice, it mkes every song a little better
His was my favorite verse.
Boomer i was wondering if u would react to Tupacs last live performence at the House of Blues in 96 , u Will see his rawnisss in his poétic thugish way. And also i would hope if u Saw his movie ,All eyes on Me.😉
Yes, I did see All Eyez on Me. It was really good. That actor looked so much like Pac. You'd like me to react to the whole concert?
@@ABoomerReacts yes, or just parts of it, it would be amazing.😃
Thank you for your reaction videos. Please check out Cypress Hill. I'm sure you'll like their work.
I've been meaning to react to them. I have a few of their songs on my list. What's a popular song by them that you'd suggest?
@@ABoomerReacts I love their old albums. Specially, Black Sunday and Temples of Boom. "Illusions" is one of my favourite tracks. Love your channel and I genuinely wish all the best. Whenever you got time, check out a channel on YT called MercifulServant. Take care and stay safe.
@@13th.Assassin Thank you for your recommendation and your encouragement! Illusions is now on my request list; and I'll check out that channel.
@@ABoomerReacts You're welcome. All the best.
Question about your intro (Which I love). What made you choose that rap song and why the skip in the song with abrupt stop?
It's royalty-free. I decided the music didn't play long enough so I kinda stitched it together.
@@ABoomerReacts There is charm in the offbeat stitch. I hum along to it.
@@MelquanKatz Oh, good. I thought you were going to say "Fix it!"
On Kanye's first album there's a song where he tries picking up a woman by telling her he's friends with Kweli...kinda funny to think there was a time when Talib was more popular than Kanye. :)
Blackstar was pretty much the height of the independent counter-movement to the materialistic Bad Boy records that a lot of people were getting tired of. Unfortunately both Mos and Kweli never really managed to build on that early success (for different reasons) but there's a lot of good material from those Reflection Eternal or Mos Def solo days.
Someone just a few minutes ago requested For Women.
@@ABoomerReacts Yeah, good track. For Reflection Eternal I'd recommend The Blast, Too Late, 2000 Seasons or for a solo Kweli track the Kanye-produced Get By which was probably his biggest hit.
@@uamini Thanks, Fabian. Get By is on my list; and I'll add those Reflection Eternal songs.
Hi I just stumbled upon your channel I like what you're doing I would really appreciate it you listened to j Cole song "Javari" so I can hear your thoughts 😉
Thanks, Gary! I'm glad you found me. I will def put Javari on my request list
React to Reflection Eternal - Four Women
Is Talib association with Hi Tek and brought another classic album. This is one of the most guttery songs of the album.
Thanks, JZA! Four Women was requested the day this reaction posted.
@@ABoomerReacts one of the most emotional songs out there. Really a master piece in story telling. And only one CZcamsr has react to it.
@@Jzarecta I better get while the getting is good
Reaction videos are what you make of it. If you want to break down the lyrics and go deeper into it, I'm sure people will like it.
Thanks. Food for thought.
If you want to see mos def act check out the movie something the lord made. He plays dr Vivien Thomas
Thanks for the heads-up, Daniel!
